So far, Washington, I'm more interested in the men than the women. Let's start there. Tareq got more and more annoying as the episode played out, but in the first scene he was actually quite sweet as he showered his wife with birthday gifts, and made the best of her, um, effervescent name choice for Sparkle the horse. (Though how he thought that he'd get away with Michaele choosing only one item was beyond me.)
Rich cracked me up with his expressive eyes, watching Mary or Jason & Ebong and commenting with his face before speaking. I have to agree with him that if you're thinking of bringing the housekeeper on full time to deal with the daughter's dog and laundry, there's a problem.
Jason was so earnest. He has a patent! For penises! And he wants to share it with all his friends! I’m still not quite sure why measuring is needed, a sentiment which Ebong echoed. Lynda is all the measurement he needs, which is as it should be.
Paul had a birthday and out of all the madcap stylists Bravo has introduced us to, I really like him, his hair, his military jackets and Bill Cosby sweaters, and his ability to move smoothly between all the ladies without starting any fires. Yet. I can't wait to see him style the men.
Charles demonstrated to the viewers how he's been able to keep his job across bipartisan administrations, and was much more clear than his wife was last week. Don't let your own political feelings come into play – you are shooting pics of a person, not a party. Makes complete sense to me, though I could have done without Lynda ooh'ing and ahh'ing over his access.
What else happened this week? The Salahis took Cat and Mary through a preposterous riding exercise. Were they learning how to play polo? What was that, and why on earth were Michaele and Tareq seated on a red carpet with beer? And wearing jodhpurs? Where I come from we wear jeans to ride – even in Virginia.
Why did we need to see Michaele planning Paul's party? And why was it a competition with Lynda to do something bigger and better? Snooooooze. Let's get to Aunt Frances' dinner – does anyone else want her recipe for peach cobbler? I do. Cat needed to either drink the wine she brought herself, or pipe down. One point for wearing fetching knitwear, 10 points off for being awkward.
Why on earth did the Salahis show up late and in a white limo? Oh right, they like to make a splash, which apparently is more important than holding the birthday boy's hand when he was nervous. And the police escort? Champagne sabrage? Really? And Paul had to make his own toast? Ugh. The only reason there should be police at a party is at 3 a.m. to tell you to pleeeeease turn the music down and stop dancing with the valets in the parking lot. Oops, I forgot we're in D.C., not the Hamptons.
That's it for this week, and if you happen to be in the Hamptons this weekend, consider stopping by the East Hampton Library tomorrow night. We'll be there signing copies of Little Kids, Big City along with many other authors.
So nice to read you here, Alex. I've missed you! If you don't come back to RHNY next season, I'm not going to watch.
I disagree; I think you can find plenty of good things about the women of DC. Overall, you offer weak insight. How on earth could you question the validity of a scene (Michaele planning Paul's party) when you have been in countless boring and embarrassing scenes on RHONY? (Your birthday party on a boat ride comes to mind...didn't we listen to Simon plan that ad nauseum???) You continue to offend the women of DC as if you and the NY ladies are so much more sophisticated, tasteful, and dramaless. Pleaseeeeeeeeee! If I thought it would get printed I would run the laundry list of scenes showing Alex and Simon desperately social climbing since season 1. You have nerve to negatively comment about Lynda being impressed with Charles' political access!! Given your history on the NY show, you would kill for high-level access of ANY kind to ANY place, let's face it!!(Bethenny had you guys crawling through an HVAC vent, I think, to get into a party...hmmmm). Do you not have one positive thing to say about the women? Come on, look at how behaved this season!!
good to hear from you Alex! always enjoy reading your 'blogs'now! you are so descriptive & give your opinions 'oomph! since I don't watch & won't be your description of the characters is right on don't even have to see them! keep up the good work Alex, can't wait for next season of the RHONY with YOU! looking forward to you, Simon, Countess, Sonja, Jill, Jen......... & Rosie LuAnn's housekeeper! thats all we need.
Oh Alex I know you are in Brooklyn trying to survive in this economy and I appreciated your candor because I am in Columbus, Ohio trying to survive in this economy. But I think I would rather taste test cat food than have to watch this show every week; I give you lots and lots of credit for being able to find any engaging or interesting slant to blog about when it comes to these losers. You deserve lots and lots of money because it can't be easy.
Alex , it is good to having you blog on this show too ! You are the voice of reason , we have all learned to trust your opinion in your blog on all of the Housewives shows . So far , this DC show is a sleeper , all we do is yawn during the viewing , it has got to get better or we are going to stop watching it . Hope the book is selling off the shelves , best to you andd your wonderful family !
Are you posting bad comments about Alex? She is BORING! please Bravo, I don't want to see her everywhere.
Excellent observations. I have the same questions you do...WHY the police escort and white limo? WHY the riding pants after Michaele obviously told the ladies to wear jeans. WHY was THEIR entrance grander than the BIRTHDAY BOY??? OMG - they are beyond already and we're only on episode 2.
Why is it that you blog on the other housewives shows before they do? I think it is that you really care about the viewers, regardless what show they are watching. These housewives that wait forever to blog could just write, no time will write as soon as I can. Don't need to know why they don't have time just tell us! HEY DC HOUSEWIVES CAN YOU HEAR ME! Thanks Alex for letting me vent, miss you and all of NYC
Ummmmm.......Alex, I'm going to ask you the same thing I asked Jill......What's going on? Why all the negativity? Why the superior attitude? Girl, you are losing me and I don't want you to. Go back to the Alex I love....hope this new Alex isn't the real thing. You are jumping to conclusions and making "Snarky" comments, the kind you didn't like when directed your way.
I deleted the timer for RHODC. I watch all reality shows, but this one is just awful! Love you Alex. You are true blue! So refreshing!
I love the blogs.....you're hitting what I'm thinking with absolute clarity. Hope you continue on and do a blog for Atlanta. I'd love to hear what you have to say about them too. One question for all. Am I the only one who is having trouble understanding a bit of what Cat says? Her voice is so LOW that it's hard for me to hear her. She could use some elocution lessons......tut tut......those British don't know EVERYTHING, they only think they do.
Alex, Your writing is so witty and entertaining. I think you read my mind on all points!! I do think it was rude of Ms. Cat to leave the dinner party prematurally, but she certainly has something strange going on with her. Only time will tell. Is she actually married or divorced? I was kind of annoyed the day Tareq gave Michaele gifts to choose from for her birthday. She blasted wanted everything!!! It's like; do you take your kid into a candy store, or just bring him one candy bar? This kind of living is WAY out of my league. I am a bit curious to see what the rest of the season has in store. Tawney.
you ask alex if she has anything good to say about the dc wives. but you wrote on and on and never said one good thing about anyone, including alex. why so spitting mad, girl?
I think you have such a great perspective on all the shows, including your own. Congrats on the book and tour, Hope all is well!!
Alex,
I must admit that you and Bethenny are the "Brains" of the Real Housewives Franchise...Extremely smart and intelligent always with a very concise and correct blog!!! Keep up the good work...
She just being honest this latest addition to the real housewife's is awful, when the show starts i can't turn off the television fast enough
Alex, I have to completely agree with this line of your blog-- why on earth were Michaele and Tareq seated on a red carpet with beer? And wearing jodhpurs? ==this made me laugh out loud, I was thinking the same thing! What was up with that!?!
i love you Alex! I think your right on point with this blog, dc is not the Hamptons or even NYC, but that's what makes it interesting. Their more like your typical drunk snob housewife and not the kind that runs the town like NY does. I hope the pace kicks up a little bit.
Most riders in VA horse country wear jodpurs for "events". For other things, it's usually Jeans. And just like any party, when invited to a horsey whatever, the host specifies "Jeans" or "Jodpurs". Michaele tried to pull a fast one to make herself look better. Since she'd never rode a horse until the show, I guess she went shopping.
Alex, I am enjoying your blog. In addition to the Bravo blogs, I would encourage everyone to read online the Washington Post's very insightful "Reliable Source" recap of each episode. You may recall, the "Reliable Source" reporters are the ones who blew the whistle on the Salahis' White House crashing last November. BTW, our local paper just reported today that the Salahis will be in court once again on September 13th for not paying their bills - this time to the caterer Salamander Market in D.C. for $300,000!
Alex blogs best! I like your blogs best Alex! I don't even watch the show ( DC) don't have to as I tried first time and don't like it at all so I read your 'blogs' just to hear what YOU have to say! miss you so much on NYC & appearances on Bethennys' show too, really miss you! Jill keeps popping up on Twitter & FB too, telling us where sh'e going here & there but not saying anything we can 'comment' on, h mmmm. Countess so busy busy with her new found FAME! I don't like Ramona anymore, she's peddling her jewelry line more now on FB & Twitter t oo, gets boring! we love hearing from you Alex, keep us informed & thank you!
Bravo - why do you have Alex blogging about everything? Every since she decided she wanted to form an 'opinion', she seems to comment on anything and everything. Can't we get someone like Bethany to post? Alex is nothing but a wannabe. Ugh.
Hummm -- could it be because both Alex and Simon are both well educated and are great bloggers with respect to syntax and semantics ....
Alex, it took me a while, but I Love your wit and humor. Can the RHODC be anymore boring? I keep turning in to see if things heat up and no such luck!!! Best wishes.
I agree with everything you said! Everything about this season is actually very boring to me so far! I can't get into it, my mind wanders, no captivating material... bummer! PEACH COBBLER RECIPE PLEASE??? Yes, I was shouting :-)
I have to be honest, I don't watch DC wives. I tried for 10 minutes the first night and that was all I could take. There isn't a genuine moment to be seen. I can't read recaps either. This show is so bad. I have some complaints about all of the housewife shows, they seem very forced and rehearsed at times but DC wives is just plain phony. Not wasting my time on it.

do you guys ever come to the west coast (california) for signings?
