Peggy Tanous

Peggy talks about her return to the runway (and her crazy arm).

on Apr 23, 20110

Hi Bravo blog readers! Thanks for your support and for reading my blog. Hope everyone had a happy Easter or nice Passover!

This episode was really fun for me! When you first see me, Micah and I are meeting with Top Chef Master and restaurant owner Susan Feniger! We went to her restaurant Border Grill in Santa Monica to discuss Susan being our chef for the annual chef's dinner we host. We were referred to Susan, because she was on 'Top Chef Masters,' but we were not aware that Susan primarily cooks Mexican cuisine. Micah absolutely loves Mexican food and eats chips and salsa daily (not to mention we make Mexican food a few times a week), but for our chef's dinner we usually like to serve more formal cuisine with high end wine pairings. For this reason, we were both initially having a tough time envisioning eating tacos while drinking Silver Oak wine! Thankfully, Susan brought out so many dishes viewers didn't even see, and we were able to take Micah's suggestion and marry the formal with the Latin pallet! She was so great and by the end of our meeting she and Micah were cracking jokes and coming up with crazy drink concoctions! Next week you will see what creative dishes we all came up with. I definitely recommend Susan, and if you are in the Santa Monica area make sure to visit Border Grill The best Mexican food in LA!

I loved Slade's birthday surprise to Gretchen. That was so sweet and romantic! I always think presents from the heart are better than material gifts. And the painting his friend did of Gretchen is beautiful! I have to say Slade is also a very talented artist. When the four of us had dinner on last week's episode, Slade told us he paints and Gretchen showed us some of the things he has painted on her phone. I was really impressed, and I think he should pursue painting as a possible career if he loves doing it!

It was so funny to see Vicki talking to Brianna about Vegas. They have a really sweet relationship, and I can only imagine how I will be when my daughters want to run off to Vegas for the weekend. Vicki is a great mom and has instilled good values in her kids. It was also nice to see Vicki and Alexis talking about the mace incident and trying to put the past in the past and move forward. I think we are seeing a softer side of Vicki this year!

Tacos sound so good! :) I hope the party went really well. I was pleasantly surprised with the Border Grill when I went there in Santa Monica. I think because I got it mixed up with On the Border. lol. But I have to say that Javier's is the best Mexican I've tasted so far. You must try the enchiliadas de vegetales if you haven't already.

Peggy, you rock! I love you calling out Alexis...she really needs to be humbled. And I can tell it's all jealously with her. She's being vindictive to you because she's not getting all the attention anymore. And a TRUE FRIEND would NEVER say her doctor could have done better! Your 'girls' ROCK, TOO! So glad you're on the show this season. You and Tamra are my FAVS!

Loved the crazy arm. You were trying so hard.But... Nobody's perfect. You look like you could be (perfect), so it's cool that you can laugh at yourself. Interesting meeting with the Chef you chose. I guess you didn't really do your research about her? You just thought that since she is a professional chef,... ummm... I don't know... what did you think would happen when you interviewed a chef who specializes in high end Mexican Cuisine? Oh well, like I said - nobody's perfect.

Deserttrat, if I were you I would make sure I am reading the comment right before posting a comment. I never said Tamra ok, I said that Peggy writing that she will not eat Tacos and wine was also upsetting because I dont know about you but the rest of the mexicans I know do not just eat tacos. Also, what the rest of the mexicans here are trying to say is that before saying something like that on TV they should think about it first and that they should have done a research of the cheff. Also, you are right there is a lot of other issues going on but this is how it starts us not putting a stop to ignorant comments.

Peggy......I just want to take the time to say that I admire you for opening up & sharing your experience with post partum depression, not only on the show itself for the world to see, but also for the documentary you participated in while on the show. I had my only son in 2008, I was 28 turning 29, and to my complete shock, I also had post partum depression, and it was the most difficukt experience of my life. I had never felt so alone with my emotions, and yet I have the most supportive, loving husband a girl could have. Just like in your case. I also had a similar experience, having my depression focused on MYSELF, and never had so much as a thought of any harm towards my son at all. It was scary, and I felt so ashamed that I did not tell anyone except my husband, for fear of judgment. Because of my secrecy and shame towards having post partum, I now believe that this topic deserves and desperately NEEDS as much attention as possible, so that others are prepared for that possibility, and also know that they need to tell people and get treatment & support. So thank you so much for being honest and open about such a difficult experience, I truly admire your strength. You are a wonderful mother, and I enjoy watching you on the show very, very much. You are a genuine person with which I can relate. I wish you the best of everything in life.

Thank you for acknowledging both Passover and Easter!

I think you're a great addition to the show and I've enjoyed seeing you each week. I didn't find your husband's comments offensive and I think some of the people responding to this blog need to relax. It's just food.

Really MexgirlfromHou??? reading that Tamra wouldn't eat Tacos and wine is also very upsetting...I am a Mexican girl from San Diego and think she is funny. All these Mexicans with hurt feelings have to get over themselves. Good God with all the other issues impacting Latinos...who cares about this???

If you and Alexis have been great friends for years why are you always back stabbing and two-facing her? With a friend like you she don't need enemies!! Just saying...if my "friend" treated me the way you treat her, I would no longer consider her my "friend". My case and point...read your own blog and listen to your own interviews!!

I just love you and your sweet family!!! So glad that you are taking up for Tamra and the infamous "kiss"!! That Tamra is so fun and crazy, but I am positive that she wouldn't look for a relationship with Fernanda since she has Eddie Judge!!!!! I am glad you are not just taking Alexis' word on how everyone is personality wise. You are seeing for yourself how they are!! Can't wait to see what else is in store for you guys this week!!!

Peggy,

You are a wonderful addition to the show this season! I think that you seem very down to earth, and you don't get caught up in all of the immature drama that a lot of the other housewives seem to love. It is great that you have given Tamra a chance; despite everything that the other girls say about her. You and Tamra are my favourites by far, and it is clear that you ladies get along well!

I don't think your comments about Mexican food seemed ignorant at all. Obviously they were taken out of context and the viewer doesn't see the big picture. I was disappointed to see so many viewers post comments regarding that. These people who are saying that you were being judgemental are misinformed.

I don't normally post on these blogs, but I just wanted to write that you are doing a wonderful job and are really showing a refreshing change from the stereotype that has been portrayed on this show in the past. It's clear that you have a strong marriage, and that you love your children dearly. I really respect that!

Keep it up! God Bless.

Peggy, I appreciate you so much. You are so brave to come forward and tell your story about your struggle with postpartum depression. I also appreciate all of the holistic tips you provide. You are like a breath of fresh air! I am so glad you are on the show. If we could just get rid of Alexis and Gretchen and bring back Lauri and Lynn you guys would be the perfect cast!

Your speaking abilities were awesome!! I was so impressed! I think if you keep working part time you will get out of the baby blues FAST! Yes we love our babies but as mothers we need a small break to rejuvinise ourselves. Without shots. Lol. You are so great to watch! I wish we could see more of you on the show!

You should of done your research on the chef before you even sat down to try out the food. Mexican food can be high end. Please do your research before you go off about tacos and salsa as being Mexican food.

As an American of Mexican descent (Chicana) I dont even eat chips and salsa daily. Mexican Gourmet/Cuisine may look thrown together and cheap to you ad your husband, but I assure you it is not. You can destroy a beautiful meal with one pinch too many or the wrong specification of a certain ingredient. You made Ms Finager look like a line cook, she is a top chef and her milleu (not pallate) is Mexican not Latin. Mexicans both rich and poor wouldnt even use Taco Bell for a pool party (thats just tacky) Those kind of places are for when you are on the go and want something cheap and quick. You would've t hink Ms Finager recommended a taco bender for your fancy dinner. Sheesh. You are a California Native as am I (all the way to my great grandparents) they should let you get a sneak peek of the episode before it gets you guys in hot water. I like you both from what I've seen on the show. But it looks bad and a little ignorant to pigeon hole an ethnic syle. Take a trip to Mexico City - you can't throw a rock without hitting a World Renowned Chef who cooks only Mexican Food - and not a taco or chips in sight

Do you think tacos is all Mexicans eat? You really needed to do your research before you went to meet the chef. The internet can be a wonderful tool. You and your husband wouldn't have had to look ignorant.

As a Hispanic I have to admit that the "pool party" comment upset me. As if there aren't any high end restaurants in Mexico. Yeah, Mexicans just have "pool parties" for weddings, quinceneras, birthdays, and eat tacos all day and for every meal. That's ridiculous and very narrow minded. Mexicans have high end parties and elegant events that don't include tacos, because as you may or may not know, tacos are not the only food that Mexicans know how to prepare. There is very high end, elegant Mexican food that is fitting for formal events. Too bad the O.C. hasn't been exposed to it.

I'm confused... If you didn't want Mexican food why would you choose the chef at Border Grill is known for upscale Mexican food??

I am very sad to hear the opinion that both you and your husband have as far as the mexican culture. Their is more to it than just chip, salsa and tacos. Mexican food can also be high end their is definitly more dishes than just what you guys order. I would do some research before insulting a whole culture with those type of comments.

MexgirlfromHou

I was very sad to hear that your husband thinks that mexican food is only good for a pool party but also reading that you wouldn't eat Tacos and wine is also very upsetting. Like Mexican Girl From OC said, just because you and your husband and a lot of other people order that doesn't mean that is all us mexicans eat. The mexican food can also be high end. Next time I would research before making such a harsh comment.

MelG

my only concern with you is that you and Micah should have researched this celebrity chef before meeting with her. It was hard to watch because I felt you both were almost rude because she wasn't offering your idea of a "high end" meal. Other than that, so far I think you are A-OK ........but remember just because someone is a "celebrity" doesn't mean you don't need to do your research.

MexicanGirlFromOC

You really looked very down to earth lady, but I was a little upset when your husband say "Mexican Food is something for a Pool Pary" - I do not think "Oreo Cookie Dessert" is a "high end dessert too"??? ~ It is very upsetting to hear those concepts, Mexican Food can be high end, as any other cousine from different coutries. Just most of the people always order chips, salsa, burritos, tacos. There is more to it. Please...
