I Would Do Anything for Love

Heather explains the motivation and meaning behind her name change.

By Heather Dubrow

Memorial Day weekend is here!!! Yeah! I love long weekends with my family! I had such an amazing trip to NYC this week! I loved being with Andy Cohen on WWHL! My first time in the clubhouse was a blast! Dr. Oz is a great guy, and I was happy to see him again. I'm especially proud of my new WWHL Medical Degree. I knew I could be a doctor!

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Orange County on  Peacock and the Bravo App.

I also saw lots of family and a few friends while I was in town.

There is never enough time but I can't stay away too long from my brood. Plus, it was open house night at school -- the kids would be devastated if we missed that!

So this episode was special to me. Changing my name legally was representative of so many things. No one wants to feel they have lost their identity. It was a struggle between my past, present, and future. I feel I made the right decision for me and my family. Truthfully though, there is no right or wrong decision when it comes to changing one's name after marriage. The prevailing factors should be that the decision is mutually agreed upon by both partners in the relationship and that everyone feels happy and confident.Lunch with my dear friend Dina Waters was fun to watch. We have known each other for many years and I cherish our time together. She's smart, honest, cares about me, and she gives sound advice. All amazing qualities to have in a friend. I feel so grateful and blessed to have her in my life.

The DMV! I was actually nervous to go there. That trip finalized my name as Heather Dubrow! It was the first time I ever signed that name. Very strange. Meanwhile, they didn't think I was very funny at the DMV. Maybe you didn't either -- but I amused myself. Sometimes that's all that is important!

Telling Terry I had legally changed my name was a great moment. I loved his reaction. It totally touched my heart to see how much it meant to him.

Look, for most people changing your name after marriage is a no brainer -- for me it wasn't. I realize however, this is not hugely important in the scheme of life. We still love each other the same, have the same family, live the same lives. We didn't cure a disease or defeat an enemy.

The truth is, in our small corner of the world, we got an opportunity to stop for a minute, look at each other and say "I love you so much I will do anything for you." Moments like that are precious and reaffirm what you mean to each other. I love my husband fiercely. He is an amazingly smart, generous, sweet, sexy man. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world when I am with him. I would do anything for him (well, having just read 50 Shades of Grey that may not be 100 percent true. . .) and this was just a small show of support and appreciation.

So, until next week! Can't wait to see what Costa Rica brings! Should be fun!
