Season 2
Season 1
This week I’m writing the blog early since our book, Little Kids, Big City, is coming out! On Monday Simon and I closed the NASDAQ, the book launched Tuesday and we are off and running with signings in NY and NJ all week until we head to LA on 4/13. You can check out mccordvankempen.com for pictures, book tour information and to order a copy! With that said, let’s get to episode 6, where we start on the Brooklyn Bridge with Bethenny taking a ride on what she called the Ramonacoaster.
Lordy, all Simon and I did was agree to meet the girls for brunch! We coordinated coffee and tea and things at Almondine, a really cute bakery right under the bridge. Ramona and Bethenny showed up looking like they’d gone three rounds with Mike Tyson, complete with ear gnawing. They were both trying to put on a happy face but had we known then just how intense it was on the bridge perhaps we’d have taken more drastic measures of distraction, like dunking them in the river or putting on a mime act or something. Watching the conversation on the bridge I was relieved that Ramona did realize she was mouthing off and not listening to Bethenny – she dialed it back and kept Bethenny from either jumping or throwing her off the bridge.
Moving right along past the slumber party and flatulent dog, we met at Simon’s and my good friend Cory’s agency to cast for Loris Diran’s show. The three of us actually met at a Bravo party but became friends in real life, and I was so happy the network allowed us to cross-pollinate a little (and I’m writing this on his birthday!) So before the committee arrived Bethenny and I talked. For some reason she and I are always pretty raw with each other, and although most of the time the viewers have seen us discussing things going on with her, it does go both ways.
That conversation touched me so deeply – when I understood that her dad was still lucid and would be able to know she was there, I really wanted B to go and tell him everything she had to say. I wasn’t just giving blind support either – my father suffered from Alzheimers, but in the end he died very unexpectedly of a heart attack. There are things to this day I wished I could have shared with him and that’s where the “go clear the air” pep talk came from. Although I loved my father so very, very much, that disease did its dirty work and by the time of his death I felt wronged by him and didn’t trust what he said anymore, so I could relate to Bethenny’s non-relationship with her dad. Even if you think you can’t stand someone in your family, it still feels like being hit in the face with a two by four when you lose, or realize you’re going to lose them. I was sorry to hear when she got back from that trip that he hadn’t been willing to see her.
Alex: I think you (& Bethanny) are the only real ones on this show. You don't fall for the bs, you are also a straight shooter and don't have tolerance for the high school drama that goes on. Kudos for trying to get pig headed Jill to concede and have a conversation w/ Bethanny but it seems she's dug her heels firmly in the sand and is not budging. Unfortunately, she will someday realize what a great friend she lost in Bethanny and it may be too late b/c Bethanny may not be willing to welcome her back. Stay true, Alex!
Alex--thank you for showing such kindness and common sense during this crazy episode! It's gotten really painful to watch--the mean-girl-itude, Bethenny's obvious distress, and the dissolution of what really did seem to be a good friendship. I almost breathe a sigh of relief when you appear onscreen--finally a dose of sanity!
Love you Alex!! You and Simon have really grown on me this season. And I love you commentary/perspective on the Jill/Bethany situation. Jill is such a child and too bad for her to not revel in Bethany's happiness. Clearly green is all Jill can see!
I think you have proven to be the classiest and have been well spoken this season!! Keep up your positive attitude and enjoy your family!!
I have to say that you have not always been my favorite housewife but this season I also have to say that you are growing on me and that your hair looks fabulous! I have hated your hair in previous season because it always looked frizzy and undone or not polished. I don't know what you are doing different this year but keep it up, you look great!
You have really grown into your own this season. It's like the last couple of seasons you were portrayed as trying to meet the right people and be in the right place, but this season you are just coming across as sincere, good people. I never thought I would say this, but I will definitely check out your new book and support you. Take care of those beautiful boys!
Love You Alex!! You always hit the nail on the head with these women. No matter how hard the viewers have been on you, and the NYHW too, you always seem to rise above it and stick to your true self. You and Simon have NEVER apologized for being yourselves. I think everyone took offense to that in the first 2 seasons, but now I think the viewers are praising you for it finally!! I really hope you stay for season 4... despite the rumors that you weren't asked back by Bravo. You are definitely a true friend who understands that part of friendship is GIVING without EXPECTING anything back. :-) XOXO!!!
Alex,
You just prove that one does not have to be a "Countess," to treat people with class, kindness and respect. Jill, LouAnn and Ramona could certainly use some lessons from you. They are horrid people and none of them is worthy of being friends with you or Bethanny Frankel.
Alex - you are just so cool. You're the voice of reason for the show. I'm glad we're getting to see more of you this season. You just release a positive flow of emotion - I hope it's not just for the cameras. I suspect that that it is an organic part of your personality. The world needs more Alex's to cut through the BS and try to help folks quit being so sensitive and start being more positive and concentrate on the real issues and people out in the world.
Alex-I like you so much this season! You and Simon seem to be the only sane ones..It hard watching this season with all the Caddy fights going on with the rest of the cast,I can't imagine how hard its for you to deal working with these women.
I love your blogs!! You and Simon are becoming the only normal people on the show. You are classy and smart. I'm glad Bethenny had you to talk to, it was very touching to see you guys lean on each other. You are as usual SPOT ON!!!
Alex,
I'm so glad the kind, loving non judgemental, come as you are couple who got blasted the first two season and being shown in a true light. Shine on my friend. Your kindness is in such stark contrast to the rest on the nonsense going on. You and Simon are a true inspiration.
Alex, you are a class act! It seems you are one of the only women who can keep their composure in this show. You are honest and gutsy. You come across on the show as a wonderful mother and a very supportive wife. Of all the housewives you seem the most down to earth and real. I HAVE TO ASK though knowing how volatile and infectious her irrational behavior can be I wonder why you would continue to invite Ramona to particpate in anything at all?
I just think you are great. You really are a good person. I can not believe Jill and the hypocrit that she is. I am going out and buying your book as soon as it comes to town.
You really are the peace maker and the only sensible person left on the cast! I had a really bad feeling in my stomach tonight watching how Jill acted I really hope no one else turns into a mean girl! (except for luanne who is clearly just a follower)
betenny, congragulation on your marriage and new baby. alex you are agood person and true friend, would love to have a friend like you!
Alex you are a great iam so glad you are nice to bethenny. Stay away from jill and luann they are sad people I feel sorry for there kids they think they are in high school!!! you have a great family good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
betenny, congragulation on your marriage and new baby. alex you are agood person and true friend, would love to have a friend like you!
Bravo never posts my comments but I am going to give it a go.
I don't think every single model has the experience you had in Milan. Read the book "Model." You are a very intelligent woman and I am surprised you would just gloss over what being a model can be. It isn't always fun and games. A lot of models are underage, starving and barely speak English. They get sexually harrassed and judged non stop. So you may not "buy" what Kelly is saying because we all know she is not articulate but she is right to feel bad for a model.
Alex,
You are such a lady. So refreshing. If I continue to watch this show, it will because of you. I know Bethenny is leaving, I am hoping so way, you can have your own show or at least be on the same show with Bethenny.
After tonites episode, I am very upset....I just can't believe Jill or Luann, and Ramona. The hurtful things said to Bethenny, my heart ached for her. Why do people say such hurtful things..I will never understand ....anyway......Thank you, I will follow you and Simon on your book tour. Best of luck.....
What can I say:
You have class, you're down to earth, and I'm sure many a viewer can literally "feel" the nice-ness that you exude.
I have to tell you, I saw you breaking out in hives on your neck when you were speaking with Jill and KNEW it was because of what was going on.
I hope they show the clip of Madge and Ginger. That must have been hilarious.
P.S. I like your style: you don't brag about what you've done or who you know. If it is important to bring up, then you give it a quick mention. Kudos!
Alex, you are a good, loyal friend. I think Ramona was way off base because I think your relationship with Bethenny is 100% more authentic than anything Countess Crackerjacks and the Mafia Boss are fronting.
Alex, you are definitely the peacemaker on the show and one one of the favorite housewives. You have such a calm personality and you don't take sides. I think you're doing a great job!
Keep up the good work!
Can't wait for your book!
I have to say you left the least impression on me on the show. That said you're opinion on Beth vs. Jill was so candid and mature and you really hit the nail on the head when you said Jill was using Beth's success as an excuse to make Beth feel she owes Jill something.
Very well said.
Alex, I am so glad that Bethenny has you on the show to talk to. All the other ladies have been so rude to her. What is it gang up on Bethenny season?
Jill and LuAnn are so nasty this season. I have a hard time watching them. I think Jill needs to live her "Golden Rules of Friendship" and just not write about them. Jill is so jealous of Bethenny, she can't stand it that Bethenny is successful.
You are great Alex!!! The only non drama HW. You show more class than all the HW put together. I am, for the record TEAM BETHENNY. You appear to be so caring and people would be lucky to have you as a friend, as I think Bethenny is. I admire your relationship with Simon. BTW, were has he been this season?? We want more Simon!!!

Blessed is the peacemaker!!! Real friends feel your pain and are moved to compassion by it! Way to go Alex!
Alex, thank god for you! You are the only voice of reason in this show anymore. I think that you were right to ask Jill to try to make up with Bethany. I also think you were right to not push the subject. Jill has dragged everyone into this and built an army against Bethany. Although sometimes Bethany is snarky or over-reacts to what people say to her, I believe she truly cares are Jill and Jill is just being ridiculous and mean. Regardless of how weird sometimes snobby you and Simon are, you are good people and I think that the rest of the girls should feel grateful to have you in their lives.
I feel that Alex would be the first person that I would choose as a friend. I enjoy watching the drama with the other girls, but, I feel Alex is the most trust worthy person on the show. Stephanie Champaign,IL
Finally you've got respect and the show is showing you in a good light. What a great role your playing with all the drama going on. I honestly think you should take your success and run! Go on to better things such as your family and better friends, f the "NY status thing" Good Luck in all your ventures.
Team Alex and Simon!!! I applaud all of your efforts with this wretched group of women tonight. And, please do NOT believe that Jill loves your boys, the only reason why she comes to your house in this episode tonight is to save face.
I'm glad you've been there for Bethenny, what with the insanity of the other "ladies". You are a kind soul and I wish you all the best.
Alex you are such a level headed classy person. One that doesn't have to constantly say I am classy like Luanne..actions speak louder than words. You don't go behind anyones back, your honest and genuine! And to add, you really do look nice this season!
Alex, you bring such warmth to the screen this season! It's a pure pleasure to watch scenes with you. All the best to you and your family!
Alex, I think you are and have been "true to yourself" throughout the show. I have always liked and respected you. You appear to be a great mother, wife, and friend! What else is there?!
Wow, a city divided. Money does not buy class. Ramona needs to be sedated, Kelly needs an education, Bethenny needs to relax (so guarded), Jill needs to let it go and LuAnn needs to fall off her high horse,Darling. I kinda think that you're the only sane one in the bunch.
Alex, you are a beautiful woman- there's so much good inside of you that is impossible to miss. I almost think you're on the wrong show (I feel the same way about Bethenny). The other women are so immature, insecure and as a general rule are terrible examples to their children. You're fabulous. Stay true to who you are- your inspiring presence shines through when all the catty, ridiculous drama brings others down.
Alex I am really proud of you this season! No offense but at first you were not my favorite, but now I love how you stand up for yourself and how great of friend you have been!! Keep it up =)
Dear Alex, You used to be my least favorite housewife, but as of late, you are the only one that I really like. And thank you for having the class not to engage in the drama that the other housewives engage in. Yes, we notice. By the way your boys are ADORABLE. Lisa
Alex you have shown us a different side of you this season and I have to say I really like and respect it. In previous seasons, I don't think you have been well served by the editing. It was fantastic to see you being a good friend to Bethenny during a turbulant time in her life. It's like you and Simon were this island of sanity in the sea of hostility.
You're the bomb. I always knew it! If the producers can't see that we need a break from all of the projectile vomitting coming out of the other 3's mouths (and yes I said 3) then it's their loss. YOU are the TRUE Countess!

I love you and Simon. You are always so chill and bring a fresh perspective to the show. You define class!!!
