This week's episode is one that makes me long to return to one of my favorite cities.... Paris! I have not been back to the "City of Lights" since I was 18! My father used to take me with him on business trips, much to my teenage delight. I have such great memories with my dad, who is one of my heroes. I got a bit busy raising a family of five kids since that trip, and haven't been able to get back. I enjoyed living vicariously as I watched The Turners and Salahis walking those beautiful streets. It made me want to go back soon! I would love to get the Amons kids there as well. Can you imagine? It could be a true updated re-enactment of the Griswolds' "European Vacation!" I am passionate about music, art and fashion which is such an important part of French culture. It was so exciting to see Jason's brother perform! Who knew Jason's family included a rock star musician? It was great to see Stacy and Jason travel so far to support him. It's very touching to me how clearly they love their families. I loved how Stacy was worried about the "details" and Jason just basically said, "I got this, it's what I do!" What a funny scene. Even the matching luggage made me smile -- they are the cutest couple! If ever asked to do this show again, I am signing up for a Turner Tour of Paris next season!!
Paul's party aftermath was interesting. I actually had to duck out pretty quickly that night. I was feeling very ill that day and was feeling pretty miserable at dinner, but I felt strongly about sticking around to hear Paul speak and honor him on his special day. I was so touched by his beautiful toast when he was FINALLY allowed the chance to speak! Paul spoke from his heart and was obviously very moved by all of his friends who showed up to celebrate him. I thought he handled all the many "distractions" very well that night and I loved his candor and honesty in his speech. I decided to exit the party as soon as the cake was cut -- I'm sure glad I did! I think I dodged a bullet and escaped some drama!
Our Meghan was awarded "Funniest Amons One Liner of the Week" at the end of our "sexting" conversation, and I am proud of her that she raised the issue with me, on camera no less! I'm not sure I would have had the courage to speak about such issues with my parents at her age, even in private. It's healthy to talk about issues and pressures kids are dealing with these days. I certainly don't want my kids to get their information from friends at parties (oh, maybe that was just me?) or the Internet. I feel her school did a good job of putting it out there. It's a world I am shocked by regularly these days....
I caught some heat this week about Kona from some people and "making" Rosa "gear up and pick up." I have to plead ignorance on that as Rosa knew it bothered me and took matters into her own hands. I did not ask her to do get down on her hands and knees and go on "poop patrol" and never would. I would have "TOLD" Lolly to do it. Also, thank you for the many tips on dealing with Kona's non-stop shedding! We did pick up a "Furminator" and it's worked great! We found we could stuff pillows with all the hair it takes off.... now, if we could just find a spot for Lolly to "Furminate" other than our driveway, we would be making real progress on a special pet peeve of mine.... Also, to clarify, Kona is a mixed breed, a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and an English Mastiff. Some of you were curious and I got it wrong in one of my interviews. Apologies!
I did get a chance to check out the Bravo Real Housewives of D.C. part of the website a bit more this past week and loved seeing the bonus clips! I was disappointed to see that my clip of grocery shopping in our local Safeway with my son Ryan wound up on the editing room floor! I have been making the "Mclean Safeway Shuffle Shopping trip" since I was a child, and I consider the people there to be part of my extended family. Our family watched it together and we laughed, especially when I make a pretty bold statement about the "talent" that I have developed in packing a grocery cart! I used to have to use two carts. Thanks to my yet to be patented system I'm down to one (hey, it's little things that make you happy!) Even our bonus clip about our family morning routine was bizarre for me to watch as I usually am sleepwalking in my PJs and Uggs when I do it and usually on autopilot!
We are having a great time so far as a family enjoying this surreal experience of watching ourselves on TV! The show has provided plenty of ammunition for all for us to make fun of each other, although I seem to be taking most of the shots! I guess that's what I signed up for with this gig, so my skin is getting tougher by the moment these days! We are pleased that editors have chosen to show the fun we have together and the ups and downs of living life as a large family! I have been overwhelmed by the overall expression of support and cheers from you viewers and even the critics are funny (well, some of them anyway) with their comments and observations. THANK YOU for taking the time to share your kind words towards me and our family! I'm truly humbled! My heart is that our story will be seen as one that is positive, real and relatable, even if seen through a reality show filter, which is highly unusual, and can only tell a small part of our story. No matter where you come from, regardless of what your economic or perceived or hoped for social status is or isn't, family, and relationships are what makes the world go around, and we all need to show respect, support, and love for one another, especially within our own families, which sometimes can be the hardest challenge. I know it can be for us at least!! To be given an opportunity to share our "functionally dysfunctional" family story has been a humbling and wonderful experience so far and I am holding on tight during this pretty wild ride!
Thanks again for watching, especially if you're on vacation! I hope the show is entertaining, and I know there is more soap opera drama to come, so hang in there with us. There's more fun and craziness to come!
Hi Mary ...How are you, hope all is well ...I love the whole Housewives series But have never never written in to any ...That being said...I just have to know where your fantastic silver cross with the black rubber or rope necklace came from ??? It just screams me ...lol... Lots of luck..Trina Tenam, NYC
Paul seems like he is another male housewife, but who asks people to host their birthday party anyway; strange. Why would you put your child in public school when it doesn't seem like she wants to be there?
Mary you are such a breath of fresh air and very family oriented. You are someone who is loyal to the end and any woman would be lucky to have you as a friend. I love the way you portray yourself plus I find it unbelievable you are a mother of five, you look amazing.
Mary where do I begin??? First of all you Must take the Whole Clan to Paris!! We took our whole group, the grown ones all the way down to the teens & it was Magical..Crazy, but Magical!! I actually recognized the view during tonight's Paris champagne shot, we stayed down the street. As you know, once you have older kids, they all grow & evolve at their own rate, no matter what their family's financial situation!! Congrats on speaking up for Cat! It's obvious that anything said by either of you was taken out of context!! You both are delightful & refreshing!! So glad you & your family have such a great sense of humor & are enjoying this experience! I loooooved the trip to Safeway!!! I completely understand your pride in your grocery cart packing skills!!
I also am so intrigued by your incredible ability to be actively involved with your friends, without getting the least bit catty!! You clearly think before you speak!! I find this to be an intelligent group of ladies & I think it makes for a more interesting story! I hope Bravo appreciates this refreshing version of Real Housewives!
Mary that cross you wear is fantastic.Could you please mention where it comes from on your blog ...Lots of luck...
Mary you are such a class act! Of all the housewives on TV you really present yourself with such style and grace. Though you come from money you don't throw it in anyone's face. Your husband is sooo sexy girl and you both look great together. I would also like to say you both seem to have reared very polite and stable children. Some of the other housewives in other cities could take lessons from your family on how to have money and not spoil their children rotton. Out of all the housewives on TV I truly enjoy watching you the most because you don't seem to fill your life with the drama around you.
Thanks for your timely blogs. I'm always so impressed with the housewives who post their blogs right on the night of the episode. I am a Mother of an only child who is now a sophmore in college. Therefore, I cannot imagine how (or why LOL!!) you raised five kids! But you seem to be a great wife & Mother & still manage to laugh, which is great!! Rise above the "mean girl" crap please! In other words, please don't be like Alex from RHONY & let the show change you from a nice, normal person, into a "mean girl"!!
Dear Mary, I am a little old lady (81) from Kansas----I can't begin to tell you how very very much I enjoyed the first episode of the Washington D.C. Housewives!!! All of the women are so diverse and so very interesting! I so enjoyed the N.Y. Housewives, but I think you "girls" will prove to be more exciting in the long run. I find you and Stacie the only normal ones in the group. I cannot believe you are the mother of a 23 year old daughter! You look as young as your daughter, Mary! You are indeed a natural beauty!!!! Wishing you all the best!! L. Ramirez P.S. Your husband is an absolute doll! What a lovely man!
Mary, I admire you the most out of all the housewives because you, like I strive to, seem to appreciate your luck in having money without feeling "guilty" about spending it; I loved seeing you and Ryan in Safeway because even though you spent money, you were spending it on something that benefitted the whole family and not something frivolous like many of the other housewives on your series and in the whole franchise have demonstrated. Your kids seem intelligent and down-to-earth (haven't we all been waitresses at some point in our life with our parents "spoiling" us a little with their tips? At least you're not letting your kids do nothing and receive allowances!) - keep up the good work; I look forward to seeing more about you and your family!
I love Mary on the show. She is the sweetest and seems like the only one who isn't into all the drama and madness. She is very sweet and down to earth and I can tell she's an amazing mother, wife, and friend!
Love you Mary and there will always be people that don't like something..stay true to who you are while on the show. The Housewives that try to be someone else and become addicted to the fame seem to crash and burn.
love you & your family! You handle yourself with grace and dignity. But, your a gal who knows how to have fun. I really enjoy watching your segments. Can't wait tosee the rest of the season. Also, Cat is a hoot! love her too.
Mary - for some reason I didn't want to like you - thought you were a tad snobby, but you are wearing me down. I enjoy watching you. I love your hair by the way. Straight & curly - lucky girl.
Mary!!!You just won my heart. What a real girl you are. We are lucky to have you and your family to watch. Very entertaining.
I really like you and the show. You are a breathe of fresh air. However, I would learn how to spell your friend's name. To Bravo's knowledge, it appears to be spelled...S.T.A.C.I.E.
Thank you Mary! You bring such a breath of fresh air to the Housewife franchise. It is clear where your priorities lie. You are thoughtful, loving, and classy. I look forward to see how you navigate through whatever housewife drama is thrown at you. Good Luck!
Hi Mary~ Love the new wives so far~especially you & yours~you seem the sweetest & I can relate to pet hair that never ends with our 4 kitties~cleaning 2 kitty boxes 4 times a day because they are indoor kitties only & the endless dusting & vacuuming is worth the love they give us. We have no children so I always enjoy watching others grow & learn. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to relate to our new wives but we are all the same~some have more~some have less. Peace Love & Hugs To You All~ You are doing a great job & you are all entertaining!
Mary -- Love you on the show and your character and you have my viewership! Please tell the producers Paul needs to go! He just is an attention seeker and I see him jumping from one character to the next for attention - get a life if you are going to invite 100's of people to your party then you pay for it! On a side note, where did you get that cross it is honestly breath-taking? We have all made good and bad investments in life but what is so great is how you and husband supported your friends and are still standing by them in the end and that shows true character. Take that family to Paris I can only imagine the scenes in the airport and the entertainment value. Girlfriend - You better hold on to that man you are right he is HOT!!
Mary, I find that you are one of the only ladies on this show who is just that, a lady. You show grace and tolerance when in similar situations, I would have blown my cool. When Cat told you you created that mess with your older daughter on your lunch date, you looked like you had alot to say, but you kept it to yourself. What a classy move! You have to consider the source when people offer unsolicited advice on your children, and you did with flying colors. Keep up the good example. I may not continue to watch the show, but you are one of the bright spots!
Sheila
Mary - you and Stacie are my favorites. You both seem so down to earth, genuine and, well golly gosh, normal. The others on the show, not quite sure about. Can't wait to see what happens next week.
I really do like you, Mary.......don't get me wrong when I say this, but is there any scene on any of the episodes, so far, where you are not drinking wine?? I am sure you are not an alcoholic, but the editing is making you look like one..............
What a breath of Fresh Air, having you, Mary, on the show. Please don't let the show change you because so far you are fun to watch and the only reason why I turn on the DC Wives. Well, I like Stacie too. Keep Keepin it real.
Mary you and Stacie are my favorite housewives so far. Please keep it real and stay true to yourelf.
You are my favorite. You just seem classy and fun. And you look like a great mom, and you're very pretty as well.
Kudos to you for choosing public school! It's the real world and can be just as effective and advantageous as private. Plus this world could use alot less feelings of entitlement from our youth.
You are amazing. So real, compassionate, funny and beautiful both inside and out! Love you and your husband on the show!!! Echoing another post, stay healthy and humble.
Hi There, Just wanted to say that I watch all of the "House wife" shows.. And consider myself a "Bucks county Pa" house wife.. LOL But for what ever it is worth..I am going to put my 2 cents in and say that Mary from DC is my favorite.. Beautiful and sweet.. I wonder how she keeps in such great shape? Maybe she could share some of her beauty secrets with us some time? Would love to know what type of workouts she does? or is it just genetics? Kathy
Smart of you to ease off on the nastiness. For a minute it seemed like you were heading down the DB path with Cat & that short southern gal. Keep up the self restraint; it looks good on you.
Hey Mary-I love watching you and I so appreciate your honest approach to things. The one thing I've noticed about you is that you always have a glass of wine in your hand. Do you really drink that much? I'm wondering because you are far too lovely and sweet to have that monkey on your back.
Take care-can't wait till next week's show.
Mary you appear to be an open and truthful person with a "real" family and real life issues except making an episode out of the frustration over a shedding dog - I mean really. It was enough to make me say - I can't watch this crap anymore.
Mary, How do you stay looking so incredibly young and in shape? Please do tell!!! You are such a beautiful girl, but wondered like like other viewers why you have a glass of wine in one hand so often???
You seem to be a person who sees the truth in things. You also seem to be a true friend. I love watching your family and I love that you have a finger print scanner on your closet! Too Funny! My Mom needed one of those when I was growing up!
Would have loved to see the Safeway footage as that is the market I grew up with and the one my father still goes to!!!!! There are some true characters there who are a part of our family as well! Looking forward to seeing more shots of McLean. Love the show:)

Must you keep reminding everyone about Michaele marrying into money and how she used to be a servant girl? It makes you look petty, which I am sure you're not! Anyway, she must be doing something right, the two of you ARE on the same show!!
I love the show....The Housewives are so classy, beautiful and successful!! You are just so cute...loved your hair strait...although no matter how you wear your hair...it is very beautiful!!!
Looking forward to watching more and more...
By the way...you (or your daughter) can take Kona to a groomer...most offer a de-shedding treatment that works really well....My beagle sheds another dog regularly
I definitely like Mary the best on DC! I thought I wouldn't be able to watch at all if not for you!! I agree with the other viewer- I LOVE that necklace!! PLEASE tell us where you got it/ who the designer is??
Mary...you are a breathe of fresh air for the "Housewives" franchise. It's so nice to watch an intelligent couple who get along nicely, and have a long history together, have raised well-behaved, bright kids, and who have enjoyed success in their lives. Bravo should realize that THAT is good TV and we don't all want to watch all the drama, bickering, sniping, and constant attention-getting that "some" cast members appear to crave. Stacie and her husband are also fun to watch for the same reasons. I look forward to learning more about your beautiful family. Stay classy!!
Loved this week's show and the Safeway Video with your son, my college age son would never go with me to Safeway unless I paid him cash money!! I did see your husband in the checkout line there last week and he had all the Safeway ladies laughing about the show and they all obviously love you from the way they were all talking about you and the family. It's great to see you guys on Bravo and then, there you are, in Mclean, too funny!! :) Really enjoy your point of view on things so far and you seem to have a great sense of humor about it all, keep it up Mary!
Mary, You see the situation for what it is but don't say it aloud. And, no, you don't drink too much...lol. Best wishes with your charity :)
What a breath of fresh air all you D.C. housewives are. Every single one of you has your own personality, your own foibles, your own gifts. Your gift, my dear, is that of being a wonderful mother and wife. And of all the jobs I have in my life had, none has been harder (and more rewarding) than that of being a mom. I didn't like Cat butting into yours' and Lolly's relationship, but you handled it with clarity and class. I relate like that to my daughter and she is a marvelous human being. Your grandfather would have been very very proud, Mary Aamons.

So far I like Mary especially her love at being a mom out of all the housewives I identity with her the most. Hope my opinion dosent change.
