Carole reveals what she thought of each of the ladies when they met at Sonja's party.

on Jun 4, 20120

OK, here goes -- My first blog post as a Housewife!

Let’s start at Sonja’s gorgeous party with its crinkles and fresh guests. This was where I met everyone, and I was a little freaked out. I forgot that I’m shy. Did you notice? I’m comfortable in most social situations, but meeting Sonja, LuAnn, Heather, and Aviva all at once, so bright and bold, was overwhelming. Also, I didn’t know where to put my coat -- where did everyone put their coats? It wasn’t clear. There was coat pressure.

The dirty martinis came fast. I actually don’t drink much, I had to train for the show. I had to practice doing shots and drinking things dirty and on the rocks. It’s not as easy as it looks.

So, first impressions.

LuAnn’s like my high school French teacher, strict and proper with great cheekbones. I spoke French once, sort of. I dated a French-Canadian and he texted me in French. I used Google Translate to read them and to convert my English replies back, but the process wore me out. We didn’t last.

Sonja is restless and sultry, like Elizabeth Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I wonder if she’s ever dated anyone named Brick or Paul Newman.

Ramona’s fun. I can’t look at her without laughing. And the more time I spend with her, the funnier she gets. I nicknamed her “Bunny,” as in Energizer. She never stops moving!

Carol, after the trip to that beautiful island you so graciously asked these ladies to share with you, I am even more perplexed than I have been all season as to how you ended up with these loud and self- absorbed women. You can't be enjoying them. You might rightfully ask why I am watching this show. :) My husband thinks I'm insane. I think I am just fascinated; they are like an alien breed to me. I certainly exclude you. I get it. You are a little shy and very sweet. Take care.

Yes,

thank you Carol not only are you a refreshing change to our guilty New York housewives obsessions /pleasure, but after having  read  your book (what remains) this summer, I wan't to say that I personally discovered something that I would describe as unifying.  It was, and you are truly inspiring.

I liked your book a lot..read it before I knew you were a "Housewife"..I've had a challenging year and wanted to read books by strong women..yours gave me hope about many things. Thank you ever so much!

You are my new fave! I want to be a cool cat. Even your kid monologue was brilliant - and in no way offensive. You suspect right - even moms are bored by the kid talk. And my kid is the most awesomest kid ever, so I know.

I adore you. Your sense of humor is perfect! Looking forward to seeing more of you on the show.

You are my favorite new "kid" .. and I can't understand why Ramona and Sonja are still there...they should get the boot. However, I do enjoy watching you and as someone already said your blog is more entertaining than the show!!!!!!!!! Keep it up Carole you are a gem!!!!!

Wow! Whenever I was reading the ladies' comments I was roughly browsing through the paragraphs, skipping some of them...but with you, it's like a soap opera, no no, like a sitcom, but a good one, the one with that intelligent type of humour that makes your day :-) and all those accurate observations :-) you should have your own talk show :-) you've become my favourite housewife :-D I will certainly buy your book ;-)

Your the quiet one....... Better to be safe than sorry. Just don't be like the boring Cindy??? Was that her name, from last season?? CHEERS

Google is not perfect. "Ciao!", by the way, is like "Aloha!", in Hawaiian. In Italy it is used as a greeting and good-bye by some folks.

Looking forward to reading more blogs from you. Love the way you write. Your style is right up my road. Think I'll be reading your book soon.

How delightful! You really did seem on the shy side, but I'm guessing there's an onery little she devil lurking nearby! Your view on these ladies seem generously kind, and not one hint of a knife anywhere. How refreshing! I'll be looking forward to seeing you dragged out of your cocoon, just PLEASE don't let them drag you down! Have some fun with Sonja and Ramona, they have learned well when NOT to take life too serious, seemingly something a few others might try? Though I'm fairly certain that can be accomplished with a little less Pinot! Hope you have fun!

I really like you. It's obvious you are a writer and a good one at that. Your blog was well written and humorous. I think Bravo did a good job casting you. I'm an English major and love to write and would die for a job at glamour. Kudos to you.

Finally someone who is smart, cool, and sassy. BRAVO, duplicate her on the other shows, women are serious and savvy without all the hate that Ramona and her kind throw in the mix...ugh. Carol you bring a wonderful dynamic, remain classy, collected and carry on in this genuine manner you are exuding.

Carole-

There are always two sides to a coin; in this case, the good reason to be on this show is because it gives women an opportunity to know about their grief and about how to move on from their grief. The unfortunate affect of being on this show is that I believe it is below you. You were born to be a writer; not on a show such as this. But good luck- and live in joy.

What an entertaining blog! Love it, looking forward to more. You are a wonderful writer. Sorry about the kid talk. It bothered me before I had my daughter and now, yeah, it's all I think/talk about. If it's any consolation, we're all just waiting for our turn to insert our own charming anecdote about our own kid. Just don't tell a cute story about your cute cat or dog and say "he's like my baby!" We hate that.

I just ordered 2 of your books for my 21 year old daughters. I think you are a great role model for young women. I will be reading one of their copies. Both are in NY working for the summer. I hope they have a chanceto meet you.

Carol, I believe you and Aviva will be wonderful editions to the show. I think Bavo will have new keepers. Jill, Cindy, and Kelly had NO personality, rude, and BIZARRE. You seem so down to earth and someone everyone would love to be around. Plus, I love your sense of humor. You are so classy and elegant, then you come out wth these OMG things. I love it!

As a witty, charming, intelligent, and accomplished woman, attempting to interact with your RHONY castmates must make you feel like Jane Goodall . Day One.. Observed primates in their own habitat, there appears to be a struggle to establish alpha female dominance...lol! Don't you have 4 friends Bravo could recruit for a show?

I finally was able to catch the show last night, and I emailed my friend this morning about you and said that I think you are awesome and bust out laughing whenever someone says something ridiculous! (every other word).......then I came in and read your blog and I knew I was right!~ You seem so awesome and much different than any other housewife we have seen! Love the "i love kids" line, I have kids but always make it known that I have no interest in discussing them when Im out.......looking forward to the rest of the season.

I rarely comment on these things but you deserve kudos for your writing and humor. I am thrilled to see you on the show - so many of the ladies on these shows are badly behaved and that's the image that's thrown out there. I love that you are smart and funny and poised...just don't forget to mix it up a little so that Bravo will keep you - we need "cool cats" like you on these shows who portray a positive and realistic version of who women are. My next favorite is Aviva - she's very classy. And Bravo - if you're reading this...your viewers like the smart, funny, sane girls not the lunatics like Ramona! You made a horrible mistake in getting rid of Jill and keeping Ramona. Jill had her moments but she was smart and interesting to watch. Ramona is, quite frankly, a train wreck.

Hi Carole,

You're so pretty, smart and a pleasant addition to the show. btw. ..I love the way you handled the "kid talk" between the mothers. I don't have kids either, and I have been in that situation too many times when mothers go on and on about little Johnny! Please!! S.O.S. lol I also believe you're the only new housewife who questioned LuAnn's motives at the "drive by" lunch when she claimed that Ramona threatened her. That is definitely an exaggeration. At the time of the lunch all of the ladies knew there was a conflict between Ramona & LuAnn. When I was watching the show. . . I was shocked that such intelligent women believe EVERYTHING LuAnn says, WITHOUT question? Did it occur to anyone that LuAnn might be trying to get all of you to hate Ramona????? I believe you were the only one who questioned it. Good for you, clever girl! Also watch out for LuAnn. . . she's beautiful, smart, condescending & not to be trusted.

How refreshing to read such a well written and thoughtful blog. It was a pleasure. You seem to have a pretty good "take" on the ladies, too. I may have to watch this season after all, if they have injected a heavy dose of smart into the mix. Well, that and the fact that LuAnn got put into her place.

First off, even though I gathered that you didn't want to be known only by a memoir you wrote several years ago, I want to compliment you on it. I went through something very similar and your words about your journey were very healing. The topic I want to address is a word you said about a gentleman....I'm going to paraphrase because I dont know "exactly" what you said because I was waiting on my 4 year old to repeat it. Something about "either someone has a huge ego or a huge c@ock". Now I realize this is not a television show for children....but as a mother I have to watch things when I can so she heard the word. I'm waiting for her to repeat it when she goes to her dad's house this week. Why was this not bleeped? Penis is an anatomical word that can be explained but c@ck is slang and nasty. Don't get me wrong, I've said it but is it TV appropriate? I'm no goody goody but geeeez this should have been bleeped. If I hear pu$$y next, I guess I will have to wait til my 4 year old's bedtime to tune in. You are lovely. ;-) Just expected a "bleeeeeeep." LOL

Oh wow, you and Aviva are going to make me a fan of RHNY. I usually catch the first or second episode each new season, then hang it up. I love RHBH...But am also a new fan of NY. I love the classy behavior you and Aviva have, and how you make others comfortable around you. Its cool, chic, classy and fun!

Welcome!

It is so lovely to read a well-written blog. Thank goodness Bravo has started taking notice that even guilty pleasure viewers like smart, accomplished women. For that reason, I'll be watching RHNYC. Haven't been turning in to DBTFTW. Thanks, Carole, for joining the show. : )

FINALLY, a smart, charming, truly successful woman who doesn't talk too much because the few words she says, speaks volume (and that takes talent, self control and most importantly, intelligence).

Bravo BRAVO! You found a good one. Now this is a woman we ladies can be proud of. Now maybe we will see a woman represented as a classy, charismatic, intelligent being rather than a spoiled, deluded, over sexed, big mouthed idiot that have been forced down our throats (makes me think Bravo has mostly men writers on their staff, hmmm?)

Carol, you are the Xanax in the vortex of crazy....welcome..no really, welcome...we needed you.

Carole, It is obvious that you are going to be the Voice of Reason on this cast. In other words, you will be the one we think is reasonable and we'll read your blog to get the straight story.

You're awesome- nice to read a blog by someone who can write with style and charm. Excited to see you on the show. Btw, I'm voluntarily childless and while I love some kids, I don't really enjoy talking all about them when they're not part of the conversation...I think that goes for anyone really. Conversation is more interesting when people are opening up about THEMSELVES. So don't feel bad for that comment!
