Goodness people! she is more scottish than she is indian! why doesnt she ever talk about that?
I cant believe even native americans here on the blog calling it her "heritage".
What tribe is she from? she doesnt have a clue about any of it, like Carole said it is all for exotic sake and she is all style and no substance.
Carole just once next season, try to talk to her about contemporary art or something cultural and lets see.
Carole, you are a "friend in my head"...you are quite easy going, no fuzz, no drama, just a cool, down to earth person, love your style lady. Among the desperate, attention hungry women this season, you are unphased by the cameras, your humor is tops. Ramona has unhinged, and needs more attention than a 2 year old, or maybe, just more Pinot.... FTW.
Thank you Carole for making not only the table full of non-Indians that the correct term is Native American, but also the viewing population. LuAnn confirmed the stereotypes that we as Native people have been trying to change for years. She was embarrassing, portraying us as whooping, bloodthirsty savages. I thank you for standing up for me, and all Native Americans. You're wonderful.
Your amazing, gracious, calm, & down-to-earth! You are a affable & I am impressed time and again how poised you are around such train-wrecks. It's admirable & impressive. You are awesome & keep it real! Definitely one of my favorites!
I LOVE the way you are able to convey, so simplistically, the most appropriate (even though that's subjective) summary of things...so accurately, and when they are read I feel like, "YES.. that's exactly what happened, and that's so dead on!" and you are not yelling, interrupting, being rude or unkind, or misrepresenting anyone including yourself. You're a very likable person in all kinds of ways... the show is so lucky to have you and we are lucky to learn about you and your interesting life. You are the kind of personality that is so wonderful and enjoyable to encounter in life. I love your realness... your unpretentiousness and intelligence. You would have been the girl in high school I would have gravitated towards to hang with... and love that you are everything a couple of these other losers on the show (um, maybe some of the blonds)... are not. You are real and I hope Bravo is smart enough to realize they don't need obnoxious and annoying to pull ratings!!! Thanks for doing this show Carole! Feel lucky to get a glimpse into your life and what your life story is about; you're a pretty interesting woman!
the m&m's and pizza idea? quite fabulous. you have my vote, once again, as most favored.
by the way, you do smudge after all that toxicity walks out of your home, right?
I love having Carole on the show. So far she is the most rational, calming one. She takes things with a grain of salt and seems to want everyone to get along and have a good time. Carole, you should teach classes on your behavior to some of the other girls. They definitely need some help!
Carole you are cool but really stop harping on LuAnn, that crap is old! You really have no real beef with her except you don't like some of her ways which can be ignored.
LadyK2507I don't think Carole in harping on LuAnn she is just stating a fact. LuAnn has that "I'm better than you attitude" And Darrrrrrrrrling that can't be ignored.
I think you are great and are definately a joy to see on the show. Your blogs are great.
I do think you over reacted with Luann this week. Dont be so up tight and bring yourself to the level of looking for problems like the rest of the bunch. Your down to earth personality is why people enjoy you. Try not to become a house wife looking for issues. Indian American is not an insult, especially when one is speaking about their own heritage. As far as the other remarks , they were made because of the big deal you made out of saying that. The band you liked was far more offensive in retrospect yet no one is bashing the fact you felt they were great no matter how in appropriate they were. You had an issue with Luann and now are just trying to find issues since then. In fact it has made you look like the petty one so please try to not get pulled into that drama. We already have been pleased with the carefree attitude you have brought to the show. I hope this doesnt continue and we were incorrect in loving those qualities we have come to believe you have.
Bought your book Saturday at 2:00 PM and couldn't put it down until I finished it at 10:00 PM that night. I could completely relate to your philosophy on "Fortune" and the heart break of cancer and illness.
My mother developed cancer when I was 24 years old, at 26 I went in for a day surgery and everything went wrong and I almost died, and as soon as I got out of the hospital my family told me while I was in ICU, with a 30% chance of surviving, that my father had been dx with advanced stage prostate cancer. Over the course of seven years, I worked, got married (mainly because my parents felt they couldn't die until I had someone), and spent most of my free time doing research on cancer, taking my parents to doctors, staying in the hospital with my lap top - to keep my job - dealing with surgeries, chemo and radiation, and life threatening infections from their lack of immunity.
My parents died less than one year apart. My now, ex husband's s parents had illnesses and passed away as well during this time. Our marriage didn't stand a chance. We stayed together for 15, including our one year of dating.
I read your book and kept thinking how did she cope with all this. Then I thought, how did I cope with all this?
I don't think you ever get over the trauma of watching your parents or significance other die a slow painful death or people you love that die to soon, like your dear friends.
I am thankful that you were on this season because I'd never had read your book. Love does suck because when you lose it you lose a piece of yourself. But I am remarried and despite the risk you put on your heart, it is worth it.
You are a breathe of fresh air to this franchise.
Carole, I just read your book in two days (I have no food in the fridge, and my kid changed out of his PJ's just before my husband got home, both days.) I never read a housewife's blog before but here I am. You're pretty funny, and your story is really cool.
Keep doing what you're doing!
Carole.........what a breath of fresh air. Thank you for calling "The Countess" out her overt pompous attitude. You make me laugh and smile. I was in NYC about 4 years ago, stayed in the West Village and LOVED IT. Not surprised that you enjoy that "neighborhood" of the city. I get it. Best to you, and thank you, for keeping it real, "daaaahhhling.." LBT in CA.
No hating on LuAnne. Carole doesn't, why should you? >: ( How unclassy. "Daaaahling." Every single one of them do that, Sonja, Ramona, Heather...need I go on? Even the Housewives of fricken New Jersey do it!!!!! It's reality TV...it's fake! LMAO!
Carole, I like your blog entries -- they are funny and clever. I also think you are a genuine and sweet person. For example, you accompanied Heather to her telly appearance even though you were knackered. Perhaps you can find it in your heart to help Heather once again by reading over her blog entries before she sends them.
Your list made me laugh! So funny. Anywho, I like your expression "friend hopper". Stay classy.
Thanks so much for telling Luann, we like to be called Native Americans!!! You were right and she was wrong!!
Finally, a witty smart, true blog, from someone who does not feel the need to apoligize to anyone on the show....its just refreshing.
I find it incredibly pretentious - one might even say classless - for someone with neither blood nor heritage to announce that the Gods of Political Correctness have decreed that someone who grew up thinking she was part "Indian" is wrong not to use 'Native American". I am Muskogee Wind Clan documented back to the 1600's (look it up if you don't know what that means - start with "Alexander McGillivray") and I have never been nearly as bothered by "American Indian" as I am by poseurs like you.
RonStone see my first comment... but how does that fit the bill of "pretentious"? she is anything but that. she was attempting to do the very opposite of what you are accusing her of, no? Maybe I'm not seeing this correctly...
Ahhh Carole, while you are right about the Countless, you are not about the word Indian. I am an Indian, American Indian, or Native. When I am with Indians, I am Kalapuya. My kids are Native American, they grew up with that term. I grew up in the sixties. My Grandfather is a survivor an Indian boarding school. I was a teenager praying for the Warriors at Wounded Knee and Alcatraz. I remember when they put Leonard in prison. We were Indians then, we had a cause, we had the American Indian Movement, aka AIM. We Elders were born Indian, we will die Indian, as did Those before us. We don't think Columbus was as stupid as most historians do, we don't think he believed he was in India, we think he found us to be Of God, With God, In God, En Dio, Indian. But Lulu is Of something else altogether. Do you know she dressed as an "Indian" for Halloween?? I had no idea any one was that ignorant in this day and age, and then I saw a picture of Theresa of the New Jersey. So keep trying Carole, just do a little more homework. Masi
Ur funny , but clearly threatened by Luann and it seems you have a crush on Reid . He's the only one on Watch What Happens Live that you were weird about. Hmmm/:0|
Carole should research her own terminology before responding to someone that they are saying something incorrectly and and saying even a third graders knows that. Carole is wrong in this instance we do prefer to be called American Indians and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Very few of us refer to ourselves as Native Americans, a term coined ages ago for text books. The one coming off pretenious and rude in this situation was Carole.
Definitely a creative and refreshing blog. Carole, you bring some much-needed intelligence and class to the show. Thanks for putting the "real" back in the RHONY.
You're a great addition and love how you are not pretentious...however I can't quite understand how you would like ramona! Love everything about you except for that aspect. Btw, I didn't know the term American Indian was offensive! I guess I can tell my hubby to get off my back that watching bravo shows is killing my brain cells...I learned something new today.
As an American Indian I can honestly say that we do not find the term offensive and Carole was out of line trying to embaress Luann and put her down in front of others for using the wrong terminology when in fact she should have done her own research
I thought this was an interesting insight from an American Indian writer regarding LuAnn in the episode: http://indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/2012/08/07/other-things-said-about-american-indians-on-real-housewives-of-new-york-city-127963 It is incongruent to state pride in one's heritage while intentionally remaining ignorant about it. One of several reasons LuAnn presents as insincere and counterfeit to many viewers.
I am American Indian and personally did not find Luanns actions as offensive at all. i took them for what they were, a joke and a way to poke at Carole for being such a b**** about ther term Luann chose to describe her own heritage
The most creative blog since Housewives came to fruition!! PLEASE keep calling LuAnne on her B.S. She is so far removed from reality it's scarey and she wants to bring another child into the world! I believe she is in age denial. It's really sad once you get beyond her better then thou attitude and realize its coming from fear.
It’s funny to me that people come on these blogs post bitches about how one cast member was mean to another cast member, that cast member is fake or not classy, this cast member can do no wrong and they are above that cast member. These shows are about women who fight with one another and the comments are witty, funny and most of the time rude. You have to take this for face value, pure entertainment!
The thing I like about Carole is that she knows this about the show and plays into it without taking it or herself too seriously. She takes it with a grain of salt and for what it is, in other words she lets her mean girl out and has fun with it. Which some people who comment on this blog don’t seem to understand this and thinks this is actually how these ladies act all the time in life. They try to pass judgment and act like they know who they really are. This is a TV show and you see what the producers want you to see.
The thing about the Indian comments about Luann was funny! Understanding that Carole’s best friends are from India she might be coming from a mind set of Indians or from India and Native Americans are from America. Neither Native American nor Indian is exactly accurate. My grandparents are both full Native American and that is what they prefer to be called. So each their own and who cares. Luann is a joke half the time anyway and if you want to be judgmental I would say the savage thing or the “hey how are you chant” of hers was the only thing somewhat offensive of the whole conversation.
Rye You're wrong. The Greeks referred to Sub-continentals as Indians as the civilization began in the INDUS valley, the origin of SINDHI, HINDU, HINDUSTHAN/HINDUSTAN, HINDI, HINDUSTHANI, INDIC...etcetera, etcetera comes from that era. Tribes rarely have self-referentials..it's like imagine you lived on an isolated island by yourself, what would your name be? You wouldn't need one. The Frankish people who today are the French were named by the German people who were named by the French. Both names arose from the weapon of choice used in battle. As in "Oh no, here come those dudes with Javelins again!" One should learn at least 5 languages before deciding historical patterns have been deduced. A little learning is a dangerous thing, and Folk Etymologies are easy to create.
This blog is entertainment too. I would say you are taking yourself alittle too serious but I don't actually know you so I would hate to pass judgement.
OMG another mean girl picking on LuAnn? Have you watched the show? Carole...you are great. I love your addition to the show, you say it like you see it and you are spot on. You admitted to being attracted to crazy, which is what Ramona is. You said if you were an adult you would talk to LuAnn about her annoying habbits but you aren't so you did the same thing back to her but only in a obviously ridiculous way. I laughed my *** off. LuAnn deserves it, the ironic thing is that she will never get it. She will not see that you are reacting to her actions and words. LuAnn comes off as the one-upper. I really don't care who agrees or not. She is above her own rules and guidelines and has no respect for anyone's opinions or feelings on anything. However, she always wants everyone to respect how she feels and what she thinks, the poor thing (dripping sarcasm). Keep it up, I look forward to more honest words and actions from you. I get your humor and I love it.
Although many viewers call you "judgmental", you rarely say anything that the rest of us aren't thinking. It almost appears as if you have entered the group as a viewer yourself, rather then a participant, like you don't want to disturb the natural order of disfunction. I happen to appreciate your role, as the show does not need another member who gets repeatedly sucked into the madness. Also, if the cast seems surprised, or caught of guard by your comments, it is only because you are saying something that requires them to actually think about what they just said. Best of luck with the outcome.
to "Lmg6565" what an entertaining and insightful blog,,,hard to have that mix and remain "true." Brilliant: "disturb the natural order of disfunction"....Perfect...Thank you....
I think you're fabulous. You are the single GREATEST ADDITION TO THIS SHOW!!!!
I love you're writing, your style, your personality and finally--somebody who gives it right back to the superior crazy lunatic Countess. I love your down to earth personality.
For sheer comedy you could ask the countess (the classy one-upster queen bee) to sing at your next party with the band who so cheerfully played last week. (I want to F#4X you!)
I grew up in Oklahoma and there's actually a significant native population there and I can assure you, of all the options available, they prefer Indian over Native American because collectively they identify more with an ironic sense of humor than they do with assigning the Eurocentric term "American" to the land they used to share with each other. See, they're Asian by blood. They got here before the America contingent got here. While i respect your fight, Carole, I think you don't know what you're talking about. On the other hand, they laugh like hell at LuAnn and all the "1/16thers," or as they call them...white people.
LOVE. You seem very cool, relaxed, down to earth, kind hearted, & fun loving. Definitely someone I would hang out with! :)
As others have noted, the term "Indian" has been reclaimed by many native peoples and "American Indian" is now totally acceptable and even preferred by many from our native tribes. In fact, as a social worker here in ultra-political Portland, Oregon, I hear American Indian or even just "Indian" much more from local tribal advocacy groups than I do "Native American."
Frankly, using a general blanket term for the many different tribes/tribal nations is often frowned upon regardless of what term you choose.
So whatever, Carol.
pdxvespagirl Well said!! I would think that with Carol's supposed journalistic background she would check her facts first before calling someone out on national television about the word they prefer to use regarding their origin. You owe Luann an apology. Did Luann behave poorly when she did the war cry "yes", but she did it because she was pissed at how Carol was acting and was essentially thumbing her nose at her. By the was I didn't see any comments from Carol about Sonja saying that "Luann's family won't scalp you, they will burn down your house and ..." (I couldn't understand the rest). I found that more offensive than what Luann did.
Carole! I am so glad you are on the show!! You're the coolest and the smartest, hands down! I was most shocked at Luann's Native American "howling".... Isn't she supposed to know tact? (Oh wait, she called it "class" - red flag...) Most of all I LOVE your style!! I love just watching to see what you're going to wear!!! Thanks for being on the show!
