- Be Brooklynized
- Alex shares the story behind her FEED corset, and explains why she loves living in Brooklyn.
Brain dead. That would be me tonight. Very long day, but when you see the reunion special on May 12th it’s going to be amazing. I can’t wait to see it myself, and I was there!! But enough about things I can’t talk about; let’s get onto the business at hand…
Happy Halloween! I enjoy episodes like this one when it’s obvious that the events took place a few months ago, to give people an idea of the lead-time from filming to airing. Someone emailed me last week to congratulate a fellow Aries on the birthday earrings, and this Libra was momentarily confused.
Opening night at the opera was September 22nd, and I was very happy to wear the FEED corset that Simon bought for me at the Go Green Expo last year. Designed by Maggie Norris, a great couturier, the corset was made using 3 FEED bags. Part of the donation Simon made that night went to the Amazon Rainforest project , and the balance went to feed 176 children at school for a year. See http://www.wfp.org/node/404 . Maggie paired the corset with a nifty little water bottle holder that she created using found objects; leather from a pair of boots, buttons from a military jacket, etc. What a great way to send a message to the world – and different than a t-shirt or hat. And yes, the opera that night was amazing! Renée Fleming was as fabulous as ever, and it was the first time I had heard anything from Manon live, which was exciting.

Alex, I remember seeing in last years episodes, that you were raised in the Midwest, and liked city life, better. Well dear, you can take the girl out of the midwest, but not the midwest out of the girl. Cooling off in the backyard blowup pool, living in a remodel with all the inconvience and mess, not having tv's in the bedrooms, allowing your boys to be boys, are all hallmarks of the Midwest mindset. Yes I love the midwest, lived in Boston area for a time. Now live in Jasper county Indiana and love it. Alex you and Simon are my favorites out of the show. Hope you all have a great summer. They should do a Housewives of Jasper County. LU Bishop

Alex and Simon are great people. They are different than the other cast members, and I like that about them. Many people judge them for their bizarre charateristics, but in my opinion they are not hypocrites; they are real people trying to climb the rungs of success. Its horrible that these people are scrutinized primarily because they live in brooklyn yet the other cast members--excluding Bethany, because she is also my favorite--all potray themselves as being the most ghetto!!!!

Alex,
I love you on the show. It is so nice to see people like you and Simon who love each other so much. I'm really envious of your relationship. Who cares that people think you guys are fake? Jealousy can turn people very ugly. I love you guys and hope to see more of you guys on the show!

Alex, You guys are awesome! The show would not be the same without you! Though Simon could of kept his cool in check when the limo driver missed the turn, for your birthday. You were cool, calm and collective through it all! Bravo! Your boys are sweet, and boys will be boys. Their having fun in front of the cameras.

I love that you and Simon live in Brooklyn! Brooklyn can be a great place! It's large, diverse, a little slower paced than Manhattan-- which is what i like.

I love, love, love your renovation. I love your style and you and your husbands relationship! Kudos to you!! Also, for those who have gotten it twisted. Brooklyn is in New York, and most people that live in Manhattan can't afford living there either. It's called living beyond their means. Go Team Alex!!!! Go Brooklyn

Alex,
Love you, love your husband, love how you love your children! The Feed Bag corset was amazing and you were the perfect woman to pull it off...few would have the confidence to do that.
Bravo to you & Simon for showing class in the face of such idiots like Ramona & her husband (she WAS flustered when Simon showed up to play tennis and I loved it!)
YOU ARE A CLASS ACT ALL THE WAY!!!!! :-)

Alex, You need to take your own advice. You and Simon are the world's worst for talking about people behind their back. Own it or move on! Also poor Simon was probably overheating from too much alcohol if the trut were told.

Alex,
First of all, who cares if that moose costume was used on Saturday Night Live. Just another instance of you trying to brag about something. I really get sick of you and your husband trying to appear more impressive that you are. WHO CARES!!!!! Just be yourselves and stop trying to climb the social ladder. Newsflash...you and Simon do not have the money to be a part of New York's High Society. Jill has that kind of money. I saw an article where you recently were laid off and you said you and Simon could only afford those lavish shopping sprees twice a year. You also said getting laid off meant you would have to cut back on the nanny. I'm sorry that you were laid off. Instead of trying to impress the viewers of this show, maybe you should focus on keeping your family financially secure. Be happy that you have your health, each other, your boys,a roof over your head and food to eat.
Also, if Bethenny changed her mind about the logo that is her prerogative. I don't recall seeing that you signed a contract to design her logo. Just because she didn't choose your design doesn't mean she didn't like it at some point. Maybe she just didn't like it for this project.

I think your husband and Mario need to stay out of the spotlight a little more on the next season. It is supposed to be a houseWIVES tv show, not househusbands. All in all, you and your husband are very real and down to earth. I like you guys far more than those two clown Mario and Ramona!!

I too love Silex, they are the only two with an ounce of intelligence or class on the entire show. I think the others are jealous of the fact that they are happily married with 2 beautiful children, especially Bethenny because they have everything she wants but can't seem to get because she is so dysfunctional

Hi Alex,
I enjoy your writing. I think that for the most part, with a few exceptions, it's likely the real you that we see on the screen. I can't say the same for your husband, but he's your husband, not mine, and you're happy with him. I love what you say about Brooklyn. I lived there during my grade-school years, and it was indeed a great place to be a child. My son spent a few years in a very cool part a Williamsburg, a great place for an artistic young adult. Good luck with the renovation of your house.

Alex, you and Simon have grown on me over the past two years, I think you both are so good together and at least don't come off as the social climbers you were portrayed to be.
I have one comment really. In a previous blog, you said that you were glad to help Bethenney out with her logo, that you were willing to produce something for her and then let her run with it. Is this a little sour grapes now that she didn't run with yours but someone elses? I think she honestly thought the logo was right on, but in the end, wanted something else. We all change our minds. Loved the Halloween costumes. So, what is next for you? Have you been able to find a job yet?

You are my favorite, from your dealing with being a working mother and wife to trying to help out friends and every where in between. I think you are the most real woman on the show! you are honest about wanting to have a better life and all want that they just are not as honest as you are! YOU afre the most honest woman on any of the housewives shows west or east coast! By the way since the economy has taken a bit out of the company you worked for what are your future plans? Will you start up your own art studio and let other starving artist in?

Hi Alex, Thanks for being so real. I hope you confront the two-faced Betheny at the reunion show. I had to laugh when I saw her sitting in the audience at Dancing with the Stars, you think it was her that was the Star. Everytime the camera showed her, she was looking directly at it. She loves herself way more than she should. She is stuck back in junior high school. She has a good life now and she needs to get over her past or get some serious counseling for herself. All of the attention has gone to her head, unlike YOU.

Alex,
I have to tell you that it is very nice to see you loving you and Simon are to each other. It is also nice to see that you guys live your own lives and don't get caught up between the drama from the other housewives. You are so well mannared and respectful of others, and that is what makes good people.
The other housewives could learn a lot from the both of you, like spending quality time with the children...

Let me start by saying that I am totaly hooked on the Housewives series BUT New York is my favorite. At first I didn't care for you and Simon because you seemed to be social climbers and I thought it out of line for Simon to attend the ladies' evening. BUT since then, I have so much respect for the both of you --Simon never "loses it", seldom becomes confrontational and was calm and a complete gentlemen when Romana went off. I know she doesn't care for him but let's put on our big girl panties now and behave accordingly. And you are always very calm and collected and I love that you and Simon spend so much time with your children. I also appeciate that you and Simon do not talk behind people's back. AND you are stunning, especially at the opera events. Unfortunately, I adore musicals but have never been able to acquire a taste for opera and one of my good gay friends sings in the Phoenix opera but did do several shows in New York. I applaud you both.

I am so jumping on the Alex and Simon bandwagon!!! I really think that you both are very normal, average, yet extravagant people and I think that is wonderful! YOu are raising your children to understand that you can have nice things and live in a nice place, but you dont have to live in "Manhattan" or have a HUGE house in the Hamptons to be liked or noticed! GO ALEX AND SIMON!!!!

Dear Alex,
You seem like a nice enough person. You are helpful and kind to those that you care about. That's nice. I do feel awfully sorry for you when your hubby suffers from severe mood swings. Maybe, he should get a mood stabilizer. There really is no excuse for his tantrums since he is long in the tooth.
The feed corset was really beautiful. However, it isn't a practical solution for most people due to the exorbitant price. Hence, t-shirts and caps work just fine to help the cause and do it more effectively.
You seem to be a one-woman band for the joys of Brooklyn. I suppose if you lived on Park Avenue, then that would be the best place to live, right?

I have to say I have always been on the fence about you and your husband, but Simon was SO endearing when y'all were carving pumpkins on the steps with your kids! He seemed like a kid at heart and I love the fact that he talked about his halloween-free childhood in Australia. You both seem like great parents...congrats on being the most normal couple on the show.

Alex: I'm confused. Why would you were that FEED top to the opera? The opera, to those of us you are poor, is a sign of wealth. Shouldn't you have spent the money it took to go to the opera to feed the poor, as was intended by the charity?

I don't understand why the housewives don't like Alex. I find her funny, intelligent and a true go getter. I like her alot.
The only ones I don't care for are Ramona and Kelly as they're so self evolved its sickening. Ramona talks about simon not having any depth and yet I don't think ramona has any depth. I think she's as two faced and shallow as they come. Kelly is just plain a child. She thinks the whole world revolves around her and the whole world is looking at her and honestly I had no clue she was even famous until this show. I just don't get why she has to cause so much drama then blame it on others. I'm starting to turn the channel when Kelly comes on as its just soo ingorant for my tastes. I think Kelly needs to grow up.

I loved that the show had you and your children doing REAL Halloween activities. It made others see that you know its a kids holiday and you put them first, getting into all the muck of pumpkin guts and the fun of trick or treating. Well done!!
Your FEED outfit was fabulous!! You are a gorgeous woman who indeed can look good even in a burlap bag!!! Your hubbie is quite lucky!
Its funny how this season started out with you and Simon being the underdogs but as time went on, truly showed you as the class act and REAL people that can stand proudly.

First let me say I adore Simon and yours' relationship. Second ignore Romana for being jealous of you two. I love the friendly atmosphere you give. I would love to have a friend like you. Now, here comes some insight on what I saw on one episode. There was a dinner party at Jill's around Thanksgiving. Francois, and the other son was misbehaving. I couldn't believe you would allow them to act like that. I think you should at least stop them from yelling? Are you still writing a book on parenting? Just to point out discipline, an important part. Hope to see the new renovations of your home like on HGTV!

I didn't like very much you and your husband at the beginning of the show. I though that you were snob and focalized how well you were speaking French. Je suis francaise mais je parle l'Anglais et l' Espagnol.
But after the last season, I changed my mind. You and your husband are very nice. I love Brooklyn and it's the best place for children. Much better than Manhattan. You are also a good photographer! Congratulations.

I concur with the whole attitude about Brooklyn. I live in Bay Ridge, not quite as hip as BoCoCa, but it is the most diversified borough in the city (and the most populated!!). Contrary to popular belief, you can't get everything in Manhattan, but if you can't find it there, it's definitely in Brooklyn!!!!!!! It's awesome that you plug Brooklyn so much. It lets the rest of the world know that NYC is NOT just Manhattan, but 4 other wonderful boroughs as well.

Aloha from Hawaii! You and Simon are obviously very happy together and also enjoy fashion together. My husband and I are the same! My husband and I also shop and get into fashion as a couple. We shop together so our outfits can complement each others as a couple when we go to events together. (Why can't other people 'get' this?) I think some people on the show are jealous that they don't have as close a relationship as you and Simon have. In particular, Ramona doesn't seem to understand that a husband and wife can actually be bestfriends!

Alex,
You're a class act. Reading your blog is a joy. You don't write snarky comments, you don't talk behind other people's backs. Hats off to you.
One piece of advice. With your new fame and down -to- earth attitude, you (and Alex?) should also be designing your own jewelry or clothing. Perhaps a young boy's clothing line or at least get some kick back from product/label placement on the show.
Best of luck, really enjoy watching you and Alex this season.

I must say that although last season I found you and Simon to be a little much, I have really enjoyed you this season. I really like the fact that you have a home in Brooklyn and you do "normal" things like take your kids trick or treating and stay in your house while it's being renovated (hey, that's what most of us HAVE to do) even though your husband manages a hotel. Anyway, best of luck to you. By the way, the annoying couple this season is definitely Ramona and Mario...and Kelly and _______ (insert the "man du jour" here). You seem to be off the hook for now. :-)

Alex, have never written to you b4, but just want to say how impressive it is that you nor Simon ever give "digs" to others unprovoked, and even then it is rare. You are the same week to week, no matter who you are dealing with. I have never understood why the others are so intent on superficial things---like clothes and handbags and who-said-what-to-whom first, but you and Simon have endured the sniping and criticism with grace, and I hope it's because you know that YOUR priorities are Francois and Johan. GOOD FOR YOU! Every kid should be so blessed to have such devoted and fun parents. Your genuiness (is that a word?) really shines through, and we all love you. God bless your whole family!

Simon didn't have to do the tennis match. So, Betheny making telling Jill about Simon was a good idea. If Simon knew he was not good. He should have bailed out gracefully. And it wil be Jill problem, not Simon. Bethenny is unique in her own way. And you are unique as well.

Alex, I always enjoyed you and Simon, seeing the both of you not as "affected" worldly people, but as those who have lived in a variety of countries and want your children to enjoy and be open to the same experiences. Those who commented about your children running amok at the dinner party last year (?) haven't taken into account they are toddlers, but perchance should you have left them at home since it was an adult event? Children need not experience everything their parents do, sometimes they need to be excluded and left to their own devices and creativity.
Last, I am thrilled to see you and Simon taking the high road regularly.

Alex,
I honestly liked the logo you did for Bethenny much more than the one she eventually went with. The first one (the she featured at Jill's first charity event) made her look like a charicature (sp?) with chunky thighs. At least you made her logo more believable and less tacky. I hope she compensated you for all those billable hours!

I find nothing wrong with living in Brooklyn, but I personally think the only reason you and your family chose to live there is because it is cheeper living than in Manhattan. You to could never afford to live there and afford the lavish, overly priced clothes that you two buy.

Okay, Alex, I'm surprising even myself by blogging you since, at first, I was turned off by you and Simon mainly due to Bethenny's constant badmouthing people (I foolishly thought she was a genuine person--my bad); HOWEVER, as many others have expressed, I have grown to admire and really envy your and Simon's attitudes towards everyone, albeit some of those "friends" know nothing of integrity, decency, or etiquette. How low of Bethenny to post videos of herself impersonating you two; it only confirms my belief she is insecure, immature and jealous of anyone, regardless of her grousing about her hardknocks life. I believe your generosity towards all is overlooked, especially with regards to the logo you helped Bethenny with for her forever-being-plugged products. Brooklyn's lucky to have your family--keep up the good work!

OK, I concede! At first I thought you two were off the chart weird. Not so much anymore, albeit still a little strange, your growing on me. Even though you two go a little overboard on the clothes shopping and trying to fit in by being at all the right places and seen with all the right people, there's something likeable happening. I particularly think you two have done a good job at holding your head high even though you are/were being jabbed from every corner. Keep it up and I will look forward to watching you on the next season. P.S. I had boys too, I could totally relate. Ha!

Alex, I have to say you and Simon are growing on me. Some of the stuff you do together may not be everybody's cup of tea, but there is a lot to be said for doing it together anyway. Dear Mojo,
I believe Alex and Simon's townhouse was purchased for a little over $1 million around 3 years ago. That's like half of what a brownstone in the Heights would have cost. So there's that. (For people outside Brownstone Brooklyn, we're talking about neighborhoods a short walk from each other. That's how crazy New Yorkers are. These people literally share a Barnes & Noble.)

i think it's fine that you're a cheerleader for brooklyn. what i hated was your disdain of the atlantic ocean! sure, it's different than st.b's, but it's wonderful, as well. it can be really fun for little kids, and make them strong swimmers and give them a much needed respect for water.
i really like the 'feed' top- really wish a could afford one!

I really don't know how to begin what I wanted to say..haha! Well for starters I truly enjoyed watching those scenes with the Halloween decorating and your family. Week after week I watch the show and some weeks I can't stand you and your husband, and some weeks I love you guys...like I did in the last episode. Anyway I just really have no clue what to think about you guys in a real prespective, so I'll just leave it at a love/hate kinda thing with you guys! Anyways I surely like you more than I do Kelly...who?? HaHa!

Alex, It appears that 99% of the people really love you. You really are a very genuine person. Betheny says all the time that she says it like it is, NOT, she makes me sick the way she talks behind your back and is so nice to your face. Do not feel alone, she does it to everyone. She reminds me that I am so glad not to be a teenager again. I would rather live a life of honesty and integrity and you and Alex certainly do that. Good luck.

Alex:
You are lovely and managing quite well with two little boys, a husband, a job and a renovation. Plus, of course, the show! True colors are coming out all over the place which makes for great entertainment. Simon was unfairly trashed for the tennis debacle, which was a mean-spirited "idea" from Bethenny from the get go.

Alex the more I get to know you and Simon, the more I like you! I think everyone else is very jealous of the amazing relationship and love you have for each other. Its quite exemplary. Good for you...its a great inspiration to see a couple so happy and in love!
Furthermore, you strike me as a quietly confident, secure women who is intelligent not as superficial as the others (are you listening Kelly?) and Simon genuinely seems to love you so much and appears to be a devoted and wonderful husband and father. I think it must be a relief to be a little out of the area, in a slightly more "normal" environment and neighborhood, especially for the kids.
Thanks for keeping it real.

You seem really sweet I think its cool that you do things with your husband, all the snide remarks the other women make on the show, they are just jealous, and any way who cares what you do, its your life, I think its so funny that they get so hung up on you and simon, Hello your married! Keep it real..

Alex- I could only hope you and Simone eventually get handed your own reality show! Your family is unique and diverse and despite what people say you both carry yourselves very impressively! I love how all the ladies make fun of you two for being obsessed with status, and yet you are the only two who are seen spending time with FAMILY and making family a PRIORITY!!! Keep it up!

I just want to say....Thank you! Love your family and your values! I think that Bethenny, Jill and Ramona should thank their lucky stars that they had a opportunity to be your friend!

I like you and Simon more every week. You seem genuine, caring, and the most adult of the group. I do like the whole gang...you are just my favorite. Wish everyone could just get along and be nice.
By-the-way...loved your artwork for the logo.

The Corset was amazing! Simon showed great taste in doing that for you and for the charity. Loved watching you with the children on Halloween, showed the down to earth side of the family... was very refreshing and touching! ~ Love Mary Kellerman

Dear Alex,
May I ask what you wore the FEED bag with at the Met? Also, I read an interview with Brooklyn housewives and they said they never see you or your family around Brooklyn. What is your response?
I have to say that I admire your cool head. Keep up, Alex.
By the way, how is the job search going? I wish you well.

I do not know what to say...I felt so sorry for the underdog..I was in her cheering section, now it looks as if fame and fortune went to Bethenny's head and any moment I expect her head to spin around and she will spit pea soup!
Kelly does not belong on the show at all and I can not figure out why they do not play the episodes in order!? All in all I was hoping you and the"Countess would find eachother. Yes you are both very different BUT I really hoped the two of you would spend more time together.
