My apologies for the delay in submitting the blog. Please check back tomorrow--I'm working on it! Thanks--Tom
How do the judges feel about all of those scenes where Angelo is double dipping his spoon in the dish after he has tasted.. I thought that was a no no... yuck
I know this comment will probably get deleted, but here goes:
Tom, on so many occasions in the past, the judges have eliminated the contestant who tried to do too many dishes, often just two instead of one. In contrast, the judges have celebrated the chef who did one thing, but did it well.
So, how can you go into the kitchen, loaded with incredulity, asking, "You guys only have four courses!?! This is for Food & Wine Magazine!"
all the folks who angrily quit watching because their favorite cheftestant got cut are sure going to miss out on a lot of fun! Mike V, Ilan and Hung??? i don't care who the finalists are anymore, next week's episode going to be AWE-SOME!!!
What's up with this??? No blog so far again this week? I think I look forward more to the blogs/comments than even the show! I had to miss most of last night's show so I was hoping to catch up with the blogs - to my chagrin obviously since it's not here. Maybe you are getting too tired of this show and need a change. Your heart sure doesn't seem to be in it this season.
Chef Tom, I have to say after watching last nights show, that I am pulling for Angelo. I think he wants it more than anyone, and I believe he earned the right to be the Top Chef from what I can see. He was consistent throughout, but when Ed won the challenge, it was strange, it was like he was a one hit wonder. The other comment is that I never realized how much unhealthy things really went into restaurant prepared food...it seems that salt is used in large amounts as well as oils, that may not be so healthy....I was sure that in one episode, I saw someone pour what looked like vegetable oil all over a dish...I guess my question is how do you judges eat so much of this food at one sitting? The other issue I have with last nights show was the blood, sweat and Angelo's tears that literally was a part of that show...it was pretty gross to see Kelly get cut and continue cooking, and trash the food she was touching with the bleeding hand...then to see Ed sweating, with sweat dripping off of his nose as he prepared his dish...that was a little much...you guys didn't really eat that food did you? When the dessert chick started talking about tasting something in the food, I was sure it was Kelly's blood...not appetizing, I can tell you....I hope Angelo wins the challenge!
Tom, this has little to do with the episode, but my mom has always wanted to say this and hope that it'll get passed to whoever does the editing jobs, etc.
On the previews/commercials for the finale of Top Chef, there's always a clip of Padma getting ready to announce the season's winner. "Congratulations, you are the winner of..." One thing that bothers her about this is that it kind of spoils who is going to be the winner, because now she knows beforehand that whoever is standing in the spot Padma's face/direction is pointing at is going to be the winner.
Like, this year, Padma's face if I recall correctly is looking to the right/far right. So now next episode when the cheftestants come out and stand anxiously waiting for the judging, it's no surprise who won about 10 minutes later because we already saw clips of her talking to whoever ended up in the right/far right.
Can't the editors like, flip the clip around or something so it doesn't become obvious? LOL.
you guys are anti female chefs and it stinks. Tiffany was so strong, so much better than steven, and got nixed. Then, Kelly, who helped others and had good dishes got screwed, Angelo should have gone home with his salty gook. At least kelly attemoted a good curry and had a good soup. It is clear you only want male top chefs. You are losing a ton of female viewers.
What's the deal with the producers not allowing women to win? The judges and producers only let the women get so far as to not make themselves look like they are discriminating. We all know that Tiffany or Kelly wouln't win. Not because they weren't awesome cooks but because they were women. Get with it Tom. You and I both know Kelly was booted because she was a woman.
why were all the judges estastic about ed's banana fritters? it appeared to me that he purchased a pre made mix which included the recipe. anyone could have made this, even a novice. maxine
1)I find it amazing that Kevin admitted to never cooking in a Wok. You would have thought that he would have drowned himself in Asian cooking in preparation for this show. Having a small burner was not much of an excuse. I bet Ed did. And you would think they would have prepared some good Asian dishes and practiced them dilligently. Those dishes should have included street food, also. 2) I also think that Ed practiced some gamesmanship That was quite sneaky. But all's fair in love and war...I guess..If Angelo had done that, people would say he behaved true to type. The stakes were high and Ed has bewen on a roll.3) The producers did take advantage of the chefs by having them cook after their long flight and visit to the town. That must have been rough on them. And the heat and humidity assaulted them too. But thiis is definitelya high stakes competition. The challenge on the train in Napa was babyfood compared to this. I am enjoying the drama and look forward to seeing them cook with their outstanding partners next week.
What's with this blog not being available the next day? It's not as if the show is live. If Tom doesn't have time for a blog, I get that. So don't have a blog at all.
Yes, of course the show is sexist! And how clever of Top Chef to have 2 female judges on the panel who also agreed that Kelly should have been sent home. My god, those dastardly people at Top Chef have done it again! And to throw us off their trail even further, 4 out of 7 seasons saw a woman reach the final round with one season being 2 women vs. 1 man. To top it all off, that season one of those women actually won the whole thing! Then there was the holiday special where a woman won the competition. I mean, wow! They're so sneaky, it's almost as if accusations of sexism are completely without merit and totally asanine!
Also, I would really like it if one of the commenters above could direct to a website that sells the device that allows one to taste food through their television screen. Some of these dishes look really good and I've been dying to try some. Thanks!
Why is there almost never a time out allowed for someone who cuts a finger or incurs a physical injury to see a medic??? Kelly's cut looked like it needed stitches!!!
Let's just cry discrimination because a contestant we don't like was eliminated. You didn't taste the food and you weren't there for the judging, yet you're convinced that it was sexism. Even though 3/5 of the judges were women and even though a woman has won Top Chef in the past. Unbelievable. You're not doing your cause any favors by being completely illogical.
Hi bloggers! We don't need Tom to have a discussion, we can do it on our own. I was sorry to see Kelly go, but since I can't try the food, I will have to take the judges word for it. So, what do you think abaout the previews of next week? Do you think Angelo miraculously recovers and cooks his heart out? Do you think Ed will continue his streak? I have heard rumors that it is a surprising ending, could that mean that Kevin comes out on top? Since Tiffany is gone, I am not too interested in who wins, but Ed seems a good guy. I guess I will go vote 80 times for fan favorite! 80 times, really Bravo? Who has the time? Obviously, not Tom.
Tom Colichhio, don't listen to any of the nay sayers. You got this! You rock in omg, let me count the ways..............You got this.
