WOW Tamra! Doing that speech was one of the best things you have ever done on this show. Ironically I never liked you, but during your speech I realized just how much we have in common, and you brought me to tears! I am also very outspoken ( as my user name may suggest ), and it's gotten me in a lot of hot water over the years. Like yourself, I am a confrontational, fight over flight kind of person. I as well did not grow up hearing the words " I love you" and had been hurt very deeply throughout my life, both growing up and in my relationships and marriage. At the age of 40 I made the choice to become a single mother and transition from victim to survivor, and it wasn't at all an easy thing to do. I was angry that I had spent so many years sleepwalking through my life and pointing the finger outwards. It is frightening when we are left to confront ourselves and who we have become because of our experiences. This phrase sums it up great:
"Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are". ~Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha
P.S/ I will think twice next time I find myself standing in judgement. We are a work in progress, but at least we're making progress!
