How about next season we have blind tastings in Last Chance Kitchen. No one, even Tom, should have the ability to eliminate a chef on his own. It looks way to much like playing favorites or judging on one persons whim.

Who cares about food drama when a hot Mexican carries the whole show.  I only watch the show to see this gorgeous man!!  He's the Hot Dish!!

Nick is calm compared to a lot of chefs I've worked with:-)

And I'm throwing stuff at my TV. Really? Nick goes to the finale? Mr Overcomplicatingunderseasning diva Nick?

Had he been eliminated when he should have been and came back through LCK it wouldn't be so bad .. but this guy skated into the finals with more bad performances than good ... and he's off to the finale. What a crock.

Nick should have gone home ahead of Carrie one the 12th episode. Had he not had immunity to screw Steph over the following episode he would have gone home. He was up and down for the first 10 episodes going home at any minute ... and pretty much sucked bottom yet hung on like a roach to send Carlos home.

I hope Nina gives him something to cry about. I've never been so disappointed in the judging decisions as I have been with those involving Nick.

Although the finale preview teases us that the head-to-head final was the closest ever, imho this season was pretty mediocre.  I think they tried a lot of angles to create drama to mask that several of the chefs, especially early on, were either forgettable personalities or not that strong to begin with.

Unlike previous seasons, I ended up skipping some early episodes and ended up just focusing on the final 6 and LCK.  For all of Carlos' bragadaccio, in the end he's one-dimensional - he didn't really stretch himself out of his Mexican comfort zone, and wasn't a risk-taker (bell pepper soup, seriously?).  His sniveling about not getting the planche, not adapting when he didn't have the fish knife, and other misbehaviors just ended up revealing his whiny, duplicitous personality.  His nasally voice didn't help either, in fact it make him more grating!  At first, Shirley seemed to be on the same single-minded track as Carlos, but in my view her mastery of technique and willingness to embrace risk, while searching for her voice  was refreshing.  Nick clearly has talent and is willing to take risks, but his angst-ridden personality combined with his angry outbursts are a tired act.  Cutt the whining and season your damn food already!  Louis was the one I was rooting for, as he took a lot of risks in LCK, and his raw talent and diverse skill set showed he can up his game.  Too bad he's out.  I hope the win goes to Nina, who I think clearly knows her voice, is willing to take risks, and did the best work in adapting the ingredients and flavors given to her.

Having said this, I think TC needs to revisit itself, and maybe look at going a little more raw and primitive, and put more pressure on chefs in future seasons.  This season just wasn't that interesting.

I will throw my shoe at tv if Nick goes to final.

I sure hope Shirley and Nina get in the finals.  Nick is  good chef but so pig headed no one could work with him and Carlos can't do anything but Mexican.  No more gimmicks please.  I agree, tis sow is not as good as I was.

To be honest I am sick of Top Chef, when you think of the various shows over the years, you had that one chef that was all about wine and he kept costing his teams wins and Tom and them knew this, but still kept him around. They even told him that this is Top Chef not Top Connoisseur but still let him stay. You also had the Chef from Camden, NJ who had immunity and took over the whole kitchen even when his team members said no, they lost and a woman was being sent home. The judges knew this but still kept him until he wrestled that other Chef that no one liked to the ground and he was disqualified. My point is that I really think these judges have their favorites and that this show is not to say fixed, but is stacked towards certain Chefs being allowed to stay and even win.

I would bet that the 3 remaining cooks did NOT choose Louis' dish.  Why?  Because of the seasonings Carlos used, they recognized which dish belonged to which chef.  I think they voted for Carlos so that they would not have to cook against Louis.  If I am right, please consider giving Louis another opportunity in the next competition.

Carlos is a talented cook, but he is a liar, cry baby and a user of people. He lied that Nick took his oven, he cried when they picked their cooking stations that he needed the one that another Chef had picked, he cried when Nick did not let him use his knife, stating that even though this is a competition, Nick had to stop being selfish. Why didnt you have all of your equipment, or pick a protein that you had a knife for, or better yet, why didnt you ask another Chef could you borrow their knife? Good riddance! And I agree, LCK should be a blind taste test!

shouldn't the last chance kitchen be a blind test since there is only one judge?

I think its interesting that all season long Padma was most critical with Nick than anyone else. Just the way she would speak to him was more condescending than with any of the other chefs. And when Carlos was eliminated in the last episode, she was more upset to have to send Carlos packing. Nick over thinks every detail and that's what gets him in trouble. Louis deserves a chance in the final 4, and he will give Nina a run for the money. Those 2, I think, are the best chefs out there...its one person's opinion who has watched Top Chef ever since season 1.

Nina or Louis deserve to win, leaning toward Nina. Shirley is the Chinese Carlos when it comes to cooking style, all Chinese all the time. That being said, Shirley has way more talent than Carlos.

There is nothing blind about the last tasting. Everyone will know which dish will be from Carlos, because it's based on Mexican flavors. The question is do they vote for Carlos (because they think) they can beat them) or do they vote for the mystery chef.

I hope Louis survives LCK but I'm on Team Nina all the way!

Tom has his favorite.  All these celebrity chefs do not matter.  If Tom objects to anything on the place or the way it was cooked then that contestant is out.  If they are going to have a "Last Chance Kitchen" then judges should be rotated.  Once Tom gets his favorite - well - that's who will win.

Based on their consistently excellent performance, the win needs to go to Nina or Shirley.   That said, all three of the guys in contention are excellent chefs, and all are fierce, steely-eyed competitors willig to do whatever is necessary to win.  I wish all three could be in the finales for a "triple elimation." They all deserve a shot.

The reveal is a different day judging from the fact that everyone's clothing has changed.  Carlos isn't wearing a Top Chef coat in LCK, which he would wear at the reveal, most likely, with the sleeves rolled up.  I can't see a ring on his left hand because the leaves are in the way.  Judging from the way they shoot to Nick and the music they play after the reveal I would guess Carlos but it's hard to say

Nick should have went home along time ago. Carlos is way better then Nick . I cant see how someone who barely gets by is in the final 3 !

Carlos is a talented chef, but his cooking is one-dimensional--Mexican.  "My mother made this and it's my favorite, my mother-in-law makes that and it's my favorite..."  Enough already!  I'd much rather see Louis back in the competition than Carlos.  I can only take so much glorified Taco Bell.

How the heck did Carlos win a car with a lame dish like bell pepper soup?  The judges gave much higher praise to Nick's eggplant dish.  I'm not fond of Nick and I think he's only being kept in the running for the drama he causes, but I really doubt a lame pepper soup was better than his eggplant.

Assuming the winning chef reentered the competition right after LCK, the winner was Louis.  Carlos was wearing jeans and Louis had on black pants like the chef behind the leaves,

I hope Nina or Shirley win. Nina and Shirley know how to cook and they are nice.

I can't believe they had additional people besides Tom, although he is unquestionalbly the Top Chef, it was

great to see what other people thought. In addition not to tell them who was who was also smart.  Enjoyed this

segment alot.  We shall see who goes on, and Tom now that we are in Hawaii  Flowered shirts!!!  lol  no more

plaid???  Ok, we can get used to it, boy it would be nice to be there now.  Great season so far, hate that it will

be over soon.  W

the head behind the leafs is Louis's,but the ring on the left hand is Carlos's,you can see the ring!,so if not manipulated i guess  they made Louis to  wear the ring to fuel the confusion and dialog..

Really now another woman winner if it fits them and prefer executive Italian chef NINA, but over less professional nicest Shirley !!!!!!!

If you look at the shirt length in the clip for next week, you will see that it is a 3/4 length sleeve giving the win to Louis over short sleeved Carlos!

I don't like that the three remaining chefs had any input on the LCK victor, blind tasting or not.

Nicholas, through what we saw via the editing, had issues with Carlos while Nina and Shirley, also through editing, displayed a bias in favor of Nicholas.

All three would be able to identify which dish belonged to Carlos and had the ability to vote against him. They also had the ability to choose the weakest dish in order to tilt things in their favor. Though choosing the weakest dish would be a strategy in a competition, there is no way to ensure that Carlos received a fair shake in the judging.

Dolphin3636

Nicholas should have been eliminated. CARLOS is a better cooker and nicer than Nicholas.

I loved that they didn't know who created the dish.

I like Louis and I like Carlos may the chef win. But at the end of the video you can tell it was Louis who won the challenge. :)

Congratulations Louis.

@Rheinbear  F'n absolutely agree! it has little worth when one person determines the fate of a person that  originally lost from the decision of at least 4 'supposedly qualified' judges...

@kathleen.milner   that's brilliant Kathleen.   Yes, think that Carlos has a huge heart and probably cooks a good meal....but, he (unlike you) is not brilliant,   BUT best I remember - didn't they show them praising Louis' dish?

GreenChef
GreenChef

@popdaddy That's pretty harsh and not at all accurate. Anything Carlos is guilty of ... so is Nick and pretty much every other contestant.

Nick cried nearly every episode. Carlos didn't lie about an oven. Perhaps he should have chosen his words better but Nick claimed an over to heat plates for college kids in a cafeteria ... for a miserable dish to begin with. Ovens are for cooking and if something needs to be cooked you find another way to warm your plates. Heating lamps work very well for this. The only time Nick had cause to act like a diva was over the knife.

In the end there was nothing blind about the final tasting and judging of LCK.

suzetteyoung

@popdaddy Couldn't agree more, everyone thinks Nick is a jerk, actually I would see him take over Carlos, actually I love Shirley

@anonymousguest Not to mention the camera cut to Nick's face. The disgusting look on his face makes me think it is Carlos.

@GreenChefI agree. It was a pretty ignominious way to judge. Plus, I really don't like the kind of sneering way they talk about Mexican food. Carlos' food is inventive and sounds and looks delicious. Nick is weirdly arrogant especially as he has cooked the worst food quite often, and he really should have gone home already. I like Louis, but I am hoping it's Carlos. I would really like to go to Carlos' restaurant in Chicago.

GreenChef
GreenChef

@annryan53@gmail.com I've eaten at Mexique several times and it is always amazing. In fact, each time I'm in Chicago I go through the agonizing decision of where to eat because there is so much amazing food to be had ... and Mexique is always on the list.

What I don't get is why so many people are bagging on Carlos for cooking Mexican food. Every chef that has been on TC has always cooked the food they're trained in and rarely stray very far from that cuisine unless the challenge requires it. Look at the top three right now. Shirley has cooked with Asian flavors and hasn't strayed too far from Italian or French dishes. Nina hasn't strayed too far from Caribbean, Italian, or French. Then you have Nick who has served one overly complicated and under seasoned French dish after another. Everyone on the show cooks to their strength and knowledge .. yet Carlos catches flack for doing exactly what every other contestant has done? Give me a break already.
