James Oseland is the editor-in-chief of Saveur magazine, America’s most critically acclaimed food magazine. Under his editorship, the magazine has won more than 25 awards, including eight James Beard journalism awards, and an award for best single-topic issue from the American Society of Magazine Editors. He is also the editorial director of Garden Design, a magazine about interior and exterior design. James has also been an editor at Vogue, Organic Style, Sassy, the Village Voice, and Mademoiselle. In 2006 his book, Cradle of Flavor, a memoir with recipes about living in Southeast Asia, was published and went on to win awards from the James Beard Foundation and the International Association of Culinary Professionals. It was named one of the best books of that year by Time Asia, The New York Times, and Good Morning America. He is the also the editor of the book Saveur: The New Comfort Food, published in May 2011. James has appeared as a judge of Seasons 1 and 2 of Top Chef Masters and on the Today Show. He has lectured at the Asia Society, Slow Food Nation, and the Culinary Institute of America’s Worlds of Flavor conference. James was born in Mountain View, California, in 1963. He holds degrees in photography and film studies from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has lived in India and Indonesia and now lives in New York City with his partner, Daniel, and his cat, Sam.
