I need a glass of red wine before I can even begin writing this blog. Chianti is appropriate, I think, because if things get any more heated we're going to need a side order of fava beans and someone's liver to go with that. Oh my Jersey girls ... what is going ON? Holy hair-weave-on-a-head. Well, off a head, as it turns out. WOW. I was with Caroline, Teresa and Jacqueline earlier this week and because my blog was an episode behind didn't discuss any of this, but I have to say my jaw was on the floor in places. But before we get to the hair pulling...
Caroline is in such pain with Albie's law school situation, and I understand that completely. If it were one of my sons, I’d want to sue the school. Why wasn't he able to get the support he needed for his learning disability? Clearly at least one person at the school knew he needed it. If, with services, grades didn’t improve, that's one thing. If no help was available, that’s another. Given that assistance was available but Albie was not able to receive it, there’s no opportunity for improvement and that isn’t fair. Part of me wants to say more about this but I’m going to hold off for now. One thing I will say though, is that the tenacity Albie has displayed in working through this is a good quality to have if you’re a lawyer.
What the heck happened in Posche? Sidebar, can I just say that every time I type that I mistype Porsche? Is that meant to be subliminal? She doesn't sell cars. Anyway....Danielle walked into the boutique and didn't recognize the girl behind the desk. Here's what we don't know – how long she stood there while the girl was on the phone. Here’s what we do know – Danielle slapped her bag down on the counter and looked impatient. I've answered my share of phones at various college jobs, and if someone slapped their bag on the desk in a huff and it wasn't Hillary Clinton or Isaac Mizrahi, bag slapping would not make me get off the phone faster. If someone is on the phone and signals to you that they'll be with you in a moment, that doesn't automatically make them rude or disrespectful. That makes them a multitasker. In Danielle's world, multitasking is apparently offensive.
Here's my favorite moment of episode 9 – the 6,000 expressions crossing Albert's face when Caroline asked him to retire. When you get a reaction like that, it's reality TV magic, and when they went out to dinner, I understood completely Caroline's rationale that she wouldn't cancel plans with her husband to get involved in nonsense. That's why I always had Simon with me in season one! Speaking of Caroline, I was really proud that she had an open mind about the Posche fashion show and suggested that the girls go ahead and attend. It would be nice if all the girls could be at an event and smile, nod and walk away. Of course then they wouldn’t want to film it.
go alex! everyone loved you last season. i totally agree with you about the new jersey cast. are they trying to make jersey's reputation even worse? thank you for seeing teresa's act for what it is.
I'm not one for posting comments but I just have to say, I absolutely think you're wonderful. It took me awhile to warm up to you and Simon but the both of you have proven to be truly classy and genuine. I love your honesty. It's refreshing to see that there are still good people out there.
I love how you tell it like it ACTUALLY IS and not how certain women choose to remember the events. Keep posting!
Very well written, Alex. I only found one part I did not agree with in your blog. You wrote about Teresa and her husband sharing wine and her telling him what "really" happened but that was not quite right. If youare able watch it again. In all fairness I have watched last week's episode of RHONJ five times all the way through. I saw Teresa candy coating the tale when she was talking to her husband about it. I am beginning to think if Teresa tells it that way often enough she will convince herself it is what really happened. Sorry but no, Teresa. Even though she says things like, "Don't I call everyone Honey?" . and, " Aren't I nice to everyone?". Teresa is out for just one purpose. She wants to be the star of the show all on her own. Flipping a table brought her some attention and she needs more of that. The tone she used when calling Danielle Honey was so catty and obviously intended to get Danielle going. Teresa has four little girls who are going to become as crazy as she is if she keeps performing like a bully and a cheap imitation of a woman. Teresa needs to seek some counseling. I happened to watch the episode of RHONY where Jill popped in on the ladies while you were all relaxing on the island. I have never watched a full episode before yet in that one I immediately saw that you are the one real woman there. I hated that Jill made you so uncomfortable you were shaking. Be careful this show does not really bring you to a nervous breakdown. It could happen and you deserve better. These shows are really causing me concern about young girls thinking this is the way for women to behave. It is not in any way real life.
Alex, Regardless of some of the above opinions, I do think that you are level-headed and that you are spot on the majority of the time. Recognizing the emotional train that went on with the RHONY this past season, I did understand why you were physically shaking when Jill came to the Island. It does not negate your personal inner strength and I also know that it takes a very strong spirit just to be around powerful and dynamic women. Just because you speak the loudest doesn't mean that you have something more important to say. Best of luck in your book signings and I can't wait to see what happens next season on RHONY!
Alex. Love your common sense approach to all the Real Housewives shows and especially life in general. This really came out in your book, which I LOVED by the way. I don't think you have a mean bone in your body. It is nice that we get to see more of your personality as your show continues. I met you and Simon and your boys at your book signing in Boston. What a wonderful time I had. You and Simon are great. I am envious of your families, friends and neighbors. As a side note, your Boston appearance was poorly advertised. Not only was there no sign outside the store, but on the morning of the signing, some of the employees weren't notified that you were coming that day. But fortunatly, I got there early enough to get a good seat. Best wishes.
Nice analysis, Alex- and well written! You are more intelligent and mature than all the NJs put together.
Alex i just love you and Simon and your kids so much you have a beautiful family and please do not listen to any negative things that has been said about you channeling the devil and about Simon been in the closet as long as you guys are happy and in love that is all that matters and also about your parenting skills you guys are good parents and people are just jealous you are one classy lady and i can not wait to watch you next season oh and Teresa Alex might be able to teach you a few things about been classy okay you need a make over both inside and out.
Good point of view from someone who is watching everyone's drama on the tube, and had some of the drama on her show! That is true when people think they are entitled to be impatient with multitasking people.
What can I say Alex you are a true friend and see the good and bad in people! LOve you, your just a great person all around!!!
These Jersey "ladies" could really use someone of your intellect and grace to guide them - all of them.
I always enjoy reading your blogs; you are so incredibly articulate and insightful. Quite the opposite after reading a Jacqueline, Teresa and/or Ashley blog.. After reading one of those, it becomes obvious that I've killed a few brain cells!
Alex McCord: Love your blog. I must say the RHONYC show is miles and miles better than the New Jersey edition
Alex, you have become one of my favorites of the NY housewives over time. HOWEVER, it is obvious that the friendship that you may have with the other girls have jaded your perception of what happened. It sounds like you saw the same thing we (viewers) saw, so how in the world is it that you can attempt to assign so much fault to Danielle, when what WE saw made it evident that Teresa started this one. I do not care if Danielle and her table stared at them until they sank into the ground, she did not lay her hands on them. She never SAID anything to them either. Teresa got everything she was looking for UNTIL, Danielle brought up the foreclosure (which was a true statement), and Teresa (from Patterson) got embarrassed. As for Caroline’s son I sympathize with his circumstances but the viewers have to understand that what he experienced is common. As an attorney I myself saw many classmates get academically dismissed. It’s unfortunate but law school is tough and it’s not for everyone. IF his school was made aware of his disability then they should have accommodated him. There are so many facts that we do not know however I think that Albies best option is to take the 505 letter and re-apply in two years. I think the publicity of the show will only make the situation worse.
In some bizarre way, I see you and Teresa as sort of kindred spirits -- two women who love to play up their busy hands-on Mom images, but who actually seem to spend a LOT of time attacking women they don't like, even when it's not timely, constructive, or any of your business. In your case, you went from the funky smart Brooklyn Mom to a woman who is so desperate to be friends with the cool girl (i.e. Bethenny) that you seem to have lost some of your humanity. I agree in that Ashley's excuse seemed fishy -- just as fishy as you shaking and trembling at pedicure time when Jill showed up. Puh-leeze...
I watched this last episode about three times. Clearly Danielle wanted attention. However, Teresas was waiting for Danielle to come out so she could face her and ask her questions. Teresas was lying and waiting. And when Teresas went home and told her husband, she bragged about how she faced Danielle and was trying to impress her husband. Teresas needs to learn how to act in public. She acts like she is with the mob or something. One day she will get smacked down. It won't be her wallet either. love you on NY
Alex, I love your level-head approach to life! You and I could have written the same blog -- had the same impressions. Love you, Ramona and Bethenny on Housewives of NYC! I don't know what happened to Jill this season, but she seems very conflicted. Stay true to yourself, and everything will work out great.
OH ALEX...STOP IT! This blog was very disapointing and you know good and well that Teresa started the fight. As we all know Danielle wasnt innocent and said and did some really cruel things during the fashion show. However, she clearly wasnt the cause of all the things that went on after that. Then you try to clean up Ashley pulling the weave, saying that we didnt see what really could have happened, because of the editing. Its obvious this blog was all about your hate for Danielle and love for the MEAN GYRLS who are Teresa and the gang....
can Danielle & the crazy one (can't think of her name) from your show, have their own show; then leave NYC & NJ alone
You are the best Alex, your honesty, humor, and that you stand up for yourself. Go girl, don't let Jill or crazy Kelly step on you ever again !!!
I think your a very nice person and I love watching on the show. You do have so much class. When you are friends with a person your seem to be a great friend
I have always liked your presence on RHONY, and sense you are a genuine person. I'm a viewer who somehow (via tv) seems feel personally involved with "y'all girls". I realize we only see bits and parts of your lives, but your truth shines through. I appreciate your kindness towards everyone. I appreciate your fierce loyalty to Bethany, and for learning to stand up for yourself more. That being said, I see nothing but success for your future. Never mind the little bumps you will get along the way, you have a sincere and lasting spirit. How do I know? I am a professional psychic medium. LOL, I know these things. :)
I completely agree with Alex. I feel that Ashley should not be involved in grown folks business let the parents deal with it. Keep writing Alex cause you have sense to tell it like it is =)
Alex, you are truly one of my favorites. You are a level headed Lady.I do wish you would let Jill and Bethany work out what they need to by their self's. I feel if you were a true Friend to Bethany and want's only the the best for her. Jill and Bethany were the the best of friends. I come from a large family five sisters in all,and we to fought with each other (girls do that) everyone of us love each other as best friends. all it takes is time and care and love to over come a disagreement. you would have to agree with me the best thing for the both of them is if they had someone standing in their corner with a silence voice. Alex i feel your much to classy to get in the middle of any of that drama. Please keep up the good work.
I think your blogs are extremely extremely well written. Your point about Ashley learning from her mistakes is spot on. I also hope this is a wake up call for her. I wish you continued success and hapiness in life.
Alex, I absolutely love your posts. Love the side bars and humor you add ! You have to come back to RHONY next season. I have loved you and Bethenney from the start but now Ramona has grown on me and I love her too (and yes, I see her whole "renewal" process and I'm so proud of who she has become. The RHONJ are my faves when the NY season ends. Caroline is the bomb !She is such a special lady, Theresa is just hilarious and keeps me laughing. Jaqueline reminds me a lot of you. She is very quiet but the she has that fun little quirky side that just makes me want to hang out with her. They'll sort it all out just like you ladies did even if sorting out means you never want to see each other again !!! God bless you and family and Bethenney and her new precious family. UTVolgirl
Wow Alex way off the mark with this blog. Is it because you were with the girls you are defending T? She was clearly in the wrong. And if she doesn't like her financial problems being "out" she shouldn't be on tv flaunting her "wealth". Obviously Ashley has problems and needs help. How can you defend her behavior?
Hi Alex! I also love your blogs! Honestly, you irritated me a lot on season one but ever since then I have become a HUGE Alex fan! I love the changes and I hope you stay this way. I will keep reminding myself, Don't listen to the Well Meaning Morons. LOL! Great line! Keep 'em comin!
Love your blog! Can't wait to see you next season. Also, the dress you wore for Bethenny's wedding was beautiful.
I don't agree with your assessment of the situation at all. You are defending Teresa's actions. Just because Danielle said her house in in foreclosure, doesn't give Teresa the license to act like a psycho. If she had any class, she would have told her she has no idea what she is talkign about, etc. Teresa looked like a rabid chinchilla running around in her heels. Ha! Now that is a great line! Anyway, I am very disappointed in you defending the crazy teresa, jacqueline and totally dissing Danielle. Everybody knows D has problems and needs help. These other girls claim to be normal and are acting like such low-down dirtbags.
I agree with you totally, Alex of all people should know how it feels when someone goes out their way to dismiss or ignore you. That saleswoman knew exactly what she was doing. I too have been a recepotionist and when I am on a call, and someone arrived at my desk; I would tell the caller please hold I will get back to you; I then acknowledge the person that just walked into the reception area and ask how could I assist them, if I find what that person is needed is at length, i will let the parton know I will finish up the call so that you can have my full attention do you mind. The parton always says yes unless it is an emergency.
That woman did not do that, she purposely when out her way to make Danielle feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Anyone with a brain could see that!
Alex, I'm a big fan of yours! I love watching all the housewives series. I guess because I have a nice, boring, drama-free life, lol. I can watch you all and shake my head at some things, and laugh at others. I like you, Bethany, and Ramona the best. I don't like Jill or Luann.
It is time for you to stop blogging. Respectfully, I truly hope that you won't come back for season four. Again, respectfully I think you are a sneak.
The best for your family
You are simply devine. You and Simon are a great couple. I love your blogs and think you and Caroline (HWNJ) are very similar in personality. Tell Bethany I am very happy for her and Jason. May you all have a healthy and happy summer. Look forward to next season.
Great response to Monday's show, Alex. I heard this morning on the news that Danielle has filed charges against Ashley and Teresa. Her behavior further shows her desire for fame no matter whom she brings down during her quest for stardom, including her own daughters. Alex, keep up the good work.
Danielle is not crazy but is always in the defense! She has so many attacks from all directions!
She has gone through a divorce, raising to young women and all of that trash exposed on national television! What was the intent behind that? I am sure that Caroline, Dina, Teresa and Jacqueline only wanted to hurt her over and over and over again!
I have had enough of these women! It is too painful to watch them!
Alex, I don't know how you do it. You are so articulate and clever; I really enjoy your blogs. Could be because your opinions generally echo mine but also because you are a talented writer. You display a compassion for others that is often lacking in any of the Real Housewives series. Of all the ladies on all different shows, you seem the most earnest about seeking understanding of others. I still remember one of your comments to Bethany, said without judgement: "if that's the way you're going to roll, that's the way you're going to roll." ha! As if to say, I didn't appreciate it, but if that's the way you are, I accept it because I accept you and whatever our relationship is (friendly/merely acquaintances/be more on guard/etc). It is so odd to see grown women so incapable of getting along! If all the ladies practiced what they preached and stopped doing the things they accuse the others of doing... well, then I guess the show would be more fun? Viewers might actually like all the cast? Hmmmm....
Your clarity is honest and refreshing. I am curious though, are you truly able to understand Teresa? I am not sure I would condone chasing folks down cursing at them in an effort to literally intimidate and instill fear. That doesn't seem to be an appropriate choice.
Alex, I agree with your fans you are a healthy dose of reality in this reality show. I do wish someone in this franchise would see this most recent episode of RHONJ and say that Danielle clearly is an unstable person with mental issues who is being made worse by being on this show - that's exploitation. Kelly got to a similar place on the island. But when Danielle was breaking down I don't think it's right to say "I think this is a little OTT." It is over the top it's because she's got major issues that are being escalated by the show. She's sobbing in the bushes cause she may honestly think the other women are going to kill or hurt her which is clearly delusional. It's five steps past Kelly's mental instability. I love the show, but when things like this happen I really feel like I'm watching the nouveau riche equivalent of COPS - and we the audience are complicit in that too. I know you can't really say "the show went too far this is exploitation" but since I respect you - I thought I'd say it on your blog.
Alex, I love your blogs! You always keep it straight forward and honest and I admire your perspective. It has mead me a bigger fan of yours.... and Simon's! Have a great summer and best wishes on your book & tour!
alex you said enough good job right on point i think there is something a little weird with ashley and she needs counseling really bad it's weird i just cant put my finger on it bye for good seeing you in betthany
Alex!!! I love your blogs!!! (Your a very good writer LOL) Anywayss...I totally agree with you ..Keep being amazing!!! God Bless you and your family!
I would think of all people, you would have quickly realized that the mean girl in "high school" during these last couple episodes was clearly Teresa. I usually agree with you but I think you need to watch it again. Teresa is an undercover bully! I truly did used to like her. Besides, she should be more worried about her finances than Danielle...it's a shame to see her spend money they don't have while people like you and I have to pay for it!!!
Alex usually I agree with your blogs, but this time I hope you understand and we can agree not to agree and I am still your fan! Love me some NYHWs, that show is my fav. The first thing I have to say is the salesgirl at Posche. When Danielle came in, clearly the cameras were set up and ready to film. I mean, come on. So the sales girl knew up front that she was coming in the door. I watched her keep her head down. Now when I sold retail, I recall that the moment a customer walks into the area, we had to acknowledge them. I don't care who we were on the phone with. This woman did not do that, in fact, she kept her head down as if purposely wanting to say to Danielle "you aren't important". Well, just the fact she walked into the store should have made her important to the store. Then the woman said, "didn't catch your name", when she went out...now here is what I believe..since camera crew was there before Danielle came in, why wouldn't Danielle assume that this sales woman (way too old to be a rude person) knew her name. Then the woman tried to say she didn't catch her name. Why did she think a camera crew set up in front of her desk? Ok, I know this is supposed to be drama and all, but I think viewers really do want a little realism since it is being called a reality show. And as for Ashley. I believe that once a cast member exhibits violence or a behavior that is demeaning to another human being, it should be mandatory that they come off the show. Putting hands on another person is never ok when there is no consent. The camera's clearly showed Ashley calm and collected just seconds before she was seen approaching a very stressed out Danielle. In my mind, it would be like having a panic attack for being in a closed tight space and having someone come up to you and wrap their arms around you tightly. That would be the last thing you would want or need, and in fact, would make the anxiety worse.. So that is why I disagree, it seems that no matter how many people that watch that episode, we will all get something else out of it...I really would love to see new HWs in NJ next year, but you ladies in NY, we love ya!
Alex, you are truly a gem! I was appalled at the "riot" that ensued at last weeks episode! No one attacked Danielle! Danielle ran down the hall, through the dining room, out the front door and promptly hid around the corner where she promptly became hysterical and hyperventilated! What a mess! She needs to be excised from that show just like Kelly needs to be excised from the HWNYC show! She is clearly over reacting to the situation, which granted was quite unpleasant, but she brought it on herself!! Hanging around with ex-cons and other unseemly characters only serves to make her look just as unseemly! She needs to find a better group of people to hang out with -- one that does not include convicted felons, two faced women, etc. Ashley needs to snap into reality and understand that her behavior can get her put in the slammer and that will gain her Danielle status! Is that what she really wants? She has lowered herself to Danielle's level by all this nonsense with Facebook, pulling her hair, and the faces she was making at Danielle at the fasion show. That was not acceptable behavior. In public we sometimes have to overlook a few things around us and Ashley needed to do that at the fashion show. Poor Kim D, her fashion show was ruined and yet she was smiling in the end. Go home Danielle and stay there. Ashley, pull up your big girl panties and find something positive to do! Kim G needs to decide whose side she is on and stay there instead of waffling back and forth! Jacqueline should let Ashley fight her own battles and suffer the consequences. She can visit her in jail! Teresa, well she really did try to be civil. It was Danielle that set everything off! My oh my! Where are the grown ups???
Love your blog Alex, thank you for posting your comments on this show even on your off season, hope you get some down time with Simon & those two cutie patooti's of yours:):)
I as you have seen some fault in both Teresa & Ashley's behaiviour but Danielle is just to much, she has certainly pushed them to this boiling point. The comment Bad Behaviour Deserves Consequences made me laugh at my screen aloud, I think Danielle better hope that doesn't happen to her or she will be facing a lifetime of consequences, she has behaved badly almost her entire life. Just Saying:):)
Again thanks for posting a blog, have a wonderful summer with your family. Please pass one viewers (mine) warm regards onto Bethanny, I have been watching her spin off. Let her know she has shown so many woman that they can find love & happiness, even children (I personally say NO WAY!!) after 40.
Warm Regards, Kelly email@example.com
