'Top Chef' Producer on Emmy Fall

Magical Elf Erica Ross laughs about her 'Top' tumble.

August 31, 2010

Monica A. Reyhani

Well it was the Emmy tumble seen 'round the world. Top Chef wins for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program, the producers, both Bravo and Magical Elves, rise from their seats to accept their Emmy, and then -- yikes! -- one of them goes flying! There are videos circulating on the Interwebs called "girl falls at Emmys," and the like, sooo I decided to reach out to Ms. Erica Ross, EMMY WINNER, and ask what happened! Thankfully she had a sense of humor about the entire thing (as any Magical Elf would...):

I came, I tripped, I won an Emmy ... barefoot!
Getting my first Emmy nomination in recognition for the work that I love was amazing. Being able to invite my mother and revel in the glitz and glamour of the Emmy event with my co-workers and friends was a reward in itself. When they called the Reality Competition category, it never crossed my mind that we would actually win. My heart wasn’t pounding and my face wasn’t red. My shoes weren’t even strapped on. And this apparently was a really BAD idea! Excited and in shock after the announcement, I lost one shoe before I even made it to the aisle. And then, it happened ... I tripped over something! As I was airborne I kicked off my other shoe, made an off-camera recovery, and walked on the stage barefoot and proud. Little did I know my trip was caught on camera and in my 15 seconds of fame I became an Emmy Award winner and an Internet sensation!!

-Girl Falls at Emmys signing off!

Now, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I'm ready to blame the guy sitting in the row in front of us for this one. If you can see from this freeze frame, right after Erica fell, he moved the program that was on the floor under his seat ever-so-slyly.

So, it seems clear to me that it was laid sloppily in the aisle and the poor girl tripped over it. Honestly, I have no idea if that's what she tripped over, but I'm just going to blame this guy anyway.

Anyway, I'm certain Erica will never forget her Emmy experience now, and I'm sure the moment was nothing a few glasses of Top Chef Quickfire wine couldn't wipe away.

But if you forget, you can watch the whole thing:

Love TOP CHEF! Glad you won the Emmy!

I second that !!!

Congratulations, i love this show, keep them coming!!!!!!

This is awesome

Congratulations!!

Congrats to Bravo- maybe now you will take your fans more seriously??

Top Chef deserved to win. It is the only good show left on "Barfo" Bravo except for the "House" reruns!! The rest of the shows are awful and very "UNREAL".

People have been tripping on their way to pick up their Emmy for years, even men. So, it's okay as long as you're alright. Many congrats!

I was watching the night of the Emmys. Just glad you're okay. Congrats!

I have already said congratulations and just thought Top Chef deserved the win especially for Season 6, but I am wondering after the disappointment and the way TC may be heading from this season (7) will the Emmy's regret giving the award to a TC.

Congratulations on the Emmy.
COMMENTS TO BROVO

My favorite shows on Bravo were TC, Project Runway and Real Housewives. I really enjoyed watching Top Chef Masters. TC was truly a disappointment this season, because of the editing/producing/judges. I had a lot of respect for Tom. I don’t understand why he doesn’t have the pull to stand up for the integrity of the TC. It is so clear this season to see that it is not just about cooking.
I don’t understand why Bravo dropped a great show like Project Runway.
I must admit I watched the Real Housewives for entertainment. Bravo seems to looking to get more and more dramatic with each performance. I blame it on Real Housewives of Atlanta ratings. Now all Real Housewives must top the other. Bravo already dropped two Housewives of Atlanta and two from NJ. I must say I enjoyed the NJ housewives better. Bravo I like to give you a warning, you need to slow all the drama before something seriously go wrong and get hurt. I think NJ Housewives should drop Bravo, before it ruin their family especially their children.
I think that even though Top Chef and Project Runway are also reality shows, it didn’t seem like reality shows because it seemed to have integrity and seemed to be judged fairly for the most part. I will not be watching this season of TC and I hope Ed wins. I think from the start it showed that Angelo was the judges and producers favorite. Now, they have the finales 4 in Singapore “Asian Cuisine”. Asian food is only Angelo specialty, over 95% of cooking on TC was Asian flavors. A top chef should be able to cook and master other cuisine. If Angelo wins TC will lose even more viewers. I will watch next season first two or three episodes. At first I said I will no longer watch TC after pea puree and Kenny, but I was rooting for Tiffany or Ed to win. Since a consistent chef left I will not continue to watch this season, but will root for Ed to win. I don’t want one bad season of TC to stop me from watching TC, so I decided to watch the next season. I will watch the first three episodes and if it echoes this season, I will no longer watch the show. As for the Real Housewives, I will no longer watch any of the Real Housewives. I am fed up with all the over the top drama.
So this leaves only the food completion shows I watch on Bravo. Please don’t try to make Top Chef Master like the Housewives. This is what Bravo did to TC this season. I know Top Chef lost a lot of viewers because of this. I think the true fans will at least give TC another chance. Please don’t screw it up and consider what the viewers are saying.
Another complaint I have with Bravo is that how some blogs comments are duplicated and others are not posted. If Bravo respects their viewers they will post all comments. I have posted comments for Housewives and TC and none of my comments were posted. This shows me a lack of respect for giving comments about my favorite shows.

sorry you fell now you and Beyonce and J-Lo are in the same club. Can you bring Tiffany with you to Asia? She's too good to have been cut. Let some of the men go home.
Avianca

A reality tv moment about reality tv. lol.

reality show emmy. people DO trip in real life. the show is great. my kids in grade school have started playing TOP CHEF at home and WOW it is great, they have made some FUN innovations out of things they've found and Dad has enjoyed employing some long dormant accents to pretend he is Fabio or Eric. Ha! Love it. awesome show, our family favorite.

Watch the entire video (not just a freeze frame) and you will see that "the guy" you are defaming was actually being considerate and helping clear the aisle after Tom Colicchio (or perhaps someone else in the Top Chef group even though first you see it in Tom's hand and then, poof, you don't) dropped his/her program.
