Alex McCord

A Brewing Feud

Alex recaps her busy summer and gives her take on the yacht party blowout.

Mar 4, 2010

Ohhh boy, welcome back! Filming this season was a wild ride, and I for one can't wait to see what it's going to look like. So much drama, so many poignant moments, so many times when I felt like my heart was so full it might burst ... or was that my head and eyes?

In between seasons, Simon and I wrote a book together, Little Kids, Big City, which comes out April 6th. It’s about the craziness that goes along with raising young children in the city, with the good, the bad and the downright ugly. We go to places few parents do when it comes to speaking frankly (and sometimes sarcastically) about the frustrating but rewarding full time job of being parents.

When you last saw me (filming the Season 2's Reunion Special), I had been recently laid off from Victoria's Secret corporate, and I felt the newly jobless panic that so many of us did. When you lose your job, the fear and anxiety is overwhelming, regardless of your circumstances. I was one of the lucky ones – I received a good severance package and went into business for myself. These days I work with retail clients doing everything from graphics and event planning to merchandising and store fixtures. Right now I am planning the March opening party for Second Time Around’s newest location in Philadelphia, and running the in-store renovation for Willoughby's Camera, which includes new showrooms for Leica and Pentax. After balancing corporate America with home, family and shooting the show, I’m thrilled to be able to set my own hours and work from home often, though my friends will tell you I definitely work longer hours now!

I agree with you Alex, the Countess should have talked to Mario directly!

Weren't you appalled when Bethenny said she was looking for a new 'JEW' to replace Jill in an E! interview...You were there. You usually speak your mind...It wasn't funny...It was hurtful and offensive.

Alex, it's great to see you! And according to the previews, you really speak your mind, I love it!

Alex, I hope your career goes well. I don't see how you will last any longer on the show myself. You are just above the cattiness and seem to appreciate the small blessings in life. You are more worried about your family than being the popular girl. How can you and Betheny stand it?

I did not see anything wrong with Ramona showing her jewelry either. I mean how is that different than everyone plugging like ALL housewives seem to.

Looks like you are coming into your own with these women. Good for you! In the season previews it shows you saying to Jill she is a mean girl..... of course we don't know the context, but thank you for calling her out! Bravo!

Alex, you look soooo different i was shocked! I think you look amazing, I know last season you seemed to of had your plate full between the house renovations, career issues, etc. I'm assuming things are great because you look 10 years younger! good for you. I find it funny how from season to season our favorites seem to change so much, I'll be honest I was not your biggest fan season 1. which completely changed season 2. you just do your thing and don't get mixed up in the stupid drama with the other wives. I'm a Born and Raised New Yorker (lived in Queens, Brooklyn & presently Midtown).. I find it so amusing that some of the other ladies sometimes comment on the 'Brooklyn' Thing. It's nice that you and Simon get to show real New York living outside of the 'Upper East Side Bubble' it's so boring & redundant! So I hope we see alot more of you this season and really hope you finally tell some of this chicks to get a grip and get over themselves!! best wishesss!!!

You are like the coolest, most chill housewife! I love you :-)

I think you are the most level headed of the crew. You and Simon should make your next book about how to make a relationship work. I hope your kids are more behaved this season, but we only got to see a few pieces of the puzzle so I won't judge too much. I think Simon makes you feel beautiful and works on it. If every man did this, marriages would last longer!!

what are you doing with your hair I LOVE IT it has less frizz please tell me what products you use and what your doing with it!!!! you look great this season!!!!

Wow, your blog makes me want to see the rest of the season NOW!

I always appreciate your perspective!

Alex,

I have always been "wishy-washy" where you and Simon were concerned, but last night you impressed me! You stayed out of the fray.....good girl!

You and Simon are the best! I just love the fact that the two of you are so real and down to earth. I can't wait to read your blogs each week. Looks like this season is going to be a wild one, can't wait for next week!

Your posting came abruptly to an end and wondered if something was inadvertantly left out..

I am waiting with bad breath to find out what happened..!!

Love you and Simon and want to know what you meant with your closing statement..

I absolutely love your and Simons take on the show and your demeanor. Little rattles you because you know who you are and you don't allow others to define you. No matter what is said, even if it may sting, you don't break down and allow it to affect you, because you know its not true and only the other persons issue. You just smile and stay calm, which blows the others minds. You are the best housewife!!! Maybe a little too normal for this messed up bunch

If Jill had a jewelry line, she would have said, "A REAL friend would be supportive of ME and loved that I showed off my new line." Jill hates when good things happen to other people. She's the ultimate mean girl.

I like how you stay out of the drama - although from the clips of the upcoming season and your post maybe that is changing?! I hope you stay the nice girl!! Is Simon going to be on the show?! There was no clip of him shown the whole season!! Can't wait to watch!

You've grown on me Alex, I must say... Congratulations on taking up to your own endeavors and can't wait for the next episode!

Alex,

Well I must say you are one of the most human and easiest to relate to outside of your child rearing.

Which could use some disapline and direction, boundaries and limitations...or you are just going with the flow to get them to a legal age without interupting your life...

Just say NO...it does wonders and creates people who know how to be real and true people and treat others as they should be treated.

Good luck and heed the child rearing info...

I apologize for not giving you enough credit the first season. At the reunion show last year, you were the only one who seems to see things with any clarity. And most importantly, you appear to be the only one with any real manners or class.

Thank you Alex for being the voice of reason; for being so composed. I don't know what has stung Jill and Luann so badly, BUT they're both on the attack. Such negative energy is coming from both of them. They have so much when others are struggling - "HAPPINESS" (Ramona) and more important happy for those around them.

Trying to have my comment posted. Alex, you being the voice of reason and your composure is SO admired

I totally agree with you. I often have to tell people to "speak with my husband" about things that concern him. Even when it has to do with business I just give them his cell number. I think you are going to be the peacemaker this season. And you are definitely the truth teller.

Alex, Working for yourself seems to agree with you!

Alex...I would like to say that I think you are the SANEST one of the bunch..For lord's sake....They all need to WATCH themselves and be ashamed...REAL women do NOT do this!! Friends are supposed to build eachother up...SUPPORT their endeavors...IF my FRIENDS have a business..I will be the FIRST in line to support and I KNOW they would do it for me!! Wow!!

It's going to be a wild season!! Thanks for being you!

As always you are the only normal one

Welcome back! I have to say that although I thought you were a little "out there" at first, I love you. I have the utmost respect for you and now I can see what a wonderful person you are and what a great big heart you have.

You are very real and normally right on with your blogs. Can't wait to spend a few weeks watching your life.

How mature of you to still attend Ramona's yacht party after her harsh criticism of you and Simon in the previous season. I think it says a lot about your character that you could just her treatment of you go. I think you and Simon are lovely and kind hearted.

Alex, Try to keep a cool head. You seem to be the only one that truly cares about how the others feel and try not to use harsh words. I have grown to like you alot on this show. LuAnn should have spoken to Mario in person, but also Ramona could have just said I will speak with him about it but I am not getting involved. TIMING is key and the other housewives, besides you, have AWFUL timing when bringing up a subject. It is a great show, but the other housewives are acting like spoiled children right now...

You are so right about Luann. I was screaming at the TV. Tell Mario not Ramona. Why should Ramona have to defend or censure Mario. Luann needs to stand up for herself or be quiet and deal.

Gaby, I agree with you and Alex. When you have an issue with someone you speak to them directly instead of their spouse which is cowardly. Luann - what were you thinking? Writing books on etiquette, you should have known not only it was inappropriate to bring it up then to Ramona, but she was your host for the day as well.

Love you and Simon. You keep the show worth watching.

Congrat's on your success in running your own business. You are a hardworking, smart woman so I'm not surprised.

I was confused as well as to why Luanne would confront Ramona for Mario's comment. The drama feels contrived.

Becky Sharp,

Still working on the image and trying to play neutral Switzerland. Whatever floats your boat.

It is tacky for Ramona to pump her wares every opportunity she gets. Whether it is an office scene with her, her daughter, and Mario and a fat website sign off to the side or her showing her skin creams or jewelry lines, ENOUGH ALREADY!

LuAnn started to tell Ramona why she wouldn't attend her Labor Day getaway...but Ramona in true bi-polar form blew a gasket.

I see you have taken up the marketing stance by pumping the camera store and the Philly opening in your blogs.

The trick to climbing socially is to not be so OBVIOUS about it.

Good job on continuing to use the hair products on your unruly mane.

I am liking you more and more every season as the other women consistently get more insane. Keep taking that high road Alex!

I wasn't able to catch the entire episode last night but your explanation and update seemed the most rational and almost subdued compared to everyone else's. I also agree with your point on the Ramona/Luann confrontation. LuAnna should've just confronted Mario herself instead of involving Ramona like that. Of course she was going to defend her husband. You and Simon are definitely growing on me each season. Good luck with everything.

Welcome back! Honestly, you are the most "stable" out of that group. So happy to see you are doing well

Alex way to go...First show and you were the only housewife that acted like a lady and didnt get caught up in any drama.

Alex- I have to admit that on Season 1 you really irked me but now I have done a complete 180, it seems that you are the most down to earth, level headed, gracious and mature one on the show. I now look forward to seeing your scenes and reading your blog. You are what a lady should be and you are a class act. Kudos to you for staying above the fray with all the drama on the boat and for being supportive of Ramona's jewelry and not taking yourself so seriously that you were offended when she decided to showcase it. Happy to hear that being laid off didn't hit you to hard and that everything is on the up and up. Can't wait to watch the rest of the season.

You and Simon are the only articulate people on the show. Hope you continue to rise above the drama while still calling out the women when being completely out of line.

Alex I adore you!! Your sense of humor, your intelligence are truly a breath of fresh air!!!

I'm so happy for your success in your business, you and your family deserve it!!

I look forward to seeing more of you and your beautiful clothing this season!!

Alex,

You seem like a pleasant person with a positive spirit. You're certainly more forgiving than most folks (including me) by accepting Ramona's invitation. That said, I'm curious if you actually spoke more than 2 sentences in the premier last night. Your lack of comments sort of makes you invisible. If you were alone in a room, you wouldn't be noticed. I hope you have more of yourself to add to the storyline in future eps. Bon chance!

You are wonderful!! I absolutely love how you have so much class and intelligence. Thank goodness you are on the show. It sure wouldn't be the same without you!!

I agree that Luann should have confronted Mario directly about the slur, but I also understand why she didn't - the man is a bully. Also, Luann wasn't really blaming Ramona for the comment, she was explaining to her that it was the reason she didn't want to be around Mario and so wouldn't be attending the party.

To say that Mario can be abusive and ungentlemanly is like saying is like saying the sun radiates more light than the moon. Talking directly to Simon is hardly the same thing as confronting Mario. As far as I can tell, LuAnn isn't a masochist.

Alex - you would be the one I chose as a best friend. You are never sneaky or mean. You are the voice of reason and the one who shows the most kindness. Also, I love Simon, too. He is very devoted to you and I love the way you defend a snarky remark from the housewives. Also, Ramona seems to be the other one who is not sneaky. All of the others are constantly sniping.

Why on earth do you degrade yourself to be on this horrible show with these horrible women?

Your hair looks good this season, and you're totally right about Luann and Jill I don't get why they were upset about the jewelry either...I think Jill was upset she didn't get any for free or something...and I didn't get why Luann thought it was proper to confront Ramona about something Mario said either.

Sorry you were not shown more in the first episode as you are my favorite housewife. However, since there was a lot of confrontation and you are too classy to involve yourself in that, I understand why you were not featured too often. What's funny is that you are so much younger than the rest of them but you behave so much more appropriately. Excited the new season has finally arrived - hope to see you (and Simon) more often!

I have ALWAYS been a fan of Silex! I think you have such a genuine love and respect for each other. I'm glad to see you tried to stay out of the drama!

Can't wait to see next week's episode!
