Actions Speak Louder than Words

Kathy thinks attending Teresa's book signing was a step in the right direction for everyone.

By Kathy Wakile

As New Jersey was one of the states hardest hit by Hurricane Irene, I want to start off my saying that my thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been so adversely affected. In my area of Northern N.J. so many neighborhoods have been so severely flooded that the clean-up seems almost insurmountable. Please, everyone, just know there is help out there and there are those of us who do care. In my town, as in most others, there are disaster relief centers set up and everyone should try to take advantage of the help that is being provided.

As I am writing this week and looking back at this episode, I find myself becoming a little philosophical about the events taking place. Overall, I am feeling hope and positive energy.  Very personal and emotional family situations often cloud our ability to see, think, and speak in ways that we would like. Tempers and anger can get the best of us, and we may have a slip of the tongue that we may not be proud of.  Often, our words just come out without even thinking about what the consequences are of what we have said.  It is at these times that I have found that you can depend on having your actions speaking louder than words, and we should lead by example. I feel that going to an event to support your family members when something great is happening for them is the most important thing. It rises above the spoken word. Often we may say something we don’t mean, and you may wish to take back your words, but when you back it up with your actions, you show people that you love them and that your heart is in the right place and you don’t even need the words.

When Teresa called Joey, she was giving him what he was looking for, just a simple invitation. It was clear that it meant so much to him to be asked to come to the book signing, and he backed it up by his actions and of course he was there. That is a great start in the right direction for the two of them to be answering each other with what they were looking for. It felt as if they asked and they received, and it set up a communication start between them that speaks volumes.

I personally was unaware about many of the book signings that Teresa had, but when I found out about this one, I definitely wanted to go and show my support for her. Even though it was an awkward moment for me and I didn’t know how Teresa would react when I arrived, I was so happy that I decided to go, and I could tell that she was happy we were there.  I’m glad Richie encouraged me to drive up in the snow, and it proved that sometimes little gestures like that do go a long way toward reconciliation.  I can always count on Rich to make light of a situation and make a joke in tense circumstances.

Speaking of Rich, how did you like his birthday party at Aladdin? It was such a wonderful night for us. The girls got a chance to embrace a different culture, and it was so gratifying to see everyone having a great time with such open minded enthusiasm. I loved that everyone got up on the dance floor and had fun. For those who had questions about the hookah, you must know that this is not “weed”!  It’s a very mild, sweet, fruity tobacco mixture that can make non-smokers a little light headed on occasion. Also, everyone gets their own plastic tip to have for the evening, so there is no sharing.  Rich and I were just so happy to be able to enjoy these playful moments with our family and friends.

The launch of Lauren’s make-up and beauty bar was terrific to see. She’s very talented. I wish her the best, wherever this takes her. Her future looks great. I was happy to witness Lauren and Ashley working together on the beautiful t-shirt Ashley designed. Family working together is a remarkable thing to see. I am lucky to have snagged one of these shirts myself.

It was over the meadow and through the woods to grandma’s craft room we go for Albie and Chris. Who would have thought that grandma’s house would be the home of their new business venture? Family working with family defines these boys, and they have a balance of talent and personality, and with Uncle Chris’ guiding star, it is on its way. It is so ironic that they have come full circle. I wish them the best. I can’t wait to see what happens.

As for the rest of this episode, I don’t feel a need to comment. Some of this is a little disturbing to me, but the scenes speak for themselves, and there is nothing that I can add to give you any inside information as to what my thoughts are.

Keep watching as events start moving along faster than you might think.

I want to take a minute to give a great big thank you to the belly dancers, especially Jamilah, who also came to my home for “goddess night” and of course the owner of Aladdin Supper Club in Hackensack, New Jersey. Bob Dawli is a dear friend and his gracious hospitality is always an added bonus.

See you all next week.
