You'll Never Guess What This Palm Springs Restaurant Does with Its Pizza Oven
Palm Springs chef Michael Beckman shows Gail Simmons his secret to divine fish, in Gail's Culinary Adventure.
Palm Springs chef Michael Beckman has a gorgeous pizza oven at Workshop Kitchen + Bar, but he doesn't just use it to make pizza. As Top Chef judge Gail Simmons discovers when she visits his restaurant as part of her new video series, Gail's Culinary Adventure, Beckman uses the oven to finish his incredible chermoula-spiced, wood-fired sea bass. Gail gets to sample that fish in Episode 1 of the series, along with an enviable spread that includes the fabulous local Drake Farm goat cheese with braised lentils and glazed beets, and a beautiful citrus tart as a surprise birthday dessert—all while admiring the super-chic, rustic dining room, which was a movie theater in the 1920s.
The five-episode adventure series was shot while Gail was filming Top Chef Season 13, and in each one she takes us along as she makes side-trips to meet up with the best chefs, bakers, mixologists and more —from San Francisco to Palm Springs and beyond—and lets us in on what she's eating and drinking. Make sure to check back on Wednesday, January 27 for Episode 2.
