Jill Zarin

Debbie Downer

NYC Housewife Jill Zarin shares her thoughts on the OC vacay controversy.

December 21, 2009

First let me say that as a reality star myself, I find it hard to separate "real" from "TV real" sometimes. I can only blog on what I see on TV, so girls from OC ... don't kill me!

I can totally relate to what is going on in this episode. Let's review how it started. Vicki was in Florida for a business trip and invited the girls to come join her for a few days. Period. This was not a couples trip. Trust me, she would not invite the ladies and their men on a trip anywhere. Ever. For the girls to bring along their spouses without Vicki A. knowing or B. approving is just rude.

We all know how much the men dislike Vicki so why would they want to come on the trip with her anyway? Just to torture her? She should have called Don ASAP to come to her rescue but since he works full time, he probably couldn't do it on such short notice. This trip was during the week and not a weekend.

I like Vicki's hair in the salon by the way. Did you? Tamra needs to be a little more sensitive to Vicki and I see she is trying. I think Simon needs to stop blaming Vicki for Tamra's behavior. Tamra is a strong woman who is exerting her independence. He is a chauvinist and I can predict problems between them down the road because of his behavior. They need therapy. Vicki is not the cause and should not be a scapegoat.

I met Slade and he seems very nice. He does like being the extra housewife and accused Vicki of wanting the attention. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? Come on Slade ... you are filming on the show and even doing one-on-one interviews? Don't throw stones in glass houses. (I seem to be saying that a lot these days!)

Jill - Kudos for all of your down to earth good advice, delivered with respect and affection! I am most "on board" with your financial and parenting advice to Lynne. I have been longing to say the same things myself. Where is she as far as the blogs go anyway? Again Jill thank you for being a much needed voice of reason. From what I have seen in your show's preview, I hope that you and Bethenny will be able to repair your relationship. Your friendship was truly the most real, in my opinion, out of all of the housewives. You really do care for one another and good, real frienships are hard to find. Wishing you and your family the best. LG

Dear Jill -

Tonight is the first night I've finally gotten to read your guest blog on the OC episodes; I only knew you from the NYC shows. As usual, I agree with your take on everything 100%. You are down to earth, and honest without being cruel. Your warmth, generosity and honesty showed through in every episode of your shows, and continues to show in your writing: Jill Zarin simply does not "do" phony, and I love that about you. I look forward to the next season of RHONYC and hearing more of you and your Mom's words of wisdom! Every time I watched the scene with Bethenny and your Mom giving Bethenny advice, I cried. ;) BTW, I went to your website and saw the cover of your new book. What a beautiful photo of you, your sister and your Mom! I'm sure you will treasure it always. Love you Jill!!! Hugs to you, Ally and Bobby!!! xoxoxo

Yes! The voice of reason! I always knew I liked you, Jill (you're my favorite N Y Housewife) - because, like Vicki on the O C Housewives, you are smart and sensible and down to earth. If only the otheer housewives would listen to you, I think you could straighten them all out and help them all get along. You GO, girl!

Jill I just love you, you are straight forward and honest, that's how most people should be. Sometimes I think that the players in the game are trying too hard to compete. Your comments regarding the cast of Orange County are so true. Sometimes I just want to go through the tv and hit some of the women. I can't wait for NY and ATL, and hopefully NJ to come back on.

Hey Jill. You make me laugh just like Gretchen makes you laugh. Be honest Jill. If a women, any women drinking alcohol or not was flirting with your " Bobbie ", you would stop it in a split second. At least Alexis said in her Blog that she gave the women three chances to leave her husband alone. Another point I would to add is that your comments regarding Alexis and Jim's marrige were out of line. They have been married relatively a short time, and they appear very happy. As time passes Alexis will become more confident with herself and Jim will learn to listen more. Thats's what marriage is... two people growing together. As Jim said " This is our reality ". Meaning to others like you, step back and keep your judgments to yourself. Now did you read your mothers book ?

Did Jill really say, "Don't Hate The Player Hate the Game!"
AHHHHAHAHA I love it!

Jill,

You rock! You are dead on in your opinions as usual. You are my absolute favorite housewife and NYC remains my favorite Housewife segment. I can't wait for the new season. Watching NYC is a little like revisiting home (once upon a time I lived in Mamaroneck). You are the single housewife who acts "old money" even though you aren't. (Down to earth, gracious, honest.) By the way, what's up with Ramona? I saw her on HSN and she was so QUIET. Maybe that was her third persona: Shh-mena.

Jill, you are so awesome. Of ALL the Bravo housewives YOU are my favorite! I love your honesty, level head, wit and humor. Can't wait to see your new season in the spring.

Jill ... of ALL the housewives coast to coast YOU are my favorite. Can't wait to follow you on your new season in the spring.

Finally someone that tells it like it is! Out of all the seasons and all the Real Housewives, YOU are my favorite. I can't wait until another Real Housewives of New York.

HEY JILL- IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE A GUEST BLOGGER WHY DON'T YOU BLOG EVERY WEEK????

Jill, I love you.....of all the seasons you are my favorite housewife!!

i compleatley agree with u. i thought they were rude and was not fair that vikki wanted to do something fun with the grlz and the guys came. if the guys couldnt stay home and didnt want the grlz to go without them...then the grlz should of not come. one for vikki.

Jill...I love ya! Cant wait for the new season...you guys are much more interesting then the other housewives (well minus the retired model,,sorry dont know her name) The teasers make it seam as if you and Bethany arnt friends anymore...I hope not...cuz you guys are so funny together!...well keep the great blogs coming...

Jill
I love your show! I am looking forward to the return of THE REAL HOUSEWIVES. This other stuff is getting old....

Jill I really like an love you are so honest an please tell the house wifes to stop haten

Jill,

I love how you say "Don't hate the player, hate the game." That's classic. You are my favorite of ALL housewives!

Maribel

Yeah tell those controlling house husbands like it is let your ladies breath i felt like i agreed with vicki but then vicki had to have that lil slumber party and disrespect jeanna like that growup already ! Jill i like you and Bethany !!!

this is why i like Jill she calls it like she see it

you hit the nail on the head Jill. I never used to like Vikki before, but now I am seeing another side of her and she is growing on me. Tamra needs to be a better friend to Vikki.

Wow - you are 100% accurate on everything!!!

WAY TO GO JILL!!!! couldn't have said it better myself...those meen need to loosen the leashes on their wives...unless there is not trust...as the saying goes, if you love something, set it frre, if it is meant to be, it will come back to you....

Jill, Right on! The only men that I know that don't "let" their wives travel without them, are the ones that are fooling around themselves, and know what kind of trouble is out there to be had. My husband goes away on guy trips and I go away on girls trips, but we never worry, because we have nothing to worry about. Those poor girls. They are missing so much fun. I am Christian, but I hate it when people hold up their Bibles and try to make me think that it makes them seem perfect...that new guy is rude and makes me very uncomfortable with the way he speaks to his wife; he treats her like a piece of property not a partner, but then again, she acts like one, so you get what you get. I can't wait to see all of you lovely ladies from NYC after the OC. We are not really like that here in SoCal!

You are so hilarious, Jill! You blog like you talk...too funny :) But, I agree with you 100%.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking!!! You're awesome.

You are right and most of the time are the only REAL HW who makes any sense- except that I am not sure that I can agree with you on Gretchen-I am not sure if she has good business sense but no taste in men, or simply no taste,

I totally agree 100% Glad I'm not the only way appalled by the other housewives/husbands behavior!

Great comments..of course NY'ers are best dressed, so your comments are spot on! I disagree in regards to Simon, I used to love Tamara but when the money got tough she started bailing- out on him. He loves/ed his wife and tried to protect her. I hope you and Bethany make amends- I loved your friendship with her. New years Resolution maybe? She needs a savvy godmother for the new baby. Think 20 years from now- will your fight matter or your friendship?

You said it right! I feel exactly the same about this episode. The men are very insecure. If they were secure about their relationship with their wives, they would not have crashed an All Womens getaway. I think they are mad how successful Vicki is. Even if Vicki wasn't with Donn, she could still afford the Coto lifestyle. And that scares the men. As you see it, none of those other wives could afford that Coto lifestyle with out the men or prior men in their lives.

Thank you, Jill!!

Vicky is surrounded by weak women and catty men! Honestly, if your girlfriend sets up a girlfriend's weekend, the parameters are pretty clear. If you can't honor them, don't go! Don't expect Vicky to be happy about it, and then talk about her after you've disrespected her!!

...and how ironic that the men sat around the table talking about not being catty; yet why were they there? Why do they feel so threatened by Vicky that they try to put her, and her marriage down? Who's really controlling, manipulative and insecure? Stand up, stooges. You've successfully raised the bitchy bar!

P.S.Kudos to Don for respecting Vicky's space and wishes, and to Vicky for holding her ground.

I absolutely agree with you. Those men were just so rude. I don't care that Vicki went out with another couple. They didn't disrupt her plans. They saved her from utter disappointment.

Jill you are off the hook! Straight to the point and random compliments! I agree, sometimes in reality tv you don't see the whole story as simon has suggested about the spat between tamra and gretchen! court summons? I know it's hard to get a private moment when everything is recorded and only the juicy stuff is shown on tv. You have to also remember OC is a different life style from NYC...we have winters..they have summer 24/7. The whole appeal of the real housewives is their maintenance and luxurious lifestyle most people cannot afford in this economy...Being from NY is fabulous because of the style, culture, ethnicity, food, ect. I think these shows tend to focus on the competition of materialism...which i find interesting....They need to make a real housewives of dallas or some midwestern state next!

Hi Jill.. love you!! How that beautiful daughter of yours doing?

Kudos, Jill! I'm in total agreement with your thoughts about the OC Florida trip. I think Simon needs to deal with his feelings of inadequacy if he has any hope of saving his marriage. The biggest offender of showing too much skin is Alexis. Ironic for someone who worries about the devil and temptation getting between her marriage. Maybe this is why she and Jim have trust issues. Looking forward to seeing the new season of your show!!

I have so much respect for you as a person, lady, a friend, and a human being. Kudos to you Jill. You are so classy. I love you!

Luv ya Jill because u have NO tolerance for BS! You tell it like it is!

You are so wise Jill. I can't wait until the RHNY returns.

You totally have common sense...I love you!!!!!

Thats right Jill, tell it like it is!!

Jill you say it like you see it, which is how we as the viewers/fans see the show. As for the whole couples attending a girls weekend invite, what got me so annoyed watching the show was, the blatant rudeness over how the invitation was accepted by Gretchen, Tamra & Alexis. They claim to have such a sisterhood between the wives, but then they throw one of the housewives under the bus so to say to appease their husbands. This one episode of this season was truly an ugly one, not fitting the whole I have "class" portrayal this show has tried to show over the years.

There's nothing wrong what so ever for close couples wanting to be together all the time if that's how they truly feel. However what I find interesting is, if they as a couple are so adamant about how they feel as a couple within their marriage and such, then why go on a show where it's not about them as a couple ? makes no sense to me.

Jill, just read your blog and I agree with everything you said. GO JILL GO111111

Jill,

I love everything about you!!! Everything that you said is 100% accurate. If you can't trust your spouse then you need to get help with your jealousy or get a new spouse. I don't understand why these women are so dependent upon men. It's a bad message to young women that you can't do anything, even a two day vacation without a man by your side.

Although Vicki is far from my cup of tea she is not the reason for Simon and Tamra's problems. I think that Slade is a famewhore and wants to be on T.V., although I do belive that he really cares for Gretchen as they have been togther for a long time now. I can't wait to see you and Kelly and Ramona and The Countess, Bethanny and the new housewife.

Jill,

You are so my favorite H.W.!! I agree that Vicki's wishes as a host were disrespected! And I agree that the O.C. women do dress too provacotive and skimpy! It gets a little tacky after awhile to me! Hope you had a wonderful Holiday season and a blessed 2010!!

Jill, everything you said is the absolute truth. I loved Vicki this season, she did seem to be kind of mean all of the other episodes but I am so tickled how she & Donn are getting along this season. I would have bet that they would end up in divorce by now but now it seems like Simon & Tamra are headed that way

Bravo! Jill, you seem to have the same opinion that I do after watching this train wreck. I feel so sorry for ALL of the housewives who simply have forgotten the truly important things. It's ok to have girl friends and still be good wives and mothers. In fact, it simply solidifies everything and gives you a more well-rounded perspective on life in general.

And, for the record, I love Bobby and Don. They are REAL husbands who encourage their wives to be all that they can be. They are proud of their wives and not threatened by them.

You are, by far, my most favorite housewife on ANY of the series. I don't think you have a mean bone in your body. You are competitive, but I think that's a good thing. And, I love how much you love your family. It makes my heart feel all warm and fuzzy.

So glad to hear you like the snow! I do, too! Gosh, whenever snow is predicted, everyone just moans and groans as though it were the worse thing in the world. I love snow and how pretty everything looks.

Jill,

Well said. I want to see all of the "we only travel together" couples in about 10 years. It is marriage not prison.

You said it Jill. I agree.

Well said Jill!! You always have a very good perception. Can't wait to ur back!

....and this is why i love you, Jill & the NY series.
