There were no surprises tonight. Drama? Oh yes, there was a lot of drama. But everyone behaved pretty much exactly as I’d expect given the circumstances.
Teresa threw a christening and Joe was cranky – rewinding to autumn of 2009 when this would have been filmed it’s no wonder he wasn’t thrilled about the expense of the party. I do understand wanting your baby to be a star for a day, but ice sculptures? Maybe I’m being cranky too, but I just don’t like ice sculptures. Or long christening dresses. Or baby buggys with gauze. Or huge parties that look expensive when the financial wolves must have been howling at the door. Joe clearly wasn’t happy. OK, here’s what I did like about the party. Liked everyone crying over the first dance – that was the best part of it for me and when Joe softened up too. I loved seeing Dina, and seeing everyone fussing over the baby, including her big sisters. Also enjoyed seeing Christopher handle his first big event.
Taking your daughter to the OB GYN is a great thing to do, though probably that wasn’t really the first time she’d been to the doc – isn’t 13 or 14 about right? The one thing I’d say is that telling a kid to abstain when there is no cultural or religious precedent is a hard sell. Hope there was more to the conversation than that.
Can we discuss for a moment why Kim G. has sweeping camera shots of her house? I thought only housewives had those….hmm…. After the sweeping shot, we are treated to her asking Christopher to broker a lunch date with Caroline. Why? How shortsighted is that? Sure, it’s a great idea for a mother to interrupt her son’s pool match and ask his long time friend about why his mother won’t have lunch with you. What’s more important, letting the son have his friendship or her need to be in the middle? Or is it just her need for camera time? Why do people pleasers always need to be liked? When you realize you can’t please everyone, the feeling of relief is very pleasant.
Onto the birth mother search. I don’t think any adoptee searching for their biological mom should assume it’s going to be happy and heartwarming, or a breakthrough. I sincerely hope Danielle doesn’t attach too much feeling to that and get her heart broken.
Alex, you are always the voice of reason. THANK YOU FOR BLOGGING! You see what we see (the sane portion of the population, anyway.)
Can't wait to see your views of D.C.??
I agree with you on all points.
Dear producers, if you add Kim G to the cast to "replace" Dina-- i will stop watching. She is not fun to watch. She is annoying. Money can't buy you class, and it can't buy you a reality show.
We are guessing you're pregnant, or is it a new book? As always, enjoy your comments. Haven't seen you on Bethenny's show lately, you need to see the baby!
"Jacqueline was so flustered she put Nicholas in the silverware drawer"
Too funny! I was also concerned where he was, glad to see him safe.
Alex you and Simon are awesome!!!!! I think you guys and Bethany are very real not like the other's.
Note to producer: I have stopped watching the New Jersey housewives. I'm all about reality TV and drama, but Danielle and her story vs. Teresa & Jacqueline & Ashley are WAYYYY too much for me. I hope the other Real Housewives shows don't turn into New Jersey. It's just not fun anymore.
Wow, what a change in you! I Love you! you finally came out of your shell!!! I'm happy to see that your doing well, and hope to see more of your standing up for yourself! It's nice to see you and Bethenny are alot closer, of course, I think we all have finally seen Jill's true colors! It's sad! Always your cheerleader! Lori :)
I love you Alex, what a great insight. However to BRAVO I am getting so tired of Danielle. I want to scream...grrrr I do love Dina and Teresa. Please bring Dina back. Good luck Alex on your big announcement I do hope it is a baby girl is on the way. You and Simon and the boys need a girl..hahah Thanks for the spot on over view. Can't wait to see more of you.
Alex, I miss you and the New York ladies. Danielle has just become too bizarre to watch. Every time I see her "friend", Danny or one of her other thugs I want to throw up. I had a feeling when Dina left that Kim G. was going to be her replacement. She's nothing like Dina and she won't be able to fill the void that Dina left. Since she and Danielle aren't friends any more and the other ladies don't trust her, I don't see what her storyline will be. I just hope we won't see her on the pole again!
Alex you are a true lady and miss seeing you and your family.
What you wrote is 100% correct and I could not agree with you more.
Whatever your good news is - good luck.
I enjoy your insight into this drama of a season, especially of Danielle. It's good to know that I'm the only one who thinks she's a drama queen who twists everything that everyone says and blows every thing out of proportion.
Hi Alex, I've always loved you on RHONY and also loved your blogs this past season. However, some of your recent New Jersey guest blogs have rubbed me the wrong way because we saw things differently. However, with this blog you are back on track. Good job! I think it's because Ashley wasn't in this episode really and it's hard for you to call her out so this time you didn't have to. Can't wait to hear your news this week :)
Alex, Who ever thought the voice of reason could be so clever. We love you in the Pacific Northwest - you go girl!
The voice of reason...again. I do enjoy watching you, Bethenny, and most times Ramona. She seems less selfish than before. And I enjoy watching Caroline, Dina, Jacqueline, and Teresa. The rest of the villians and trouble makers and psycos are not interesting. Hopefully Bravo will realize that real people like real people. Thanks for demonstrating the meaning of "Class".
Alex! Love you, girl! When are they going to give YOU your own show?! You are witty and humorous, with a great style sense... oh, and your a working mother of two! Its tough to juggle kids, a household, a husband and still look fabulous at the same time! Congratulations on all of your successes!
me too!!! i wondered where baby nicholas went! one minute he was there, the next minute, he's gone! and then he's back.
language! language! language!
probably because i saw jacqueline's tweet before going to bed so i am forgiving of mrs. g. it might just be danielle who leaked that birth mama search around... meantime, doesn't danielle's face remind you of the Joker?!?!?!
Alex....Love You..your blogs are so refreshing...I enjoy reading them so much...Can't wait to see you with yur family on RHNYC...Miss you and Simon and of course the boys... You are RIGHT on all accounts...
You and Simon are my favorites on the Housewives shows. Your blog is intelligent
and easily understood. I love New York housewives and find the Jersey upsetting and
mean spirited. You are wonderful!
This is for "ANNIE A"....Alex needs to see the baby?...Really?...LOL... Do you suppose that NOT every momemt of Alex or Bethenny's lives are NOT on TV?
Wow, get a grip!
PS: Luv Ya Alex!
Just my favorite housewife, Alex!! Always sensible, graceful....right on target. We'll be looking forward to your good news. Oh yeah, you can live in my neighborhood any day.
Love your blog! you are right in all points. I need to understand something about Danielle though, what is the mentality of making a confidential statement to anyone in front of a camera? and how can you be upset when the statement gets around? I just don't get it
Love your guest blog - ahhhhh, the sound of sanity! Hope your news this week is that you're coming back to RHONY!!!
RIGHT ON Alex... And your so right about Tereas spending ALL that money that she don't have. POOR JOE.he's already over weight and lots of stress he looks like he would have a heart attack.
Just a comment about the age of first OB appt for a teen girl - our pediatrician didn't recommend it until needed, and if not needed then before heading to college. Just my two cents :-)
Alex , agree with you on all points. Just want to let you know I really miss you and Simon. You and Bethenny are my favorites out of everyone on all of the shows , I just would like to see you more. Can't wait to find out your surprise , I'm waiting with baited breath to find out. Take care of yourself and your family.
I really enjoy your writing, Alex. As usual, you're spot-on! I can't stand ice sculptures either. I once read that couples who have ice sculptures at their wedding receptions are more likely to divorce. Yikes! Wonder what this means for Teresa's baby?
Good blog!!..Teresa's husband looked seemly distressed. He has indirectly complained of his wife's spending habits, since season one. This time around he was more direct. Kim "G" is definitely looking for her 15 minutes. I have a funny feeling(every episode) she may be auditioning for Dina's former position. Danielle does not bother me, but the "talk" with Christine would be better suited behind closed door(no cameras).Danny(Bodyguard???) should run like hell. He's been in enough hot water. Dina's presence was breath of fresh air.
I like your blog. Well written and to the point.
I have to tell you that I think you and Jill ought to work things out. I do not like to watch The NYC Housewives in two groups. I really like all of you together. I expect that kind of trashy behavior from the NJ gals but not the NYC ladies. Work it out - it was fun watching Jill and Simon play tennis and watching you guys get along and having fun. Quit being a mean girl - be nice.
wow, alex!! you are ALWAYS on point w/everything!!! I loveeeee reading your blogs!! You make the most sence out of things!! Well,u and Caroline!! ;)
Alex- 13 or 14 for a first ob/gyn visit, I hope not, or is this a NY thing. 13 or 14 is 7th grade! Good thing you have boys. Can you imagine your boys getting lucky at 13- I know it happens but I do not think it is the norm. I have had my oldest daughter vaccinated and will do the same for my 10 y/o soon, through their pediatrician. I don't think an GYN exam is necessary until the are ready for sex and hopefully you know your child well enough to see they are heading in that direction. Give them the information-tell them sex is fun but you should be able & old enough to handle the responsibility & possible consequnces. I am not being prudish I talk about sex to my children from an early age, But I certainly think an OB?GYN exam would be traumatic for alot of 13 year olds. Just sayin.
You are by far my favorite housewife from all shows combined, in fact i still consider it some kind of cosmic freak accident that you are on these shows because you are so smart. Thanks for backing up Danielle. I feel she is in the right too, about the gossip part. I think the ob/gyn thing was questionable on bravos' part but at least they spread awareness about HPV and transmission and that was a great thing, especially to the demographic. Christine seems to have become so much more relaxed on camera and I am so glad, I guess it's the modeling. I don't think Kim G. will be permanent, to but it bluntly there is good crazy and bad crazy ( ala KKB in NY) and she is bad crazy I think. I really hope that you will branch out in the same sense that Bethenny has and find your niche because I think you are adorable, and refreshingly sane. I loved that dress you wore to Bethenny's wedding, it was stunning!
You hit the nail on the head. Danielle is over dramatic with quirky antics whom gets body slammed by Teresa, Jaqueline, Ashley and now Kim G. Kim G. is a has been, two faced, New Jersey housewife wanna be who needs to go. Can't wait for this season to END and I do mean END. Need to develop either a new cast (Carolyn, Dina and 2 other women) or a new city.
what do you think if Kelly and Danielle had their own show? can you imagine how bizarre that would be?! I would need a translator just to let me know what the heck the two of those are talking about!
If you put the words "private reality" together you have one big oxymoron. It just seems ridiculous to me that any person on a reality show who brings up their personal life infront of the camera has the right to get angry about being the topic of a converstation. Your putting it out there for people to talk about, you need to have people talk about or your cancelled. If Kim G talked about the search during taping or seven months later to every person in NJ it does not make a difference when Danielle is talking about it on public television.
Yours is the only blog I read and I'm glad you are taking a more objective look (imo). RHNJ just really needs to end. Christine and her sister are the only ones to root for on this show and they're not housewives. I've quit watching it but if Bethenny has a 2nd season, would love to see you on her show. Probably will watch RHNY which was always my favorite, especially with the two newbies added to the mix.
Dead spot on as usual. Still waiting to see more of you on Bethenny's show. Awwww, come on. Where are you? Maybe coming up on this week's episode? I hope so.
Your blogs are hilarious and spot on! I also wondered where J stashed the baby, and laughed out loud @ the silverware drawer comment.
Alex, thank you for being a 3rd party commenting and not one of their relatives. When is this darn show ending?
To those who think 13 or 14 is too young for the first gyn visit...I am an OB/GYN and I like to meet the younger patients once they start having "that time of the month". (usually around 11-12). A gyn exam is not needed at that time, but the young ladies have a resource to discuss the changes to their bodies, irregularities at that time, and other feminine concerns that they may not feel comfortable discussing with the doctor who used to give them their booster shots (the pediatrician). The gyn exam is not needed until they are 21 or "active", but at least at that point they have already established a relationship with their gyn provider and the experience is not so scary. So Alex, though you do not have girls, that was very intuitive !
