Dorinda Medley's Travel Guide to the Berkshires: 4 Must-Dos for Culture Lovers

The New England county is a hotbed of the arts.

What are you doing in the Berkshires without Dorinda? The Real Housewives of New York pal knows the New England county like the back of her hand, and takes great pride in showing off her hometown. "I personally love the Berkshires; I think it attracts the most interesting people," Dorinda tells Jet Set. "There's endless things to do because it's so filled with culture out there."

But, even if you don't have Dorinda by your side to help you hop from museum to concert venue, you're in luck. The list below pinpoints the New Yorker's favorite spots for soaking up culture when she heads north for the weekend.

1.  Chesterwood

"You definitely have to go to Chesterwood," Dorinda says. She's referring to the former country home, studio, and gardens of sculptor Daniel Chester French, who created the Abraham Lincoln sculpture for the Lincoln Memorial. Today, French's idyllic home has a number of his plaster sketches. Visitors can also take self-guided tours of the gardens and woodland paths that the sculptor himself created.

2.  Tanglewood

Culture vulture Dorinda wouldn't let you leave her hometown without taking in a concert at Tanglewood. The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra offers outdoor concerts in genres ranging from classical to pop. As the music plays, guests set up elegant wine picnics on the verdant lawns and drink it all in.

3.  The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art

"The incredible art museum in North Adams is mind-boggling," Dorinda says. And with light-filled galleries housing works from artists like Nick Cave, the cultural spot certainly is impressive. The venue also hosts live performances all year round, so make it your go-to spot for a concert, world-music dance party — or an intriguingly dubbed "alternative cabaret."

4.  Shakespeare & Company

But if cabaret's not your jam, here's something else. Professional theater company Shakespeare & Company presents classics from the bard, but also puts on contemporary plays. So whether you're craving the fantasy of Midsummer Night's Dream, or are seeking a think piece like Amy Herzog's 4,000 Miles, this box office is your best bet.

In sum, "there's a dense feeling of creativeness" in the air at the Berkshires, Dorinda says. "It definitely has something, and you can't explain it till you're there."

Looks we all need to go!
