Spencer, Ryan, Simon

This is a fun episode, because you all get to meet Spencer. He's a smart, loving , funny boy! He is a lot like Simon, he is very quiet and you can see his mind ticking away all the time. He is the first one to tell me every day "Mom, you look beautiful" or he wants to give his toys and money away to someone that really needs it. He is a very kind-hearted kid. However, he is very stubborn and can stick to his guns to the end if he doesn't want to do something. He loves video games, he would spend all day playing them. He also loves baseball and is looking forward to this season. Spencer has a great head on his shoulders at 7 — so I'm sure he will go far in life.

I know that to a lot of you, it might seem that Simon is a little tough on Ryan, but he is not. He just wants the best for Ryan, and I think he is finally getting it. Ryan is a free spirit and would live off the earth if he could, Simon is very motivated and strives to be better all the time.

Given their different personalities, it is only natural there would be friction between the two. As Ryan's mom and Simon's wife I am put in the middle and sometimes my judgment gets clouded. That is why I let Simon go over the rules (contract) with Ryan alone. Of course Simon and I went over them first before it was presented to Ryan so we were on the same page. After all, Ryan is 21 not 5.

I met Simon at a cowboy bar in Anaheim about 13 years ago. I stole his parking space! Once inside, I saw him on the dance floor doing the "Tush Push" and thought WOW...that boy can move! He came up to me at the bar and started talking, I told him right away that I had a 7-year-old son (that usually scares guys) and he was fine with it. We sat and talked for hours I gave him my phone number and he called me that night to make sure I got home safely. He took me out on a boat 2 days later and we have been together ever since. He is real gentlemen, opens doors, stands up when you come to a table, brings me little gift just because, tells me I'm beautiful every day. HOW DID I GET SO LUCKY?

And so, there we are at dinner, and in comes Ryan, still without a job, and we suggest he work at Burger King. Look, if you're 21 years old, and living back at home — YOU NEED TO HAVE A JOB. Ryan was taking advantage of NOT working for a while. He was staying out late and sleeping all day. That was not going to fly in this house. We had to put some heat under him before it got out of control. I didn't care if he worked at Burger King at this point...Just get a job!
