On that note, because I have already dealt with some tough life issues I have a much different outlook on supporting and taking care of myself as a woman. Between my first marriage and losing Jeff I have truly always believed in taking care of myself. I have never looked for the easy road. The easy road is not something I want. I am who I am today because of what I have been through and endured - it has built character in me. I know my mom would love me to settle down and have kids and technically become a stay-at-home mom, but I am too much of an entrepreneur! Even when I have kids I hope to have my businesses up and running and functioning on their own, so I have income coming in and can still care of the kids (one of the most important jobs in the world if you ask me). I tell you this because I want to encourage you to pursue your dreams and don’t let ANYONE tell you that you can’t do it!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the creative space of this business and all the opportunities it has allowed me to explore, particularly the opportunity to focus on my writing. So many of you have asked why my music wasn’t a part of the show this season. Since the release of my song was outside of the timeframe we shot the show, I will give you a little background. I've been writing ever since I was a little girl. I have a book of songs that I have continuously added to over the years. When Jeff passed away, writing was a way for me to express what I was feeling and dealing with internally. I ended up doing a business acquisition of a music-publishing catalog and had the opportunity to work with a top producer by the name of Bryan Todd. I brought my book of songs to him with the hope that my lyrics and ideas would be passed on to big artists in the music industry. We sat down to do a written session, and then a male vocal demo singer sang the song. Once I heard it I felt it was missing something; some sweetness and some country twang, if you will. I started to sing out loud during the writing session and Bryan said, “Gretch, you need to be singing this song!" Let me tell you that it took a lot of coaxing me to get behind the microphone. Once I started to sing the lyrics I found myself singing from the depths of my soul and it became a very therapeutic process for me. I was taking my pain and turning it into music - it was one of the most thrilling feelings I have ever had in my life! I have always loved music and my family is all very musically inclined. We always sit around singing and playing guitars. I know I don’t have a voice like Celion Dion and never claimed to, but Bryan convinced me that the song would resonate with the people so much more due to the tragic loss I had suffered. I am now grateful for that extra little push from him to go for it! I then decided to take my song and use it as way to help save someone else's life. I felt so hopeless when Jeff was sick and then when he passed away. The way I built back hope in my life was by helping others. Download the song on iTunes, and proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Jeff Beitzel Memorial Fund I started in Jeff's honor. Thank you all for your support of this cause. I was just recently asked to do my first live performance, opening for Nicole Scherzinger, the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls. The performance was held at a club in L.A., in front of one of the hardest critics in the business ... Perez Hilton. (What a super sweet guy he is in person.) The night before the performance I found myself on a phone call with a decision to make. Should I perform, knowing that I have never sang live before, or should I wuss out and watch the opportunity pass me by? Well, I went for it! As scared as I was, so nervous my hands were shaking, I did it! And I even got kudos from Perez afterward! So needless to say, when opportunity comes knocking there is a reason for it and you have to go for it! There will always be haters, but I have learned to let those people be my motivators and then kill them with kindness (they just don’t know what to do with that response.)
Gretchen, I am a huge fan and I just think you are the funniest housewife on any of the housewife shows. I love the individual interviews with you. You are the only housewife trying to add some humor rather than saying something nasty like some of the other housewives. My husband is from Michigan and I know these areas you've traveled to and I really feel sorry for your loss. Good for you on all your business ventures. I can't wait to order from your cosmetic line. Keep sharing your joy and your smiles.
You've got the right attitude. All the best to you Gretchen! Tune-out the negative and take in the positive!
-Elizabeth
Gretch..so good to hear from you again. Love ya lots. Stay the way you are. I cannot wait to place my first order from Gretchen Christine Beaute!
Gretchen, I appreciate your efforts and attitude in supporting those who have struggles. You will be blessed. I was diagnosed with stage 4 thyroid cancer which has changed my life in many ways. Some of those changes are bad but so many are good. I am so much more compassionate now. I look for ways to help others, I volunteer, donate, pray, mediate and always remember to show my gratitude for each day I have. You are inspirational. Thank you for giving me some giggles each week. I wish you all good luck and support in your exciting new ventures. AND I love your song.... :)
Gretchen, I have never commented on blogs before, I just read them and get upset or happy, but this time, I just had to let you know how motivating your blog is. Thank you so much for all your positive thoughts and attitude. Thanks for being a good example of how you can always and still be the better person. It's really sad that some people still hold on to grudges but you are right on about surprising them with your responses. Don't ever change, keep true to yourself!
Gretchen, I just love you and your attitude. I lost my husband with cancer the same time you lost Jeff. You are my inspiration because I know all of the emotions you are going thru. Last week when you cried with Vicky's daughter I cried also. I certainly understood all of your feelings for her. You are a special person and I am sure your joy touches lots of people .
I love this show! I am addicted to it. All the girls are wonderful women. You are just different. Theres a certain spunk about you. Good luck with the make up line I can't wait to see it
You are a true inspiration and such a wonderful role model for so many women out there! I wish you the best in all that you do! I can't wait for tomorrow night’s episode, your laugh is contagious! :) CHeers to all of your success....much love from Dallas, Texas
Gretchen, Your blog this week was a breath of fresh air compared to the others, thank you! I think you finally have your head screwed on right, in trying to keep away from all the garbage. I just wish you would open your eyes to the situation with Slade, you could do soo much better!
Gretchen, you are awesome! I watch the show just to see who's tail you are on next! lol! Best wishes! love the song!
Dear Gretchen,
You are so upbeat, postive and kind , simply put you're the best!!! I loved what you wrote in your blog about not letting the b*tches get you down and I loved hearing your song!!! You truely have talent and a beautiful voice and soul. Best wishes in your Beauty line and in all you do!!
a loyal fan, Heidi Franz Seattle, WA
Your song was beautiful.I never thought of you as a singer. What a nice surprise.Keep up the good work.Keep doing what you are doing because it has gotten you so far. Just keep laughing at the other housewives. You are the only one who can take what they dish out and come back stronger than ever, laugh at them and with them and still get the little digs in!
Gretchen, I think you are precious and wish you the best of luck with your upcoming business opportunities! I love watching you week after week and wish Bravo would show this side of you more often! Have a great weekend darlin!
Gretchen! You and Slade have incredible chemistry!! Host a show together already! What about a real estate investment show? :) I have many other ideas too! Hey Mr. Producer?!!!
Gretchen, Adversity shows you what you're made of & you are obviously made of everything one needs to lead not only a successful life, but a meaningful one.
As for those who foam at the mouth about you: they are clearly folks with axes to grind (ex's, friends of ex's, bitter cast mates) or, sadly, unstable types.
Best of luck in your many endeavors and know that you have a built in audience for whatever you will promote.
Gretchen, I'm so glad you finally blogged. I get on every day after the shows until I see yours come up. I always love hearing what you have to say after a show. You are very "real" and it is very refreshing. I think you are a beautiful person inside and out and I'm so glad that you keep your humor even when times are tough. As I know you have heard on here many, many times...all of these other women are so jealous of you. They see that you are truly happy and are a good person and they can't stand it. Keep it up girl!
Luv ya! Trista
Gretchen, I've been watching you for the past couple years and no matter what anyone has said, I've been on your side! I know we don't see a lot of your life, but what we do see is so positive and uplifting and... funny too! No, you're not perfect, but no one is and that's what's so great about seeing you every week with a smile on your face. It's truly inspiring to see someone who has been through what you have been through be so positive and keeping moving on, keep standing up when you get knocked down. So good luck with everything, I wish you the best!
Gretchen, I think your a great addition to the show, you are funny, beautiful, smart etc, etc, but I didn't agree with the stint with you and Lynn, about her daughter Alexa. I'm a mother and from experience, people with no children are the first one's to tell you, that you are doing wrong by your children. No one truly knows for sure until they have one of their own, how it really is, period. I think that you can give constructive criticism, instead, and stay out of it, per say. Best wishes, love the show!!
Gretchen, I love your positive attitude. You are by far the best "housewife" on the show. I think this is the first season in which all housewives have completely different views and personalities. This is what makes it so interesting to watch! You seem so true to yourself and your beliefs. I too keep coming back everyday after the show airs waiting to read your post.
Gretchen, love your positive attitude, you don't need someone like Vicki bringing you down, how dare she say your makeup line won't be successful, pay no attention to her, she can stay in her on little world of insurance. Much success to you in anything you do. Gretchen you are by far my favorite on any of the Housewife shows, on that note, I will go check out your song. Best wishes to you. Take care.
Hi Gretchen, kudos to you for staying positive, how dare Vicki say your makeup line isn't going to be successful, what does she know besides insurance. You are by far my favorite Housewife from all shows, there is too much negativity coming from the other Housewifes, You do what you like and pay no attention what anyone says. Many blessings and best wishes to you and all that you do. Take care.
Angelica.
Gretchen, you are my inspiration! I have to say your positive attitude is a breath of fresh air. I have loved watching you from the first time you were on the show. Don't let those other housewives get to you and stay positive. Can't wait to get my hands on your beauty line. I love makeup and have been taking your advice to take better care of myself. Lots of love from Tennessee!
hmmmm. Jo and Slade are together...Jo tries to be a "singer" .....flash forward to Gretchen and Slade together....and WHOA! what do you know??? what a freaky coincidence.
Gretchen- I have had a rough week and reading this blog has been uplifting. You are the best housewife in OC- good luck to you in your ventures. I have been inspired and now want to go do something!
Grecthen, I just think your the most real and down to earth on the show. My heart goes out to you on the loss of Jeff. Please keep in touch with those kids though. I wish you all the best in your future, no matter what that may be. I feel that you have alot of class while still being young and fun, which is how it should be. I feel that you make good judgements and have an endearing soul. You can see just how good your heart really is, reality show or not. It always seems to be in the right place. Keep you head held high, and don't let anyone discourage you. Misery loves company, and people who are jealous and miserable always feel the need to knock others down to make themselves feel better. Ignore 'em, and just keep looking up.
This is the first season I started to watch, and I knew that the show did not completely reveal the true Gretchen. I really identify with you, Gretchen, in a way. My mother passed away to cancer when I was an adolescent and it tore my family apart (5 children). As I started getting older I clung onto my fitness routine and my classes. I give you so much respect and kudos for revealing the true inspiration that you are. It got worse before it got better, right. Positive cognition is hard to attain in a crisis, but once you do you realize your opportunities are endless.
You go Gretchen!!!!
You are such a sweet and classy lady! No wonder you are the most loved housewife. Keep creating the positive vibes around you.
You are the only housewife who is smart, beautiful and nice. God bless.
Dream big indeed! You are doing a terrific job as a young entrepreneur, and I wish you much success in all your inspiring ventures.Your song is gorgeous, as are you. "The world according to Vicki", all her rules and negative points of view on work and life are inconsequential in comparison to the work, love and positive energy you bring to the show, and I imagine to all those you know. You are great!
Gretchen, you are a role model to millons of people. I love your spirit, your positive energy, and how you can stand all those rude comments being made behind your back. My husband has promised me that for my birthday he would get me a whole set of your make-up line and get me your song on itunes!! I'm a huge fan of yours dear. Keep up the great work Gretchen!!! I can't wait for tonights episode and to comment on your blog!!
Gretchen, I think you are a breath of fresh air. You are what makes the show in my opinion. You are fun, beautiful, silly, witty, with a great sense of humor. I wish you all the best with your make-up line and other ventures. I look forward to watching you every week. Thanks for a great season. Have a wonderful day..
hey Gretchen i must admit i didn't like u last season but i think u rock u go girl just 1 thing i know my opinion doesn't matter but i think u should not!!!! Marry slade he is useing u sweety wish u all the best
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the song! It's absolutely beautiful! I've been a fan of yours since day one, but now I am absolutely a diehard fan! You are unstoppable! Keep reaching, girl!
Love you my sister.....you are the BEST! I wish you so much luck in your new business and life....Show VICKIE how to REALLY work hard--let me say...I've sold insurance..and pretty much you make a sale and fools continue to pay a premium on something they will never use...but with your business, you have to REALLY sell a person on why they should buy your product and continue to convince retail stores to carry your line---THAT'S REAL WORK--TAKE THAT VICKIE--Any who....I know you will do well. And teach Tamara and Alexis how to be classy, yet sexy. They don't get it.....We love you here in the "ATL"......
Gretchen, I think it's great that you are working on a makeup line. I would buy your makeup just bc I'm such a fan of yours. I think all you gals have something special to bring to the table. You and Vicki are my favorites. Vicki genuinly cares about you. I certainly don't think that Vicki was putting you down about your business decisions, she just has some concerns and does not want to see you get taken advantage of. Vicki is a real role model. We Looooooove you both. Keep it up!!!
Gretchen, It was great to see you meeting with Vicki regarding your Makeup line. The both you you are my favorite housewives. The other wives maybe negative. Vici is very upfront...you have to remember she is a business women who doesn't sugar coat anything & cuts right down to the chase. I don't think she is trying to put you down at all. She is very sincere & genuily cares aboout you. I can't believe that others really feel she is putting you down. Vicki is a very smart women & an awesome role model. It's great to see women who want to succeed & be the best they can be.
Ahhh, now I like you!!! Hita, you're about as old as my own daughters. So, wanting to like you at the beginning wasn't real hard anyway. I'm a very maternal Chicana mom. However, this blog made me realize what a sweet, caring, open hearted person you are. How wonderful of you to make your parents so proud. You will continue to be blessed. Little sister, take down the blog. We all know what happened and the truth is out. Let this be your ascent to the (by now proverbial) "high road". Hm, that term will never have the same meaning. In His strong Love -- Plays Fair
Gretchen..Just say NO to Slade. (if that's what he's going to ask) You are too good for him. Really. Focus on yourself for once.
What a wonderful outlook you have on life! It really is an amazing way to think and to be. I truly appreciate your ability to try many things especially in this econonmy because while you do have a tough road with something like makeup at least you try....if more people were willing to try like you, maybe this econonmy would start pulling out again. Everyone has just clamped down and don't want to spend money but we have to pick up and start moving again, just like you have done. Now the only thing...I just don't see what you are saying about the job thing...Vicki isn't saying that you don't work...she is just saying that she works a more restrictive schedule then other people in the group. Everytime she brings it up it is because someone else has brought up why she didn't go to a lunch or a vacay with her husband. She was only defending herself from being attacked! I would end up saying the same thing to someone who kept asking me why I didn't go to a luncheon that wasn't held on a weekend so I could go. It seems to me that everyone has been deliberately inconsiderate to her this season and then wondering why she says, "I work" I think she is being nice actually as she could have totally attacked everyone for excluding her especially how everyone hurt her so badly and dissed her on the girl's weekend but then for SanFran which was Tamera's gig everyone went without the men. Sounds very deliberate to me.
Gretchen I always have like you on this show. However you seem to be getting rapped up like Tamara. I am confused about you seeking guidance from Vicki about business. And she gave you good advice. I am a business woman also and what Vicki said is correct. But what you should do is seek a business consultant and get their expertise on starting up a makeup line in todays economy. It will be okay as long as you're not trying to get rich from it. And as far as Slade. I am with Vicki you can do better.
Plesantly surprised by the song! It was very heart-felt and genuine. You are by far my favorite to watch - always entertaining and make us laugh. Jury is still out on Slade...wonder if you will clear the air one day about him. Many rumors swirling around and we would love to hear his side of the story.

Gretchen, I truley wish you all the best and success that life has to offer. I enjoy your blogs and too make a decision to not let anyone take my joy away. I choose not to trash talk any of the other members on the show as that results in a lot of wasted energy. I hope you still stay in contact with Jeena. She has a lot of wisdom and can be a true mentor. BTW Love your fashion and dogs.
