NYC's Alex McCord weighs in on the Paris trip, the birthday party "hot potato," and more.

on Aug 23, 20100

So, did we realize this week why politics and housewives don't mix? Jason was the only one willing to speak about how off the wall Michaele's attempt at political commentary was - at least I think she was talking about the President because I heard his name come up. Couldn't be too sure because she was speaking gibberish. I honestly think I'd rather hear Danielle chant "love and light" or Kelly interject "zip it" than hear the Salahis discuss anything political.

I liked seeing a winery other than Oasis on the show, though why did Stacie & Jason's friends vaporize after showing them in? Did they not want to hear Tareq go on about the longevity of wine? I could have done without that too -- don't talk about it, just taste it! At least when the white limo pulled up they didn't have a police escort.

Paris was fun - I wish they'd shown more of that trip. I've no doubt that Jason's brother is ripping up Montmartre with his band; good for him and I was so pleased to see that this trip wasn't all about shopping and being touristy but rather just existing - this was the FIRST time we've seen any housewives in Europe where they didn't seem like American fish out of water - hopefully not the last!

The whole birthday party hot potato drove me a little crazy. Why on earth do you get an attorney involved? Can you not have a down-to-earth conversation with the publicist and the venue to lay out who is paying for what? If multiple hosts were involved, work it out. It's despicable to have someone call and say you're not showing up to a party you're throwing without a written waiver stating that everything is free. Yikes.

What do you all think so far? Are you happy? Are you horrified? Let me know here and on Twitter @mccordalex - and if you're in Canada we're excited to announce that our book is available on Amazon Canada and that the third season of The Real Housewives of New York City starts on September 11th!

Seems like you're forming your opinions with what's popular instead of what's right. Still a follower , Alex

ALEX!!!!!

As usual you are spot on, I cant wait to see the next season of RHWNYC, but it will be equally entertaining to see your blog after the reunion for Jersey....and Atlanta. Keep blogging i enjoy your insight and have yet to disagree! P.S. give simon and the boys our love!

Love Alex!
Love Alex!

Alex + Simon + Bethany + Jason (and of course throw in the Ramona Coaster!! and Mario) and I say we have a show that is full of excitement. Bag the rest!

We get 3 families in different stages, each with their unique style, and if you ever got the three guys out for a guy date it would be heaven. Each so different and yet each so open but still guarded. The Yins to your Yangs and I just love each of you ladies for your special traits.

Alex - you and your husband make no excuses for enjoying your lives the way you see fit, even against the grain (love you Simon). That is freedom.

Ramona Coaster - A smart focused business woman who's not afraid to let her hair down or say what she thinks. And Mario knows how to put meddlers in their place. Turtle Time!

Bethany - Congrats to finding balance with Jason and your precious little girl. We want to see you move through the stages of motherhood, marriage and career. You found yourself an unpretentious love bug. Believe in yourself, your husband, your career and your skills as parents. I think you may have some strong allies in the other two couples who will hold your hand the first time the baby throws a fit or you are just burnt out. I love how you are brutally honest. Growing up in my own madhouse I understand and implement a low tolerance for BS and believe that life would actually be better if all friendships could be so honest as to say what we really feel. BTW Jason, do wrong by our sister and your daughter and there will be brooms and pitchforks.

Ladies, I hope that when next season starts we get a show that has the three of you plus your own real friends. NO need to even make it a RHONY, could be something fresh - just so long as there are no whining self entitled troublemaking fabric lovers (oh - I actually liked bobby), former countesses, or tranny socialites who mistakes her natural, non-procesed jellybeans for her lithium.

RHODC - DONE after 3 episodes - some potential in the cast but it makes me nauseous to see the Salahi's, especially after they thought national security was a game, and reports say that they don't pay their vendors. Bravo should have turned the footage over to congress - exposed them then - then cocooned them in that sari in cave somewhere - and then edited around her. Then we would have had a show worth watching. Bravo blew it this time.

Hey Andy C!

I have to remark that alex raises a valid point about acting like a fish out of water. There is a reason that the study abroad office at my university advises us to say we are canadian because some countries dont like americans. On a trip to paris with a group of americans i was horribly embarassed that the girls rather find a mcdonalds then enjoy the famous parisan cuisine. Let alone their lack of respect for the louve. The guide gave us 1 hour before closing to check the place out. Sadly our culture can be self-indulgent and some people take that attitude abroad. Leaving them looking like a fish out of water

Housewives of D.C. is the best so far. Classy ladies and interesting stories and a great backround. Take Nwe Jersey Housewives off the air and and put this show on twice for the season. Cannot say enough. Take a look at the women in both shows. Top class to very low class. Can't say enough good stuff about D.C. Can't say enough bad stuff about N.J. No comparison. None at all.

Agree with the political views. How about being neutral or fair to both sides. Hidden agendas are so annoying. Be easy on Michaele. Remember how mean the show was to you on season 1. You've come a long way.

Alex, missed the rhony so glad that you all are coming back, you and Ramona are my two favorite housewives.

Alex, I'm beginning to like you again. The Salahis are whiskey tango bar none. If the culture in DC is to have people hosting parties, good idea actually, the Salahis should ante up as they promised.

Alex, I love you dearly, but you are starting to sound a bit Alex-Knows-Best...and that is a turn-off. It's great to see your comments from time to time, but now you seem to be hogging every housewives website in existence. Stick to NY and let us judge this show for the people that are actually on this show.

i have to agree about the politics being more a part of this show. they are in d.c., and that is where it's happening. i'm tired of food, wine and horses. i want politics. i want some meat in this show. why do d.c. if you are not going to be political?

i am not very into this show. i really don't relate to anyone. i feel like everything is sort of for an "insider," and we are not insiders.

alex, gotta tell you. the first year you and simon were on hofnyc, i was not a fan. you and simon have totally won me over, especially last season. i just thought you were so great. i think you finally came into your own, and we got to see another side of you, a feistier side. i don't want to see drama manufactured for the sake of the show, but if it's real, you do what you have to do to take care of yourself. my best to you and simon and johann and francoise. i hope i spelled the children's names correctly.

Alex, the Salahis' remind me of you and your husband on the first season of the RHONY...they are so desperate to fit in just like you and Simon were!!

DC is great and much classier than the other Housewives' shows, so far. I'm sure the drama will build in the coming episodes. I also love the fact that the show is more interacial than any of the other shows. Atlanta has one white girl who's a wannabe and the other show are all white-washed (I mean don't they have any black friends?)... so I find this show much more refreshing. I love all the co-mingling and I especially love the mixed couple. Finally!!

I am only watching this show because of you. They have too many issues that don't seem to meet. But I wonder if they picked say me and other women from here just what would we have in common. They need to have lunches - dinner with husbands before starting a show like this.

As stated on Stacie's blog, the Biases (of Sugarleaf) were hosting their annual harvest party, so they were tending to their guests.

I don't love your guest blogs. You are one of my favorite housewives (second to Bethenny) and the RHONYC is my favorite of the Housewives shows (although as a fellow NYer, I'm biased). But you're guest blogs seem a bit catty and condescending. Who cares if Americans appear touristy in Europe? I know that on my honeymoon I did plenty of tourist things - I'm American, not European!

I understand that you want to remain in the public eye so as to promote your book and other accomplishments. That's definitely a smart business decision. However, perhaps you could tone it down with the cattiness.

Hope your children are doing well.

I'm really enjoying this show in the franchise. It's such a relief to get a break from the cat fighting and melodrama of the other shows. While I may be in the minority, I'll definitely keep watching.

I have come to the conclusion that I need to cut back on watching all of the docudramas on Bravo. I know for sure I am not going to stop watching Watch What Happens Live with Andy, he is just too funny. The only regret is his show is not a hour like the rest of the shows. The only other one I am sure of right now, of course, is your show, RHONYC. The story lines, or lack of, I have been viewing in the last few months or so will make easy to cut my list. I just don't know if it is that Bravo is get so much attention that their lack of substance is being neglected.

I agree with Wellskate...why doesn't Paul plan and pay for his own party? What is he 12 years old (enter sarcasm here!) He's an adult, you want a party throw your own!

You are one of my favorite Housewives, but a little condescending on your guest blogs, in my opinion. Your digs seem a little immature, like this is the first time Housewives have not acted like tourists in Europe. Well if you don't live in Europe....doesn't that make you a tourist? You seem to need to be knocked off the pedestal you've climbed on, just a bit.

Alex - GREAT to have you onboard with blogging. You hit the nails on the head. I was appalled that a lawyer was called in on the birthday party issue. I feel badly for Paul--he seems to be a terrific guy. Wish he was a regular on the show...love him and you!!!

Alex, I love your blog....you are right on!

Why doesn't Paul Wharton plan and pay for his own Birthday parties anyway?

my last season
my last season

Stacie and Jason's friends vaporized because as they stated on the show they had other guests to tend to which I'm sure in the running of their business being on the Houswives was not their main priority. As for politics not mixing, this was the one show of the franchise who SHOULD be discussing politics-maybe that will be the only thing that can save this show because these people are boring! Politics is such a hot button issue right now so why aren't these people discussing the one thing going on in their town that would sure bring on some fireworks. Not sure why you are the only one to guest blog but I do enjoy your input however I'd like to see Bethenny submit a blog every now and then.

The whole birthday party drove me crazy, too. I believe that's why you should never ASK someone to have a party in your honor. Weird. I had to laugh out loud when reading your comment about Danielle's "love and light" and Kelly's "zip it". Too bad Kelly wasn't there to tell her to zip it!! You, Alex, are funny!!

SPOT on with everything you noted in this blog, Alex. You hit the nail on the head with your commentary about the Salahis (especially the birthday party payment issue) without interjecting a holier-than-thou or judgmental tone. It is difficult to respect housewife bashing when you are one yourself, but this blog brings back the good old intelligence you used to display in your blogs..

i really can't get into RHODC. the best part about the show is actually the blog section...and even that's pretty dry. they're all too concerned with their appearances and reputations to be genuinely engaging and interesting.

also...i think it's kinda funny that stacie chose to share her story about her parents w michaele on camera...did she not realize that while confiding in her, she was also confiding in all of her viewers?
