They say you eat first with your eyes, right? Just in case you don't have a reservation booked to check out these over-the-top restaurants in person, there's always Instagram. Luckily, some of the most sought-after dining destinations are generous enough to share their gorgeous, extravagant dinners—at least the visual part—with vicarious eaters around the world. Here, 5 Instagram feeds we're obsessed with right now.
Top Chef alum Kwame Onwuachi recently opened The Shaw Bijou in D.C., with a tasting menu that's among the most expensive in the U.S. Diners also get to tour the kitchen as part of the intimate dinner experience. Can't get there right away? Check out behind-the-scenes action, and mouthwatering dishes like the charred Wagyu above, on Instagram.
If we could turn Alain Ducasse's Instagram account into wallpaper for our kitchen, dining room and, hell, the entire house, we would. Until then, we'll just keep scrolling through the mesmerizing images that pop up daily on the multiple-Michelin-starred chef's feed, like this filet de canard roti (roasted duck breast) at his Rivea London restaurant.
Sydney's Quay Restaurant has one of the world’s most expensive tasting menus, and while you wait for that reservation to come through, prep for the trip with a visit to its Instagram. It's full of chef Peter Gilmore's OTT dishes, like this smoked pig jowl, with black barley koji, shiitake chawanmushi and shaved sea scallop.
You don't have to be in France to try superstar, Michelin-bedecked French chef Guy Savoy’s influential and luxe cuisine. He has a restaurant in Las Vegas too. While you decide which one to visit first, glory in the gorgeous dishes on his Instagram. Case in point: The "Cherry" (above), which he describes as a "sphere of Syrah wine granité wrapped in milk ‘paper’ with cherry marbles in fromage frais; milk and cherry jelly; pan-roasted cherries with black pepper."
This buzzy restaurant on Ibiza is a multisensory, high-tech experience like no other, with ever-changing projections, holograms, and a sci-fi molecular gastronomy menu from Michelin-starred Spanish chef Paco Roncero. The tasting menu runs into the four figures, but the Instagram is free, and gives you a tiny but telling glimpse of what's in store—like the trippy oyster above that would've made Alice in Wonderland jealous.
