TO AVOID SUGAR, YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHERE IT HIDES
Choose foods with five grams of sugar per serving or less.
Sugar hides in foods under clever names like beet sugar, brown sugar, cane sugar, confectioner’s sugar, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, high-fructose corn syrup, invert sugar, lactose, maltodextrin, malitol (a sugar alcohol), mannitol (a sugar alcohol) sorbitol (a sugar alcohol), sucrose, and turbinado sugar. These sugars are in everything from protein bars and shakes to breads and diary.
Sugar is found not only in things that are sweet but in processed food like ketchup, spaghetti sauce, and BBQ sauce.
So, in the show you said that 2 bottles of water with lemon juice a day will make you lose 2 lbs a week...is that really true? How come? and does it have to be bottled lemon juice, or can it be freshly squeezed?
Jackie- Just wanted to take a moment and say how happy and thrilled I am that you are back and especially in this particular format. I enjoyed Workout but at times all the intrigue was distracting and it seemed that you weren't really comfortable with it all and it wasn't the show you wanted to be doing. But the scenes of you working directly with your clients were so powerful and at times so incredibly moving as your commitment to these people and your absolute and belief in what they could accomplish was complete. It is obvious that you love what you do and care deeply for those who come to you for help. It's all well and good to have a show on Bravo and be famous and make money but I sense that's not really it for you and your priorities are of a much different nature. You are so damn good at what you do and you have so much to give and do to each and every one of the people you work with. Your work is important to you and you are passionate about it. In an ocean of "reality" shows you are are the real deal. You make life better for others in your own unique and special way. You may have struggled in your relationship with your mother in the past but she should be very proud of the wonderful gift she has given the world in the loving, dedicated, talented and powerful woman that you are.You are a role model worthy of emulation for so many ; women, gays and lesbians or anyone who really that wants to make a difference in other people's lives. I'm a 50 year old gay man and I'm seriously thinking about changing fields and becoming qualified as a personal trainer and opening a gym concentrating on those people who are afraid they wouldn't be welcome or would be the object of negative attention at traditional exercise facilities : those who have been maimed or lost limbs in accidents or war, badly burned and scarred people or those with birth defects or physical conditions that others find of putting or anyone who believes that there is something different about themselves that they believe excludes them from the company of "normal" people. I believe there is a real need for such a welcoming place for so many and it offers them an opportunity to transform theirs lives instead of living without hope and resigning themselves to a life half lived. And selfishly, I've been blessed and life in so many ways has been easy for me; I want to give something back and to help others. I want to contribute in some way not just take. And I got that inspiration from watching you Jackie - you showed me that not only are there different ways to make such a difference but one in way in particular that I could love doing. Thank you for that and if you have any suggestions in regards to a good program in which I could become qualified they would be most welcome. And good luck with show - hope it's a smash. Oh and love your hair - very nice. And hot!
I love it soo far!!! Im new to the series. But Its motivating and interesting. I like the saying "quite smoke and lose weight". Im struggling with both.
Also, I know Im addicted to sugar. I love sugar first thing in the morning with my coffee. To kick sugar, ummm I dont know!!! It would be a total change of life.
Jackie...I loved your previous show from back in 05' and this one seems promising. Thanks for these awesome blogs! Pls. keep posting em. Love ya!!
Jackie, thanks for all the free advice! Saw the show, great! Just wondering are you a Vegan as well?
The five grams of sugar comment is so eye-opening! I consider myself pretty healthy and fit but, WOW! I went through my cabinets and everything has way more than 5 grams. Your tips are going to help me get into the best shape ever! Thanks for your no BS approach to life!
Jackie,
I am a big fan. I loved you on 'Work Out!', and I really enjoyed the first episode of 'Thintervention'. You are really inspiring and passionate about helping others to get healthy and create a healthier lifestyle. Thanks for caring!
P.S. Love the long hair too!!!
Hey Jackie, I really enjoyed the show last night and it got me motivated to get back on track. Question....I have a very hard time drinking water...is Crystal Light as effective and beneficial? Thanks!!!
Watched the show as well, it is a great inspiration to get me doing what i need to be doing. I'm watching and trying to stay on track with everyone. Jeanna is my fav because I knew of her from the housewives. She is a sweet person, just been mistreated. Anyways wanted to answer the viewer question about the lemon juice, actually fresh is better and with warm water, speeds up burning process. Good luck to all!
I am also addicted to sugar and I am a type 2 diabetic. there are sugars hidden in almost every food. i am about 60 pounds overweight and know that i can possible reverse this by losing weight. This is so difficult to do, especially living in the south. I am fortunate enough to work for a large insurance company in my state who is becoming very health oriented. They have built a new campus that has brought most of the employees together. They also included a fitness center with caring fitness instructors. The food center only sells healthy foods; bottled water is 75 cents, diet drinks 1.75 and all sugary drinks, including juice is 2.00 or more. I now workout as much as i can; have experienced health problems in last couple of months that has hindered my working out. I started back this week. Being a fat person it really blows my mind how much i have come to LOVE working out. I love the way it makes me feel. I have a weight loss goal of 60 pounds by June and my fitness trainor told me that could be obtained.
She actually said "one pound a week" for the lemon water, not two. Love the show!! THis is going to rock! I am going to workout along with the show and weigh in every Monday night with the cast. Fabulous and great tips!
I believe she said that it would help you burn an additional 75 calories and help detox your liver. Please don't drink lemon water and expect to loose 2lbs a week. You will loose more than that. :)
Jackie, It so nice to have you back on Bravo. I want to know what kind of lemon juice to use.. thanks
Have you tried steel cut oatmeal? Trader Joe's has a quick-cooking steel cut oatmeal and it is delicious. It tastes very nutty, not bland as regular oatmeal. I think you will love it!
Jackie,
Thank you for your advice. Love you and your shows. I, too, was looking for the hormone-balancing, detox vegetable list. Aslo, I was wondering what your opinion/advice is on daily vitamins and supplements. What would you recommend for a 29 year old active female? Thanks for all you do!
Jackie: There does not seem to be any new information here. How will this really be any different than any other "diet"?
There does not seem to be anything new here. Eat right..blah blah.. What is going to make this any different than any other "diet"?
J~ Is it true that the labels do not consider the high fructose corn syrup to be sugar? Love the show. So glad you are back on tv. The format seems more like you. Thank you for the tips, I wrote them down and am starting my own 'thintervention'. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season.
Ditto for me, I drink a lot of water and put fresh lemons in sometimes, but should I be using lemon juice instead.
Thanks.
Love your new show. I am 47 and have weight that has creeped up on me for the last few years. Even with exercise it hangs around and it has given me an excuse to eat what I wanted, because why bother if the weight stays on anyway, right? I feel lousy to tell the truth and exercise is not my friend either (at least right now). I would not consider myself a sugar addict but after I saw how much sugar was in yogurt, I was SHOCKED! I eat this every single day. I am feeding myself the fat that is around my middle. Who knew? I appreciate your tough side as well as the soft side that understands we all struggle with something. I don't see that with other show. You've got my attention. I have hopes of digging deeper within myself and learning more about the foods I eat and how they effect my body. Exercise is a challenge for me, but I think you could change my mind.
It seems like such a small amount of food. I'm at 1600 healthy calories a day. I guess when it states "protein shake" I want to know what is put into that. Whey protein mixed w/ water sound so unappetizing to me! Whether it's filling or not, I want to enjoy the food that I eat in my diet. I like her idea of limited sugar but that is a lot of research & time at the grocery store trying to find products w/ less than 5 sugars per serving. I'm not a meat eater also, so my protein shakes & bars accomodate for the majority of my protien intake daily. Would love to hear thoughts:) I love Jackie & I loved her show Workout so I know I will enjoy Thintervention.
Happy to see Jackie is back. Was a fan of the Workout show, but like Thintervention even better. More tips for working out and really motivational. Looking forward to incorporating Jackie's routines in my regimine. Hope I can keep up!
I loved the show, plan on setting the DVR. Very inspirational. Keep it up, and keep up all the good tips. I have been trying the cottage cheese and 2 eggs with yokes as well as lemon water. Thanks!
what is worth: fat or sugar? or both? or is Jackie going to tackle the fats next time? I am addicted to m&m's and candys but have been behaving since the 1st episode aired. used splenda and diet soda. but my flavored pretzels and other sunchips are also my drugs. what is better: tossing the chips or the candys?
Warning: one egg has 200 mg of cholesterol which is how much someone with heart disease should limit cholesterol intake to on a daily basis. For people without heart disease, 300 mg of cholesterol is the limit on a daily basis.
An egg once or twice a week can be a healthy food choice. Remember, that other animal products such as lean meat, cheese, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, and milk can also add to the daily cholesterol intake.
I strongly recommend a professional who has a college degree in Nutrition along with other required credentials such as registered and / or licensed Nutritionist/Dietitian.
Jackie said that if you work out and don't feel any paon, it is not worth it, you have to run for the pain (robably phrased in a different way ut the idea is here). when I run (4 miles in 35 min), I am never ever in pain. do I need to change my workout? or is cardio excluded from the "search for pain"? thanks for Jackie's hypothetic answer or anybody's!!!
you said juices have a lot of surgar what juices are good for you for example is pomegranate or orange juice or even grape juice ok. i see that they have a lot of sugars and calories but are 100% natural juices. wondering if i should toss.
I'm not a sugar girl, but my husband has a sweet tooth. His cardiologist wants him on low sugar, South Beach type diet. He can taste sugar substitutes, any and all in food and drink.... except sugar alcohols. Is there a problem with them? LOVE YOUR SHOW!
Jackie, You are inspiring people to think about the basics of fitness and weight loss again ,though not always the answer we are looking for. Simple demo of the caloric expenditure of 2 oreos spoke volumes. I do miss the old cast and can't help wishing that they were included in the show this year. Though you consistantly jousted them for power, you did hire them to represent your business based on their clear talent. The fact that they too were significant to the wellness process shouldn't have been such a threat to your position. Egos being what they may, here were after a long and well thought out process, with just another "Jillian", put them through the trenches, display of exploitation. A "back to your real roots" revisit would be much appreciated!
I used to drink a lot of diet soda. Then one day the science teacher at the school where I work noticed and mentioned that diet sodas contain some of the same chemical compounds found in the salt-like stuff used to melt icy driveways in the winter. He asked if I had ever noticed that drinking diet soda actually made me thirsty . . .and he was right! He said that actually natural cane sugar was more healthy, but that there were much better sugar substitutes at natural food stores. Now I buy naturally flavored, 0-calorie seltzers and add a little squeeze of fresh lemon and/or lime. They are delicious and very thirst quenching in the summer. I also like to make fresh lemonade using natural sweeteners like Stevia or Truvia. These beverages are tasty, good for you, and have no calories.
Dana, I never comment on posts but yours truly touched me. What an incredibly caring and selfless idea you have..I believe if you pursue your idea of helping people whom others find "off-putting" or "visually disturbing" you will not regret it. The world needs more like you..Please put your dream/plan into action? If you are in the Los Angeles area I would love to help you anyway I can. God Bless, Andrea
that is the point. weight loss is very simple. eat less calories than you burn each day and you will lose weight. there are no real tricks.
Jackie, I'm inspired by you and your commitment to your clients.. I hired a trainer today to begin working out 3 times a week starting Monday. I started changing my eating habits Tuesday and as of today at 8 a.m. I'm down 4 pounds. I've worked out on my own 4 times this week. I was lucky if I went once a week before. I'll be watching every week and making changes in my life to get me to a healthy weight. Thank You, Diana
I just started watching your show. You make such sense!! I want to drop the sugar from our home and start working out. Hubby feels like sugar is his rewarded for making it through a day. We are 47 and 40 and have a 3 year old. We are dedicated parents and by the end of the day we are EXHAUSTED and have no energy any day for working out. Hubby is a bartender at a major resort here in Vegas and needs to get his "youthful" appearance back. I'm a SAHM and soo out of shape. How do we get rid of the sugar and workout and have energy for our over active 3 year old?????
I have started watching your new show and LOVE it. I am recovering from bulimia and as a result I have completely messed up my metabolism and have gained over 60 lbs. I am hoping that watching your show will help me address this weight in a healthy way, because it is now time for me to address the excess I have acquired. I am 29 and too young to be this exhausted and overweight.
Love the show. I will be following your advice to the clients. I got rid of all foods with more than 5 grams of sugar. I was shocked that fat free milk had 12 grams.
Only problems is eating oatmeal....I gag at the thought.
I ordered a DVR, so that I can watch your show, and record the others that come on at the same time. lol
Looking forward to reaching my goal via your show.

where is the "hormone/balancer/detox list of foods"? watched the show, was great for a first episode. love the long hair Jackie!
