Hello my little spaetzles! Anyone else having serious heart palpitations from this episode? Seriously, what a roller coaster! Let's start with the Quickfire, which was just impossible. Each chef had to complete a different classic Quickfire. This actually felt very Masters to me, but, hey, these guys can handle it, right? Mike gave Antonia the canned food challenge. Richard got the hot dog challenge and that left Mike with the one pot wonder. Antonia thought that Richard's choice to give Mike the one pot wasn't a smart one because it wouldn't restrict Mike from any specific ingredients. In the end, she was right. Of course in the middle of the chefs' cooking, they were presented with three twists. Mike couldn't use any kitchen tools, Antonia shared an apron with Carla, and Richard had to cook with one hand tied behind his back. At this point, I can't even say what was the hardest. These chefs are probably so nervous and delirious that any little change seems like the Apocalypse.
In the end, guest judge Wolfgang Puck, not throwing any donuts this time, gave the win to Mike. And Mike's winning streak continues!
In the Elimination Challenge, the chefs are met by three culinary heavyweights: Michelle Bernstein, Morimoto and, of course, Wolfgang. This was Morimoto's first appearance on Top Chef, and I was pretty psyched to see him. I smiled at him at our Season 7 finale party, and that's my anecdote about him. Good story, right? Want me to tell it again? So, the chefs are paired up with a legend and have to cook their "last suppers." We've actually done a challenge like this before back in Season 5 with guests like Jacques Pepin and Lidia Bastianich and Marcus Samuelsson. I think I cried during that episode and I cried a little bit during this one. Just hearing the chefs talk about their childhood memories of food got me choked up. I'm sure this has much to do with the amazing food memories I have of my late mother's cooking, but no need to talk about that here. I wil say though that this episode did make me think about what I'd want my last meal to be. I think I've mentioned this before, but I thiiink I'd either want an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and nova or chicken parm with extra cheese on the side. Growing up my mom always put extra shredded cheese in the pan for me, so when it cooked it was just this extra blob of melted cheese, and it was amazing. What would you want your last meal to be? Tell me in the comments below!
Ok, you can´t top season 6 or All-stars...that´s a fact There was probably a seventh season of T.C...I don´t know If you wanna do another season you gotta have Gordon Ramsay, just BUY him for a moment from FOX. Or even BETTER...try to get Marco Pierre White!!! A whole episode around Marco Pierre White, with Bourdain, Tom and the contestants like they´ve seen Jesus or Elvis...:) Probably not gonna happen, but it´s got Emmy written all over it. "Noma" from Denmark is the BEST restaurant in the world, and Rene is a character. Ferrian Adria?, Heston? Season 9 gotta step it up...REALLY!
Last meal? This is a tough one.
If I got a whole menu, A little fried calamari to whet the appetite Plate of seafood tartar or ceviche. Must includes are oysters and toro. Pork adobo with rice and tomato/mango salad Apple pie with ice cream and caramel au beurre salé drizzled on top
If I just got one dish, I'll take the adobo and rice and die happy.
That was the dumbest twist to a challenge ever. It had no bearing on the previous meal/dishes. I am just about over Top Chef at all. How could they keep Jaime on so long??? How did they not call Mike out on stealing Richard's idea? Come to think of it---Richard has been a big whiner this season. Ugh. Done.
Not sure if the Top Chef contestants read these, but I hope so! I think Antonia was robbed! Hands down, she should have made it to the final round over Mike. That's my opinion, and it's not just based on this challenge but all previous ones as well. Being from NJ, I would've liked to see someone from Jersey win Top Chef, but people like Mike give us a bad name. You're on the wrong reality show dude - "Jersey Shore" is on MTV! Regardless of whether Mike's in the top two or not, I've been rooting for Richard all season and think he should win. He's a really talented chef with original and creative ideas who cooks damn good food! Team Blais all the way!
Mike shouldn't even be in the finale if only for stealing Richard's idea a few episodes back. Seems like integrity should have some bearing on the contest. A chef who steals ideas from another chef not only shows lack of character, but lack of originality. Bravo to Richard and Antonia for not outing Mike, but the producers could show better judgment -- and should if they expect people to continue tuning in.
I am happy Richard got into the final, i have enjoyed watching him cook through this season, but boo to the judges, i vote Antonio all the way, she was way better than Mike who i must say i want to slap for his over sized ego. I really thought Antonio had it in the bag with the most memorable bite, don't let them get to you Antonio, you keep cooking girl because i think your great! :)
Based on the feedback from everyone at the dining table, Antonia's last bite was more memorable and that was the whole point of that challenge. Antonia you rock and we wish you well. :-)
I totally agree! Based on the feedback from everyone in the dining table, Antonia's last bite was more memorable and that was the whole point of that challenge. Antonia you rock and we wish you well. :-)
I totally agree! Based on the comments of everyone in the dining table, Antonia's last bite was more memorable and that was the whole point of that challenge. Antonia, we like you and wish you all the best!
Time for blind tasting and secret ballots on this show. Sad to see how prejudiced and pre-judging the tasters are, and/or how much pull they and the producers have. Thank goodness if Curtis Stone is coming on board to cut some of this nepotism.
Anyway, last meal:
my friend's fresh crab appetiser my dad's T-bone steak, and french bread out of the oven my aunt's corn on the cob with creamery butter my best friend's death-by-chocolate cake fresh cherries and unsweetened whipped cream a QMP Auslese
Last Supper Menu: Simple pleasures for me!
Fresh green salad with lemon dresssing Fettucinni with fresh shrimp, Alfredo Foccacia Parmesean Gelato
First of all, your personal feelings for a woman you have only the knowledge of from your views on television is enough to make me "Sick", which is the correct spelling. Of all the various thoughts and comments you could have made, yours was one to criticize a contestant that isn't even on the show anymore but to help a contestant that is also no longer on the show. Get a life! I enjoyed her lighthearted, motherly, encouraging personality, but leave up to someone to be a "Debbie Downer" about a positive influence, some people just feel better when they can be critical and harsh. I hope that you are as good at your career as you feel Carla is bad at hers. Get a life lady!
Top Chef Executives, please address the change in voting from 4-3 in favor of Antionia.
This is similar to season one, when Dave won 1 challenge, Harold won 2, and Tiffany none.
It's not all about the chefs, you must consider use fans as well.
KOBE BEEF RIB EYE (if there is such a thing) STEAK, LIME JELLO WITH WHIPPED CREAM, YOGURT, and crushed pineapple and pecans, BREAD PUDDING WITH PECANS AND NO RAISINS, KAHLUA AND REAL CREAM ITALIAN WEDDING CAKE (PECANS not walnuts) from CARLOS’ BAKERY in NJ.
rub-a-dub-dub…thanks for the grub…yeah GOD!!
Why does everyone think that the vote was 4-3 in favor of Antonia? Puck's final vote was never revealed. Watch it again. Why would they have revealed the winner during the discussion phase rather than when the chefs were brought back in. Doesn't make sense from an editing perspective, does it?
Maryland style Crab cakes, Cream of Crab soup, and steamed crabs. Maybe some jumbo steamed shrimp... as only can be had in Baltimore, Md. I agree that Mike is a stinker, so hope the above prediction is correct.. I vote for Richard to win. Who dreams up these contests??? Sadistic, much? :P
I am also disappointed that Antonia didn't win. I believe she did win that final quick bite challenge but they gave it to Michael because of his recent win streak! Antonia could have won Top Chef without a doubt! I'm tired of the judges constantly picking off very talented women chefs! Antonia...good luck to you! You are awesome and setting a great example for your daughter and other women chefs!
I will not watch the last show. I become more and more disappointed with Top Chef every season. Mike....really? He is so arrogant, and in my opinion not the person I would want representing my profession as being the "Top Chef". I will not be watching next week.
As far as Mike not seeming to have the character of a Top Chef, I disagree. I have been in restaurants my whole life; (my father is a chef and my mother a server, and I have worked in restaurants for over 15 years) and Mike definitely resembles all the chefs I have ever known. Most chefs are confident, horny goof-balls. However I have never met one like Blais, so insecure although genius. I truly thought Antonia would have been Top Chef, I literally yelled at my television when she was told to pack her knives. I am very upset to see her get eliminated. The only other elimination I was more upset about was Fabio ( OMG, who doesnt love a man with a sexy accent, who can cook...my perfect man, sooooooooooo sexy). I think it is obviously Blais who wins this season, Mike's been too lucky lately and luck always runs out. Cant wait to see next weeks episode!!!
So glad Richard won and is moving on. I was worried he might self-flagellate himself to death otherwise. Sorry for Antonia, who did way better than I thought she would. Mike just opened his own restaurant here in D.C.--does that mean...?
Next week should be fabulous. And we get to see all our fave and not-so-fave chefs again!
Like 2sassy, I'm extremely disappointed and done with this show. I thoroughly believe these judges are sexist and won't watch anymore. How is Richard still in the competition? Isn't one of the cardinal rules to never undercooked your food? Yet, last week he served undercooked lobster, and he's in the finale. To all the male chefs out there, add a little salt and pepper and you're golden.
That is an absolutely horrible review of the episode. You didn't even mention what Mike's dish was, and I really don't give a darn about you and your personal life with food. I wanted to know what happened on the episode I missed.
yeah what happened top chef producers? the vote said one thing so is it the producers who decided mike was more interesting? and why was tom making all of those faces like he didnt agree with anything that was going on? dale should be here not mike.
Why why why did they bring back Carla? She has to be the most annoying contestant every. Earlier in the day my coworker and me spoke about her being gone for good. I had mentioned if she would ever appear again that I would never watch any Top Chef episodes again so no finally or masters form me. God she ruined her season and now the rest of any future Top Chefs for me.
I was furious when they announced Mike was moving on. When they went around the table the vote was 4-3 in Antonia's favor, oh, but wait, did you see the look on Tom's face? Tom, who voted for Mike? Clearly not a happy camper and lo and behold it turns out someone must have changed their vote so Tom gets his way. No, I will NOT be watching next week or any other season. The only program left on Bravo that is worth watching now is Inside the Actor's Studio.
I thought the EC was a mess. The Season 5 "Last Supper" didn't seem like a reach for any of the cheftestants. But Wolfgang and Morimoto were terrible choices for this because their dishes were so specific to a "fringe" cuisine. A chef can go a career without making sashimi or strudel, but heck *I* can make fried chicken and biscuits. And what about Antonia's rotten hamachi? She didn't shop for it (as in the NYC challenges), so why is she taking the fall for an ingredient gone bad? It probably didn't sway the outcome, but it seemed like another stupid roadblock--fryer on fire anyone--at a time when we'd just like to see these guys cook at their very best.
My last meal -- the steak my mom made with fried onions and mashed potatoes.
Re. the challenge. Am delighted Richard won and is going on. I would have much preferred Antonia progressing, too, as I can't imagine how live would be for those around Mike I who's already a blow-hard and arrogant. And, shamless -- stealing Richard's idea a few quick-fires ago. (Don't care if this is what chef's do in the real world. It's not the real world here, it's a competition and stealing another competitior's work does not engender respect.)
Anyway, Richard goes on and I am certain he's going to win because if you watch the previews for the last show carefully it's indicated. (Don't want to spoil it, and I may be wrong, but I don't think so.)
Richard has all the qualities of a real chef, from innovation, teaching, to being a person want to work with.
Can't wait for next week!
A perfectly cooked whole lobster with plenty of hot butter on the side, Spring mix salad with cherry tomatoes and light dressing, Roasted mixed vegetables and Big slice of lemon meringue pie.
Have never given thought to a last meal... but it would include all the things I don't normally eat... a small piece of grilled steak, some fried onions, some french fries, sauteed spinach with garlic, carrot mousse, tomatoes with a balsamic creme and a molten chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce.
Fan favorites: 20 votes for Antonia, 20 for Carla and 20 for Dale T.
So disappointed, I'm sorry, but Mike (let Mike V dress the duck and oh I'm sorry did I use your idea Richard) hardly seems like someone with the character to be TopChef. I loved Antonia so I am really sad to see her go. I didn't like to see Carla go, but she definitely hadn't preformed her best. This elimination sucked, I don't even care who wins. Why is it that women chefs never seem to make it on TopChef, aside from Stephanie, the last 3 finals have all been men. This didn't seem like the best decision, granted I didn't eat the "bite" but maybe the sum total of what they prepared should have weighed in on the final decision. I know I won't be watching next week.
