The Produce Section
- Choose mostly raw, fresh, and preferably organic vegetables.
- When purchasing a salad mix, look for the most colorful greens in the bag. The more color, the more healthful antioxidants.
The Dairy Section
- Next, pick up dairy products, such as low-fat cottage cheese and other low-fat cheeses, and Greek-style yogurt. Be sure to choose the additive-free version.
- Stay away from soft, pasteurized, or artificially colored cheese products. They are high in saturated fat, dyes, and preservatives.
- Choose organize free-range eggs if available.
The Fish Section
- Many varieties of fish are loaded with fat-burning omega-3 fatty acids. The types with the most omega-3s include the rich, oily, dark fleshed fish, such as salmon, sardines, bluefin tuna, and trout. Choose any white fish and steer clear of seafood that has been breaded or fried. Canned light meat tuna (water-packed) is fine, too; you’ll find that in the canned-meat aisle.
Dear Jackie, My daughter saw your show one day and had me go buy the book that afternoon. She read half of it that night and has been taking notes. She asked for a trainer to teach her how to work out, we make a weekly 30 minute trip to a Farmers Market for our fruits and veggies and we buy organic as much as possible. She taught me what she has learned from your book about reading labels, look for sugar content in EVERYTHING and has inspired me with her enthusiasm. We are now seeing the trainer together and cooking together. And of course we see your show when they are replayed over the weekend. Before seeing your show my daughter was devistated to hear her doctor tell her she was overweight, had high cholesterol and heading for a heart attack or diabetes. Since seeing your show she has found her "warrior" within and I can't thank you enough. I forgot to mention by daughter is 12 years old! Hopefully learing all this so early she will never be told those horrible things again. Thank you. Jennifer
Jackie, Love your book. I've used it to reshape my thinking about food and working out. I go into the grocery store and shop completely different from a month ago. Organic fruits and veggies along with low fat cheese and meat are now in my basket at check out. Thank You for giving me a glimpse into your workout routine and healthy eating for life. I want to be here to enjoy the next 50 yrs. Diana
Jackie, I do not miss an episode of your show, you are a true inspiration for someone like me and I am so grateful for your show, book, and any information and guidance I get from you. I have always been very active, love to exercise, in really good shape, but not a great eater(only eat one meal a day for most of my life). But then, at the age of 35 I had to have both cervical and lumbar back surgeries both of which failed. Since then I am unable to exercise and do most work outs that I have always done before. All exercise I try aggravate those medical conditions and my doctor tells me to stop. Now I am going to be 43 in Dec. and I just can't stand the sight of myself anymore, I had to have a hysterectomy in April and since then I have gained like 25 pounds and that's with one meal a day or sometimes a day or two w/o eating because of meds I have to take. I want to try to start your program, and the eating healthy foods will be easy for me, it's the eating more than once a day or at all that I have to overcome because I just don't eat if I'm not hungry. But I have lost so much muscle mass to almost having none and have become so weak. I don't know what to do and not cause more problems with my neck and back chronic pain and issues. I don't recognize the person I see in the mirror anymore though, and it is not just physical appearance, I am no longer the outgoing, fun, laughing, enjoying life person I used to be either. I am depressed most of the time because I have had to stop doing so many things that made me feel good and I enjoy so much. I have become a recluse, and keep to myself, have little to no contact with family and friends. I need this to change, my kids need this to change. I need and want my life back, my happy self back, I want some strength and muscle tone back. I am tired of my doctor's telling me I can't. I know a strong core makes a stronger back, and I know if my core was strong and in shape it would have to help my very weak back and legs. I just don't know how I can get it there with my situation. It upsets me so very much when I see people on your show taking an opportunity I would kill for, and just blowing it off like, ah whatever. OMG! What is wrong with them? I would give ANYTHING to be able to have you as my trainer and personally give me tips, recipes, guidance, workout with me and come check up on me. They obviously are not aware of how many women like myself, would love to take the place they are proving they do not truly want. Jackie, if you ever want a special case on your show, with a fighting warrior attitude, ready to make the best and most important change in her life, please contact me. I am beyond more than ready to do it, I have been ready since my surgeries, I just need someone who is willing and has the knowledge to show a person with my limitations how to do it. I love everything you stand for and how you are helping change lives. I will keep hoping for a chance and to hear from you. Tami St Louis MO firstname.lastname@example.org
Hello Jackie! Love that you are back. If you ever come or do a show via TEXAS, Houston/Sugar Land Area...please call me I'm so there! I would love to do training like that, not saying I would like it, but I would definitely be a solider, and it would be fun:)
Keep up the good work, and kicking butts....hopefully, we can see you on one of the Housewives show, maybe ATL, NJ, NY, OC.....
Jackie...your show & your personal story which I am reading in your book are so inspiring. I look forward to Monday because of you. I just wanted to thank you for motivating me to take charge of my health & life again. I use to look & feel so good & I didn't even know it at the time. You see .... I have always been healthy & extremely fit. I lived to exercise preferring to miss lunch with the girls to go to the gym. About 4 yrs ago ....right when I hit 40...everything changed for the worst. I haven't been the same since. I started having serious gastric issues. I felt so bad all the time that I couldn't work out. Then I started gaining weight ......bout 20 or so pounds.....especially in my mid section. I was disgusted with myself. Then years of depression followed just adding to the inactivity. I have never felt this bad about myself. Watching your show & reading your book has turned that switch back on. Bless you for the example you are setting by teaching people how to truly love themselves inside & out. Even though I don't feel that great most of the time....I am making myself start your program. I have started to see results & I can't tell how much better I feel about me. I happen to read another posting on your blog from someone who was middle aged & would love to be on your show. It really frustrates me to watch some of your clients not taking advantage of your believable gift. I would do anything to have you as my trainer while they just complain & don't follow your program. Shame on them. I hope they get it together for themselves. Im 44 now & had always felt I had been blessed in the looks category til it was all taken away. I think it would be great to have some people on your show who want to be all they can be. Some people might think 20 pounds isn't much but I can tell you it is. There are so many women who are in my position. I want to take my life back & am starting to thanks to you. I too would take a hiatus from my life to have that chance with you. Keep up the great work. You rock!!!
I also would like to see you do a transformation show for us that are exercising everyday but never seem to get any results. I'm 56 and have been stuck with the same weight since I went through menopause. I would take a leave of absence from my job to be on your show. Think about it Jackie and I hope you can do a show for us middle-aged women and men that still want to be fit and fabulous!!
on a recient show you had mention somthing about eggyoks being a fat burner. I always only eat the whites. Whats the scoop? thanks, lov the show
Jackie, I love your current show and past shows. This season, I was amazed at your transformation, your body is in great shape. Which brings me to the reason I'm posting. Two years ago I was in a Biggest Loser Challenge at work, I'm 5'7" 26 years old and weighed 156 pounds. I currently weigh 132 and have kept the weight off through dieting and excercise, but now I'm stuck. I would love for you to create a show for those of us who have lost the weight, kept the weight off, but now want to transform ourselves again, to help us lose maybe the last five pounds (which always seem to be the hardest) but also help us transform our bodies physically to being "ripped" and as "toned" as yours. I feel like there are so many shows geared towards the morbibly obese (and obviously for good reason, I understand their health is at risk), but what about us? The ones who struggle with taking the next step, the next transformation? The ones who know how to diet, know how to be disciplined, but can't get to the next step? I'd love to hear back from you, hell I'd even be on your show! I work in Education so my summers are FREE! Thanks!
I am a 43 yr old that is falling apart. After being 325 lbs at age 30 and then 155 lbs at 36, I have lived healthy, but have recently been diagnosed with Lupus and Celiac Disease , weigh 185 lbs, and my health is very poor. Where can I go from here ? Help...
Hello my question for today is . How much sugar are we supposed to consume in 1 day ? Thanks concerned in Texas.
This is a great guide. I loved watching the part in the grocery store tonight. I love your advice and especially the part where you tell the woman that cereal is a bad choice for a snack. I know a huge part of the reason Americans are so fat is because we had grains/grains/grains forced down our gullet via the media during the nineties as being such a great food for diet. I worked in health food stores then and everyone was into the grains, and was going organic or gluten free (which I realize can be because of a medical condition). But 20 years of that and supersize and we all look like super-sized loaves of whole wheat bread. It is such a hard adjustment to make as a nation to not go for the grains every time. I wasn't really planning on watching this show because you remind me of the ex I 'starved' myself to be 'perfect' for...when I fell off the wagon it was always over sugar and grains though. I was in really good shape but I never had ab definition like you do which I know is the hardest thing on earth to maintain so your diet must be really clean and I know you know what you are talking about. Watching you has me thinking I need to let go of the past and do it for 'me' this time instead of dwelling on the fact that I was 'perfect' for someone else once and it wasn't good enough.
