Mary Schmidt Amons

Mary talks about the drama on the Potomac, her "cringe-worthy vino-aided moments," and more.

on Aug 5, 20100

I am dashing this off (please excuse errors and jumbled content!) on the way out the door, heading into the homestretch of a whirlwind Real Housewives of DC promotional tour that has taken us from DC to LA to NYC, a tour which wasn’t short of on-camera or off-camera drama! I am exhausted from hearing the sound of my own voice, answering many of the same questions in every interview, and trying not to sound completely self-absorbed. But I was also thrilled to be a part of the whole process, so to summarize:

I believe The Real Housewives of DC will be a fun show to watch. Some great ladies with some interesting back-stories are involved and there is no shortage of "Drama on the Potomac." The first episode really does set the stage well for the beginning of all the storylines. It was the first time I had seen any footage of myself and the 'wives and since we started filming over a year ago. Watching yourself onscreen is a humbling experience, one I would describe as "awkward" at best, with occasional cringe-worthy vino aided (my excuse and I am sticking to it!) moments at my birthday party coupled with some "LOL" segments as well. I am both anxious and excited to see what rolls out going forward.

I have no idea what happened with the Salahis and the White House, but I can’t wait to watch the show, and I hope we’ll find out (along with Whoopi and everyone else in America) what actually happened and what lead the Salahis to believe they were invited!

I'll be watching what happens along with everyone else!

Let's hear it for the Vino!!! With such a privileged back ground, you seem pretty grounded. Just don't let the fame of the Housewifes destroy that or your family. NOT WORTH IT! You have a nice relationship with your kids, who seem pretty regular too! Enjoy the ride, and dont take it sooo seriously! Remember, this too shall pass, but your REAL life won't!

Mary, you are Beautiful! I think you are the most down to earth, the most sophisticated and the most real on the show. I wish I were your neighbor and friend. You and your family are wonderful and real. Keep it that way... Don't fall into all the mess of the "Real Housewives” stuff.

Is Mary renting a DC home for the show? There aren't the usual personal items in the home - such as family photos, pictures on the walls, "stuff."

You and your husband are a beautiful couple, but girl you look amazing. I think you should model for Ralph Lauren. You have amazing style to match your great personality that comes across the tellie. You should try to help your "new" friend Cat adjust to life in the US of A.

Mary, Finally a housewife with great taste!!! Can we get a tour of your house? It looks beautiful. You and your family are adorable!!! Stay sweet, kind, and humble because that is interesting TV, too. I can't take another over-the-top bitch. It's nice to see a woman who is family-oriented, stylish, and kind because I am so sick of the stereotyped "catty, bitchy woman" who has nothing better to do with her day than to be mean to other women. Thanks for representing.

You are very pretty! You and your daughter look like twin sisters. You're a great mom from what I see. You seem to take turns playing sides with the other women - don't do that.

Mary, You are my favorite housewife! Anybody who has a bad word to say about you can only be one thing and that would be jealous. Beautiful kids... sweetie pie husband... etc etc.... I'm glad there is finally a housewife I love to watch now that Dina had to leave the franchise.

mary you certainly do not look old enough to have a 23 year old! you are great!! what is your secret...you look so young and seem so wonderful with your family...best of luck to you and i hope my opinion of you continues throughout the season!!!

Thank you for depicting Washingtonians so well (so far anyway). I'm from the DC area (born at Georgetown University Hospital) and you remind me of people I have known (and liked) all my life. You don't profess to be perfect, but you are a loving mom and wife who seems pretty down to earth and perfectly comfortable with just about everyone from every kind of background imaginable (I love that you speak to Rosa in mostly Spanish). At the same time, though, you know how to raise your eyebrow when people are acting out of line or are pretending to be something they are not.

I know isn't she beautiful? I don't think I have ever seen a woman of her age that looks so youthful and fresh faced. And she's had 5 children.Mary, looks like a covergirl. She can easily be a model. A super model at that. What an inspiration to all women. Mary is a rarity. Most women her age are fighting the aging process. It's very rare where a Woman can have five children and in her young forties and look more like one of her oldest daughters sisters. It's not like her daughter looks older for her age either(had to clarify). Not just her looks, she has a nice family and seems to be well liked amongst the women. She's friendly.

I am biased by geography and the fact I have seen your family "grow up" in Mclean all these years but you are by far my favorite Housewife on the show. Great to see you deal with all the issues real mom's deal with as we struggle to get through the day without losing too many brain cells in the process! And with 5 of all ages, that is a feat in and of itself and you have earned a glass( or two!) of vino but especially on your birthday! Have seen you at all the usual Mclean 'HotSpots" that are all so "glamourous" like Mclean Little League Park, Spring HIll Rec Soccer fields and various elementary school gyms and of course the Safeway aisles! You are always being supportive of your kids without the craziness often displayed in our overeducated and stressed out lil town of double income hard chargers! Look forward to seeing more of you and your gorgeous family and always enjoy seeing your husband hilariously coaching kids or kidding around at the Starbucks with everyone, hope your having fun!

Really like you, you seem to be the most real, you and Stacy. Cat is hard to watch..stay away. You have such a fun and positive vibe, whereas she is so negative filled with hate and skepticism, watch you she seems like the very jealous type of anyone else's happiness. You seem to have a wonderful, intact, loving and happy family...love to wach it!

You come across as a class act, in fact probably the most poised, beautiful housewife to be cast on the series.

mary, you are by far the best on the show! you do look like a sister to your girls! the lock on your closet is histerical! i agreed with the person who posted about the furminator brush, we have a black lab who sheds tumbleweeds if not brushed... it does work great and they make a shampoo the smells awesome too! you are so real and relatable, don't let the show change you, you are perfect just the way you are! looking forward to more. best wishes to you and your beautiful family.

all of the lady's are snob's,and if i had to choose it would be Mary, but she stil is a little miss goodie to shoe's.the other house wives are more down to earth, and earned what they have, not born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

Mary, I think you are quite beautiful and enjoy watching you and your family. Just want you to know that your daughters' dog is not a bernese mountain dog. Having two of my own, I can tell you that this is a mix, maybe part berner but definitely not a purebred. They too shed like crazy but are the best dogs in the world. They visit hospitals and nursing homes to cheer up the patients and cheer up the staff as well. Good luck with the show and the dog!

Mary, I'm sure you hear this all the time. When I first saw you on the show, I hadnt watched the beginning opener. I thought you were your husbands daughter. I am blown away. When you were shopping with your oldest daughter, I thought she was your sister.Omg your a Mother of 5? You have a very soft sweet baby face. Good for you.Good luck on the show. I'm a huge fan of some of the housewife shows. Not all of them . Just some of them.

Watched the episode with your daughter's dog and all the shedding. I would highly recommend the "Furminator" brush for the dog which significantly reduces shedding. I don't work for this co. and have no interest in promoting them. I'm merely passing along this great dog/cat tool, because we recently bought it for our two dogs. We have short hair dogs with an undercoat, and the Furminator is really amazing. It removed so much hair and has reduced their shedding by 85-90%. Also, Bonnie Hunt recently discussed the Furminator on her show and how great it is. It really is a wonderful brush, and should help with the dog's shedding all over your house. P.S. You can get the Furminator Online cheaper than in the local pet stores.

Mary, you stated your daughter's dog was a bernese mountain dog. Tradionally they are a tri-colored dog of black, rust, and white. Is this dog mixed with something else?

Love the show agree with several posts of several viewers you are the favorite of the show but if Rosa is such an asset buy her a poop scoop so she doesn't have to pick that crap up by hand.

In response to the comments about Mary living in McLean VA... It's all the same thing. I would go so far as to say the McLean is more DC than DC is. You have to live here to understand. Don't get hung up on the very, very, very minor details.

Every time I watch this show, I say out loud, what has this woman done all her life to look the same age as her daughter? If (and I am certainly not implying) that is any type of plastic surgery (on her face), it is the most amazing job I have ever seen!! SO beautiful, I want the secret on how to look 20, when I am over 40 (not sure how old Mary is)?? Mary, I am not a TV show junkie and I never go to websites about other people, but I have to know how you look sooo young?? I say it out load to my fiance every time I see your face. Is it a proper diet your whole life, creams, what the heck? I am in my early 30's and buy the best face creams and try yo maintain a healthy diet in hopes of staying young looking forever, like you! And not to mention you have had 5 children!?!? Gotta know what the secret is. WOuld also like to say, what a breath of fresh air you and your husband are, he is very nice and humble and you are both so happy and very respectful of others, I am referring to all the other messes on your show and the other HW's shows. Please, Please I want to know the secret!? LS Las Vegas

You are SO GREAT. I like your family very much and I am envious of your closet lock. When I graduated from university I also waited tables (while interning at a major auction house) so poo on that mean housewife from the 'SW of London' for criticizing you for tipping your daughter. My mum used to come into my cafe and tip me egregiously, and it helped me enormously. In turn however, I would take her to lunch, or do something nice for her. No one knows what your daughter does for you, and she has no right to comment.

I was surprised to see that you had a daughter that was 23, you look like you are maybe 33, or 34, and you and your husband are super cute. I look forward to seeing more and hope that all continues to go well with you and your family!

It's obvious that Cat is jealous of your happiness. Ergo, the comments TO your daughter and about YOU as a mother. Just ignore her as much as you can. You're still adorable in my book.

Hi Mary,

Like everyone else, you are quickly becoming my favorite housewife on the show...but I must ask, did you call your daughter's dog a Bernese Mountain Dog? Berners are tri-colored, a jet black body with rust trim, snow tipped paws and the white Swiss cross on their chest. Any ground color other than black is a disqualification, as are blue eyes.

I was just curious if I heard you right. I've been involved with the breed for 15-years and just can't imagine not sharing my home with them. I've grown accustomed to pulling dog hair out of my food, getting out of the shower to dry off and discovering I'm now covered in black hair, and sharing my bed with the best foot warmers in the world!

Who cares if Mary lives in Mclean? Im guessing alot of people do not realize how small DC is or the fact that you can be in MD or VA in less then 10 minutes (depending on where you are in DC). Plus Mclean VA is probably less then 15 miles outside of DC. It is not uncommon for people from DC to move to MD or VA for better housing or better schools. Alot of people who do move to the "burbs" still spend a majority of their time in DC. Mary rocks and is awesome!! Dont give her a hard time about where she lives when you clearly do not know the area.

Mary You're a Hoot!! I'm looking forward to your next blog entry! I think you are the most savvy lady in the whole Housewives franchise! You appear to be authentic, while also being mindful of the new media fish bowl in which you're now swimming. Having my own family, with history on The Hill, I totally appreciate the world in which you all are living. You're a Doll & having kids the same ages as yours, I also really get a kick out of you & your family!! The show is Great & you are a true Delight!!

Time for this show to end!!! It should have never started to begin with...Love all the housewives, but DC started on the wrong foot by disrespecting the president. Love him or hate him he deserves respect and security... All the other Housewife shows are the best.. DC has to go and regroup..............
