Hugh Acheson

One Lump of Sugar Makes the Medicine Go Down

Hugh Acheson shares his love of boxing.

Sep 5, 2012

To the tasting: Chris says his dessert is a punch in the mouth of flavor. That is a good thing until you lose your teeth from cavities.

Lorena wins and the world stops for a moment to contemplate. Gidget is let loose. She has the moves -- it’s just her personality that grates most everyone the wrong way. It ain’t her fault-- she’s just a little Chihuahua in a Limoges shop.

Lorena and Takashi are having a chicken liver battle. I would do a Hunter’s Chicken finished with a liver butter, seared livers, crisp sage, and mushrooms if time permitted. That’s because we cook what’s on our mind and I just wrote the recipe for my new book… don’t hold your breath -- the pub date is in like 2014.

Livers, prosciutto, and red cabbage for Takashi, while Patricia has mustered a warm asparagus salad with livers and one lonely cherry tomato. Sugar Ray only punches with positive enthusiasm and likes them both. Take a stand, Sugar Ray! You’re a champion!

Curtis luckily is not showboating with the end result cause any which way its going to be sad. Patricia looks tired and has for a couple of episodes. Takashi goes home and Takashi must pack his knives. He did a great job for American Red Cross and the guy really is a badass. They all are. Trust me -- I was tired at this point… it was the same auspicious time that I went off last season. I slept well that night. No remorse.

What a great blog!  You're not only able to cook well, write a cookbook, but you also write astonishingly well. It's fun for me to view the show and then read your blog to learn how you perceived the events. And I enjoy your side comments, too, in which you share a bit of real life. Through it all, I sense that you really feel for each of the contestants. How wonderful to learn of an accomplished person who retains such empathy for others. Bravo is fortunate indeed to have your sharing your insights with the viewers. Great job.Now we want to watch you cook again.

Great summary of the episode, Hugh!  I hope that Andy Cohen and the magic elves at Bravo add a G.I. Joe dressed as a chef to add to the Clubhouse!  One correction on your blog...Patricia (not Lorena) and Takashi had the chicken liver battle.

Oh Hugh, even when I miss the episodes I have to catch your blog recaps!  Lorena seems far less irritating without Art around.  Sad Takashi left as he is fellow Chicagoan.

I am in Lorena's corner.   She has a big personality - a zest for life and in this episode a skill at showmanship.   She strikes me as genuine and her food consistently and accurately represents her personality.  At least she isn't unapologetically bitchy and snarky like Patricia!  I think Patricia's comments about Lorena this episode were ill-considered and rude.

You picture little boy Chris dressing a bada** G.I. Joe as a chef who is proficient at charcuterie?  With a homemade apron!  How do you come up with these things???  Fantastic fun.  Hope your book will include more of your witticisms.  I will definitely check it out.

I really look forward to your blogs every week because you never pull any punches (sorry, I couldn't resist given this weeks theme!).  I admit to being one of those people who are "rubbed the wrong way" by Lorena's personality - I wish she had an "off" button some times.  The good news is that she's not nearly as annoying as she was when Art was around to encourage her!
