Alex McCord

Alex talks about her own modelling work, her emotional talk with Bethenny, and more.

on Apr 8, 20100

Models? Oh yes, there were some gorgeous ones. I have to say, although models do get judged on things they can’t control and yes, they do take out the garbage, I wasn’t buying Kelly’s “poor models” line. Listen, I don’t make as big a whoop-de-do about it as some of the other girls but I did two seasons in Milan. In fact, I could probably talk more about being judged than Kelly could because nine times out of ten, I’d be the model who would get optioned but ultimately not cast. Did I feel like saying “oh, poor me, I’m beautiful but my lips are too thin?” Hell no, I was 19 and had a great time living in Italy and traveling to France and Germany, being paid to stand around wearing gorgeous clothes for the jobs I did manage to book, and spending my paychecks on shoes and bags. I didn’t stress out about being alone or being judged. If I worried about that, I wouldn’t have modeled then and I wouldn’t be on a reality show now. The models at the Brooklyn Fashion Weekend casting that day didn’t seem too downtrodden either, they strutted their stuff, did what they had to do and a few of them got hired.

Not long after the casting, I invited Jill over to the house and wow, you can tell I was uncomfortable because my neck was breaking out in hives! Although I did own that I had been mad at Jill, I prevaricated a little about Brooklyn Fashion Weekend – I should have said, “I was mad at you so I didn’t involve you. Now we’re better so I’m inviting you to be a part of it.” Instead I developed a rash and yapped louder than Ginger about how it all happened sooooo fast. Anyway, we got into talking about Bethenny and I wanted to make it clear to Jill that things were dire, without betraying Bethenny’s confidence. Jill already knew Bethenny’s father was ill – which isn’t surprising because as he’s a well-known horse trainer his illness had made the papers, and yet she didn’t have any desire to reach out to her. I threw up my hands and let it go for the moment. By the way, Bravo, when you put together the lost footage, can you find that clip of Madge confronting Ginger? The 13-pound cat vs. chihuahua throwdown was pretty funny.

On to the last bit. Jill was not going to allow a face-to-face conversation, and although both she and LuAnn hated it, I don’t fault Ramona one bit for setting up that meeting as it was the only way to get the two of them together. Remember the scene in the Sex & the City movie where Miranda and her husband had to meet halfway across the bridge? Right, that would never have happened with this relationship. Bethenny would have walked all the way to the Hamptons without seeing Jill coming to meet her. We were all trying to get them back together in different ways. Sure, Jill felt ambushed because she didn’t have time to prepare. It’s funny to see this 6 months later – I actually met Bethenny right after she left Ramona’s and I remember her being like a guarded, wounded animal at the time. This was one of the first episodes where we saw raw emotion beyond the sniping, and there’s more to come.

Alex, YOU HAVE SO MUCH CLASS!!! You are the "most amazing person I know. " It is the inner qualities you possess, like, kindness, concern, empathy, sincerity etc as an individual. That is the real substance that can attract and create a bond between you and us (the viewer). You are such a great inspiration and rolemodel:). Congratulations on the launch of your book – what a great accomplishment! Please stay strong Alex, you are my hero!!!

I would just like to say that I think that you have a great family and a wonderful relationship with Simon. I am sorry that Americans are uptight about stupid things like clothing and insist on defining your husband as something he is not because of it!

If I had to pick a housewife to meet, it would be you, hands down. You seem to be the one whose feet are grounded and you seem so geniune. I wish I had a friend like you in my life. You aren't the "honey" and "darling" fake like the others. I want to puke when LuAnn starts her "darling" talk. I hope you never change! Your boys are lucky to have you as a mother!

alex, you are the voice of reason and sanity on this show, thanks for that!

Alex you are the voice of reason. True Bethenny at times can be hysterical but you are calming to her and who can blame her? You seem to be the only one to see her side. You are quite the lady in the truest sense of the word. I can not recall a single instance where you trashed or back stabbed another housewife. You always take a wait and see attitude and respond only when required...unlike Jill, Luanne, and Romona. Thank you for trying to ground the others...

Alex, I have to admit, you were not one of my favorite housewives in the beginning. I have totally changed my mind. You are definitely one of the few normal ones! I really think Bethanny picked the right one to confide in!

Alex: Thank God Bethenny has you. In the beginning of the show, I hated the "social climbers" that seem to define yours and Simons life. But you have shown to be a very real, deep and true friend. God bless you for that. Lori

Alex, you are the most evolved person on the show! I'm so impressed by the way you manage your relationships with the housewives; and you and Simon's kids are such a kick! Reminds me of the way we raised our boys, so loved, and happy, happy boys. Such a joy.

Hi Alex, I have to say, you are truly a favorite. I am still getting used to Simon, but am coming around. I have watched you be such a great friend to the others on the show. You truly are a classy lady...

Dear Alex,

You are certainly bright, entertaining and a foxy diva. I think I could trust you enough to confide in you without worrying about Perez writing about it. And, if you ever get tired of Simon, please let me know....

Alex, I like you. You're real! I also like Bethanny and as I was watching episode 6 with a good friend of mine, I was telling her that I think you and Bethanny could have an incredible, deep, lasting friendship with each other. You two should spend more time together.

I admire you and Alex. You share a wonderful relationship with each other and your boys. It's refreshing to watch you on the show especially with all the fighting going on.

Not that my opinion counts towards much, I really felt bland about Alex last season. Some things appeared to be weird, some things stood out as being odd, the kids are funny at times, but nothing caused me to have a connection with Alex last season.

This year, I think you may be the only sane housewife. You are consistent, you are emotional about your family and your feelings, and you seem to be the most realistic character. I see the other housewives that speak about who they know and titles they have, you have the best two. Mother and Wife. I appreciate that.

I wish you and your family many blessings. Thanks for being the voice of reason

Hi Alex, I think that you are a very smart person which makes you even more beautiful than you already are. I hope that you and Bethenny become very good friends because it seems that you relate to each other in a very special way. I think that Bethenny is a very lucky and happy person, but she needs a friend like you.

You are a class act, Alex! You're a great judge of character and you handle yourself and others quite admirably. You're a great friend. Stick with Bethenny. She could use a good friend, whom she can trust! Take Care, Kat

I realize I have not seen all the episodes, but I have to give a huge shout out to Alex. Ramona has not been renewed, she is crazier than ever. I am loving the new, kinder, gentler Alex. Your talk with Bethenny was heartfelt and genuine. You have managed to remain neutral in all of this seasons chaos. Kudos to you and your family! BTW, I have two very successful children. I know they climbed up a leg more than once. LuAnn, get over it!

Alex, I was really impressed by how you handled yourself when B came to the model selection all upset. Most people would have unconsciously folded them arms, leaned back, and glanced at the door in hopes of seeing someone else entering. But you leaned forward and really listened and tried to help B figure out why she was so upset. Very few people are that compassionate, esp with people they don't know well.

I love how you and your husband get along so well. It's a breath of fresh air to see a truly happy and healthy marriage; I wish my own parents had been that way!

I think B is maturing and becoming a better person. She could use you as a real friend. You, on the other hand, seem to have it all together. Avoid the other ladies; they will only add conflict to your life.

Alex, I have watched the Real Housewives of NYC since the first season and I have always been impressed by you. You come across as a very smart, talented, interesting and nice person. I'm especially enjoying your roll on the show this season. At times it seems that you and Simon are the only adults in the room. I'm also enjoying seeing you boys grow up. You have a lovely family. I'm glad you and Simon are on the show.

Of all the ladies of NYC, I think Alex is the stand-out one; she has class and she doesn't act like a spoil brat like Jill and LuAnn. And lets talk about Jill, what is up with her lately? grow up already, would you? Lordy! And LuAnn, for someone who's supposedly an expert in manners, you have a lot to learn in dealing with people and their feelings...stop the gossip-mongering, you two...it's too middle school; my 14 year old is more mature than the of you put together. So, BRAVO to Alex, you are a very classy lady!!!

Your blogs are hilarious---thank you for funny and articulate comments. I especially like it when you are actively listening to the histrionics of the other ladies-yet...you are not investing in their shenanigans---that shows an intelligence factor that I didn't think existed on RHNY. Bravo to you!

Dear Alex - I have to say, you are the only person that is growing in the right direction. You and Simon seem to be bettering yourself and balancing yourself with each new episode. In your first Season, I don't know if you meant to but it appeared as though you thought a bit to highly of yourselves but the more the show highlights your activities and your interactions, you and Simon become more anchored. I don't understand why Simon gets so much grief for his love of fashion. He clearly has a passion for it and I think it's cool that you both enjoy it so fully. I think it's fun to watch you both shopping in action. It's not unlike other couples who enjoy the outdoors together or who enjoy dancing. You enjoy the scene and what to where to it. So long as you keep it real...I see nothing wrong with enjoying the networking especially when it allows you to help others.

Good luck with your book. Oh and just so you know...I have a toddler son who behaves the same as your boys...he's the youngest of five and he's spirited and loud and a ball to be around if you take the time to get to know him as a person and not a child accessory. Good for the rest of the girls who say their children were never as lively...lord knows I never dreamed of raising a child on a leash who behaves on remote when let off. Kids are supposed to have energy. So long as they have consistent lessons and showing respect and being kind...the excitement they express should never be portrayed as anything but prescious and fun. Shame on Bravo for not showing a bit more of their sweeter softer moments and not just the ones that make the perfectionists shake their head. Every child is a gift...not just the rich proper snotty ones who grow up to fast and far too cynical.

Alex -- As I have come to know you week to week, it is very obvious that any housewife on the show is lucky to have you as a friend. You are kind, compassionate and you don't get into the backstabbing behavior that Jill and LuAnn seem to thrive on. You took some hard hits from the others and you always took the high road. I was so happy to see you speak up to Jill when she made that snarky remark about your children (or was it Luann) and for supporting Bethenney when she was going through the difficulty of her estranged father's illness. Take care and I hope you stay on the show. You seem to be the glue that holds the rest together.

Cudos to you for stepping in and being a true friend to Bethany! I was ready to give up on this season because it seemed like the only focus was on this argument. How can people call themselves charitable but act the way these grown women do? Again Alex hats off to you I will continue watching because of your great heart!

Alex, What can I say. You seem to be one of the most sincere of all the Bravo "Housewives" including the others in the Housewives franchise. You and Simon are so wonderful. You always have each other's back and I love your parenting. I recently posted a comment to Simon as well. I said , I love your parenting. You and Simon let your children learn by exploration and you are not always yelling at them to stop. You know when they should not be privy to an adult conversation. This was apparent in the episode where you made pizza and you had your son leave the room in order to carry on the adult conversation. Kudos! I just wanted to let you and Simon both know you are wonderful. Thanks, Kim

I understand the benefits of getting close to Bethenny. However seeing you doing her dirty work for her re Jill is not kind or dignified or any of the other complimentary things all your new fans are laying at your feet. I can still see Jill at that infamous reunion show last season holding B's hand while she hammered the rest of you..she was B's enforcer. Please dont take over that role Alex.

Word to the Wise
Word to the Wise

Alex- You are by far the most level headed person on this show. You exude class and self confidence sorely lacking in the other ladies. But please don't forget that in the past seasons, your new found friends B & R were not very nice to you. In fact, they were downright mean and rude. Don't trust them, especially B. Now that she is ousted from the mean girls club, she's looking for a friend or ally. Think, would she be this way towards you had she still been friends with Jill? i don't think so. Sad, but that's how some people operate. As for Ramona, perhaps she's coming around, who knows. She seems to genuinely like you this time and hope that it remains that way.
