This Idea for Eating in Your Hotel Room Is So Much Better Than Boring (Expensive) Room Service

Bonus: It's hyper-local, too.

Room service can feel like a double-edged sword: Yes, it's convenient, which is especially key when you're jet-lagged or otherwise exhausted. But the menus are often limited, expensive, and lacking in local flavor in favor of bland dishes meant to be universal crowd pleasers. And apart from all that, let's be honest, room service can sometimes just be downright gross.

So what if, rather than settling for a generic omelet or basic burger, you could experience local — and just plain better food when you order in? Say, authentic Chicago-style deep dish when visiting the Windy City, without leaving the room.

In some cities, your chances of doing just that are improving: In a new collaboration, Hyatt Centric and GrubHub recently announced they are expanding a partnership in which guests staying at the hotel chain can choose from a hand-picked collection of restaurants to be delivered as room service.

A smaller version of the program already existed this past year at three Hyatt Centric hotels, in Long Beach, Park City, and Miami. However, the offer will now exist at Hyatt Centric locations in San Francisco, Arlington, Texas' The Woodlands, New York City, and (still thinking about that deep-dish pizza from paragraphs above?) Chicago.

"Based on the successes of the pilot, the decision to expand the relationship will allow for more guests to explore their destinations with added convenience and ease while staying in the middle of the action," Hyatt global brands senior VP Sandra Cordova Micek said in a statement.

Meaning, when visiting in NYC, you can have that authentic bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich — all without being bothered to get dressed. Technology is awesome.
