Lea Black

Hog Wild

Lea discusses her jokes at the pig roast, and her fairy godmother status.

Mar 15, 2011

Well the Miami Housewives have officially gone hog wild.

Forget hair pulling, punching, or table flipping. Pig flipping is the new housewife sport.

From little Miss Piggy to Babe to a Hialeah pig farm, this little piggy takes center stage. My hands are shaking just writing about it. Poor thing!

Then Philippe's engagement announcement: well, so I made a couple of jokes (the green card and marriage forecast). After all this is Miami, and it's an insider joke. Unless you're looking to be "catty," you will see the humor, and if not, well, some jokes get slaughtered, too!

Of course I know (and Philippe knows that I know) he has a green card. His Gourmet at Home Catering Experiences company wouldn't be around if not, right? By the way it's yummy. Never asked if he carried pork though! Let's hope not.

Forgot to mention: Marysol ate so much pork that night she was up with a stomachache all night! Now, that's what I call pigging-out.

It wasn't funny and you were insensitive to your audience. When people are asking how much you've had to drink, they're telling you that what you are saying is rude. If you are going to be an arbiter of what is proper with other Housewives, own it when you have stepped over the line.

"Alot of adriana's in my life that need help?" Wowww wouldnt like one of my "friends" to describe me like that. You seem like the self righteous type that like to think everybody's life would crumble without u in it...WAKE UP! You're not a friend! Your "jokes" are so insensitive and in fact liek u said very "Catty."

Hi Lea... I felt so sorry for you being at the party centered around an in tact dead animal. That whole thing was SAD and SICK. I was surprised at Bravo for thinking we would want to see it. It was also rude to surprise you with it,,,, especially knowing how you would feel about it. I wouldn't have been able to stay. So glad you had the nerve to not go along with thinking it was cute or funny.

Just watched the show. It was great as always and you are my favorite HW. You looked beautiful at Alexia's party. Loved your dress and hair. Sorry you don't like pork. I would have loved it. Keep up the humor, think it makes the show. In San Antonio we thrive on it.

Thank u Lea for teaching Christy what a truly classy lady does when she attends a charity event, and that's make a donation(although I believe the lesson went totally over her head).

You were totally inappropriate on so many levels I just have to say I feel sorry for you.

I have a feeling that some of the ladies want to make you the villain-ette hence their comments about your jokes. Why do some women do that? You point out another's bad behavior and instead of her owning up to it, apologizing sincerely, she has to make you the bad girl. Not working here! You still are a hoot in my book.

I didn't think the joke was THAT bad. I just thought your timing was off. Maybe if you would have said a few kind words first and shown genuine happiness for her, the joke could have come later in the night when the mood was a bit lighter. Anywho, my question really pertains to Adriana. How do you divorce a man with a crapload of loot, but end up with none of it? How does a man who's supposedly rich (and from a rich background), get away with not paying support for his child?? I think instead of having a fundraiser for private school, work on getting the $ that is rightfully theirs'. Save the fundraisers for those who actually need the $ to survive!

Lea we loved you last night-you seem like such a good friend and Adriana is very fortunate to have you in her life as I am sure so many others are as well. You are a joy to watch! We are ready for the next episode!

Once again-- we loved the show last night and enjoyed you the most! You seem like the most compasionate person on the show... maybe the other ladies will learn from you!! Take care Ms. Lea

These "housewives" keep getting worse and worse.

One group is worse than the next. Not sure if these women believe that the audience admires them...well, we don't - we laugh at them.

To quote the NYC housewives - "money don't buy you class" (or manners and intelligence).

Lea is the worse - rude and catty. Followed closely by Cristy and Adriana.

Maybe yo should hang arround american people of west palm beach and NOT CUBAN PEOPLE, if you live in Miami you know roasted pig or as us CUBANS call it "LECHON" is our typical cuban dish, delicious i might add, to whoever wrote that you acted like it was cute or funny and good for you for putting up a brave front? OH PLEASE! its a roasted pig ! you know what was really awful and rude was the comment to Marysol , you say it's an inside joke? because its Miami? well rude is rude ANYWHERE you say it!! NOW ''LECHON' THAT'S A MIAMI THING AND A CUBAN THING!!!!

I was disgusting with the whole pig slaughter! Shame on you Bravo for showing that, if I want to see something like that, I'll go to the Discovery channel. I only lasted 7 minutes, then flipped the channel.

I think you acted in a very immature manner regarding the pig. It is a cultural tradition and no big deal. It didn't bother me at all and I think the mark of class is to be able to be accepting of people's differences and cultural norms. We as Americans may do things that others find strange and different but we expect them to adapt to us so we should know how to act in a mature manner. You didn't have to eat it but the scene you made made you look ignorant and very immature which was very surprising to me.

Lea, as a former Miamian who now lives in the NE, just wanted to let you know that your show is my new guilty pleasure. You are my favorite of the housewives and a mutual friend of my fave person, Lourdes A. Good luck, hope its a success!

I like you; but last night for the people outside Miami that's not in on the inside humor; you came off rude, one not respecting the fact that your were a guest and these people went out of their way to prepare a nice meal for everyone; you should have showed more grace and not so much drama. I think your jokes should have been tamed; this was a special announcement by Marisol and you kinda of ruined the moment.

As a guest Lea needed to be polite she lives in Miami Cubans eat pork and they roast a whole pork sorry it's our culture. She was a guest and had other options to choose from besides the meat.

Lea - Where did you leave your good manners? Back here in Texas? You were disrespectful to another's cultural traditions......you should have kept your thoughts about roasted pig to yourself....you didn't have to eat it, there were other things on the menu. And the green card joke was in very poor taste. I am not at all impressed with you so far......I don't think you represent the Texas ladies very well. Brush up on your manners, Lea, and think before you open your mouth. As the countess says "money doesn't buy class".

As a native Miamian now living in a different state, I look forward to watching RHOM every week to get a peek at what you ladies are up to in my old stomping ground. There are few cities as beautiful as Miami to film a show in and it is showcased so well!

I am so glad they cast you, Lea, as you are surprisingly unpretentious, hilarious, smart, self-effacing and a refreshing alternative to the standard Real Housewife cast member. 'BRAVO' to Bravo for having you on the show!!!!

I admire that you desire to help others and that you have people that you do help, but one must wonder, do you do it for them or yourself? The most selfless people I know do not feel the need to flaunt "everything they do for others". It seems like you want credit for who Adriana is and what she has accomplished. A real friend would help without the need for all of America knowing everything you do behind the scenes.

Hi Lea, I truly admire that you give back to the community and your friends. What I don't understand is why you constantly have to have credit for doing so. I feel like you want to take credit for who Adriana is and what she has accomplished. I think most successful people have had a helping hand throughout their career that has helped them at one time or another, including you. I think the most truly selfless people help others without the need of the recognition for their good doings.

i hope you never watch " the travel channel" because everyday they go to different states in usa to show how to cook barbecue pigs . that's really normal in USA too !!!!! hellooooooooo!

Lea,

You don't eat meat, but you wear fur? That is very hypocritical. The animals used to make furs are skinned alive! You were very rude at the party not only towards your hosts but also to Marysol as well. I guess money can't buy you class!

I understand the humor of your joke and being from Miami myself believe me I would have thought the same thing, but I would not have blurted it out like that. At least Marysol did not flip a table at you or stood there looking crazy at you eating gummy bears.... LOL! But I was waiting for her to pull her electronic cigarette to start puffing away and tell you about your future.....

You are so smart, it is hard to argue.. You know what, you rock! I just think that "barbarian" was to see the pig at the slaughter house alive and bring him home dead, but not to cut him or butcher him when he is ready to be served, LOL.. You should have tried a little piece, I am sure you would have enjoyed. I hope one day you "collect" me too, fairy godmother! Beijos!

Still like you... but that green card comment was horrible. I don't think anyone at the party thought it funny either, they looked embarrassed. No excuse to be on your Blackberry, it is insulting to the people you are around. You are an amazing friend to Adrianna.

Lea: You are so refreshing on this series. There has never been another housewife that has been so practical and honest. You seem very genuine - I love that you speak your mind and you seem to have a big heart. And what is with your trying on clothes over your own clothes? Or allotting twenty minutes for your shopping spree? You make me laugh!

Well just make sure you know who are real friends to be a "fairy godmother" too and who is just using you.

I didnt know I could love you any more than I already do ... and then you say on the show that youre a vegetarian!!!! (I am too) Each week I become an even bigger fan of yours. Keep up all the great work. PS: I found it so refreshing that you hate shopping. You are not a cookie cutter housewife and I think that makes you really fun to watch. xoxo

I am sure Adriana appreciates your help ... but do not take all the credit for her fame - I am sure her exposure on Bravo is the real boost !!

Really enjoyed the show and The Shopping scene! Who was that GORGEOUS friend of yours? Lourdes ? You should have her on more often ! And even if you like your jeans, Lourdes had some great tips...

I think you showed very little class at the dinner party. I understand that you dont eat meat but you simply could have just passed on the pork and keep it moving. I think you were very rude and the drama was over the top. Not every joke is funny and there is a time and place to joke, Your joke about the green card was not funny, and it sure as heck was not the appropriate time. I hate when someone says something rude or mean and then says its just a joke, your "friend" was annoucing her engagement why not let her have her moment instead you kept repeating you tired joke and didnt even get the hint the way everyone was looking at you and asking if you were drunk, maybe you didnt have to many drinks but take a hint when people keep asking you are you drink or how much did you have to drink 9 times out of 10 its because you are making an ass of your self. Your true self is starting to come out and it doesnt look good you look like you are entirely to old to act this way. Guess money CANT but you class.

I would have reacted the same way if I were at a party where they cooked a poor whole pig. In fact I would have left! I can't believe that Bravo actually aired something so disgusting! I applaud you for your reaction! Not sorry Marysol got sick after eating the pig. It makes me sick to see her eat like that. I agree with your reaction to Christy crashing your event also. You and Adriana are my favorites!!!!!

Your genuine concern and desire to help Adriana was touching. It was a nice calm change from all the show's drama. Although that's fun, too! Looking forward to next week!

You are from Texas, right? So, have you never been to a 'real Texas BBQ'? The way you acted was so childish. I'd bet Herman can roast a delish pig! As well as you 'joke'....I really wanted to like you. I had hoped that you would be the Lisa (from BH) for Miami, but alas you have no class.

Why so up in arms about the pig? Weren't those leather shoes and handbags we see you wearing?

DEAR MISS MANNERS, As the etiquette expert on the RHOM, I had much higher expectations of you. Why is that you understand the proper etiquette and responsibilities of a patron to a charity event, and how they must pay to play, BUT....come to someone's home as an invited dinner GUEST and don't know proper dinner guest decorum?? HOW COULD YOU insult the host and hostess with comments about the ethnic food? Seriously, Mrs. Black. It was just a pig roast. Open the chapter on dinner parties in your etiquette book, the chapter after fund-raisers, and you will see that one does not berate the host's choice of food offered, but rather accepts the food with a smile, and adheres to one's dietary restrictions without complaining. Did you have to make such a ridiculous deal about the whole thing? Geeeeeze!

Lea, I was glad to see that someone could see the barbaric cruelty disguised as a pig party. It's disgusting to see people blame their inhumane behavior on "tradition" and "history". Do they think we should bring slavery back because it was part of our own American history? I thought you showed class and the ability to think independently. Bravo Lea!

Well said! I like many aspects of Lea but she is definitely a busy-body who likes to run the show. When someone has something important to announce, such as baby news or an engagement, that is NOT the time for jokes. A true lady knows when it's time to keep her mouth closed.

Or a voice to sing with.

Hey Lea since your husband is a top lawyer, why can't he help Adriana get the money she deserves from her divorce?

i love Lea and i cant believe they showed that poor pig alive then killed it and then cooked IT WAS DISGUSTING to say the least Did they have to show it i am still debating if i want to keep watching becuz of the pig slaughter !!!!!!!!! Lea you go girl tell them the way it is i thought i liked Alexia but after the pig massacre im not so sure Is this what the classy miami ladies do in their spare time Please!!!!!Yuk!!!!!!!! culture or not it didnt have to be shown Explicitely and ps larsa needs to get over her self

haha people are so dramatic... they don't get your sense of humor. Dont take life so seriously! Lea is a great person, she loves to help others which is admirable, but now and then slips and a tells a joke.. SO WHat? people mess up all the time, she probably just wanted to be funny and wouldn't think it was a big deal! WE LOVE U LEA!

You took the words right out of my mouth. Lea was so rude and tacky. I agree with Countess.

All i can say about Lea Black is that she has no manners or style and i won't be watching the housewives of miami after the last episode. BOMB.

This was the 1st time I watched this show. it caught my attention when I saw the preparation of the pig. Which in my custom is called lechon. So as I started watching this show I couldn't believe your behavior, it was outlandish, tacky, rude and mean spirited. It's a contradiction of the good you do. Part of being a good human being is taming your tongue and as the famous quote goes "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all" There was no reason for you to be so disrespectful to the people who took the time to invite you. I would have asked you leave. Plain rude I agree with Countess " Money doesn't buy class"

You my dear are my favorite on the show. I absolutely adore your loyalty, concern and support for Adriana. Good friends are certainly hard to cultivate – you set a great example. Admirable about you as well is your down –to-earth fashion – you’re confident and don’t need to wear designer duds to show it. I think many may have taken the “green card” issue too seriously; they clearly need to develop a back bone and understand where you are coming from. You will persevere in all that you do. Keep it coming – you’re the best.

Noticed some of the posts mentioned money, etc. Lea was a financial powerhouse on her own before she met her husband.

She did not go to Florida to meet and marry a rich man. How many of these gals can say the same.......

Lea you are a "hoot and a half" we love you! Don't listen to people that don't get you... you are the one that keeps us watching! Besides looks like you are the one that contributes to society in this show! Keep on- keeping on! We love you in this house!
