Bravotv.com: Let’s break down the challenges.
GS: It was crazy business that gondola, it was really scary-looking and the fact that they had to cook in it was sort of outrageous, but they all did really well. I wasn’t sure they were going to give us anything at the end of 22 minutes, which really goes by in the blink of an eye. And they all gave us good food. Paul’s meat was unevenly cooked and a bit grey, it did not sear the way he wanted. He came in last -- I think it’s the first time he’s lost a challenge. C’mon Paul -- get it together! Lindsay’s dish had the most flavor, and it was very creative. All things considered, if you think about what they were up against, they all produced great food.
I just want to commend the company we found to make us those ice blocks for the ice block challenge. It was so beautiful and so mean all at once. I felt like Cruella de Vil in the challenge mostly because I don’t think the producers realized how hard it was going to be to get the food out of the ice with just those little ice picks. It takes brute strength, which only Paul really has and thank god he helped his fellow cheftestants. Beverly went Silence of the Lambs on her block and she still couldn’t get anything out of it. We all were worried for our lives watching her take to that ice block. Unfortunately Sarah’s soup was broken and not very flavorful. Bev’s seared scallop was not so bad, I was impressed with it. But Paul’s brown butter poached king crab with mango chutney was just beautiful, it was such a great idea. Although the mangoes that he cooked with were still a bit frozen, but it’s not like we were eating raw meat.
This show is totally rigged. I thought so before, but I know it now. EVERYONE was pulling for Beverly but you guys voted her off because you wanted Paul, Lindsay and Sarah in the finale. Which I won't be watching. I'm also going to put this on fb so you guys don't have to post my blog.
I am so disappointed. A Top Chef is supposed to be a leader and Sara is definitely not a leader. A leader is someone who supports and encourages the people around them. Again, Sara does not deserve to be in the final because she does not have the traits to be a leader.... Beverly out cooked her on the other challenges earlier in the show and is by far, a better chef.
I am devastated that BEV lost to SARAH?!?!! Seriously?!?! Tom? Who would you rather be in a kitchen with, that has talent and drive with no complaining?!
Hate to sound like an obvious HW, but 'I'm DONE' with Top Chef! Even though this was the coolest season (no pun intended) all the judges overlooked the cheating by SARAH during the blindfold competition! I am shocked and disappointed by the judges table. DONE...WELL DONE. You go BEV!!!
The challenges the chefs were forced to compete in in this episode were just silly. By this stage in the competition, the focus should be on the cooking skills and the food created not on cross-country skiing and shooting. How many top chefs got to where they are because they could chip frozen food out of ice or ski and shoot?
After watching Beverly come back and gracefully compete with three very intimdated chefs, I have great respect for her as a person and a chef. The other three I have no respect. It was disappointing to know the three remaining competitors do not have the respect to treat Beverly equally as they treated each other. I will not enjoy watching or even be happy for any of the three remaining chefs to win. Nor will I watch or purchase products from further developed product lines. Way-to-go Beverly!
Bev was robbed. If Sarah or Lindsey win I will never watch Bravo again. WHY WHY did those two untalented ill-tempered female members of the canine species make it this far? I knew some of this "reality tv " nonsense is FAKE but really. Paul has to win. If those "judges" have any integrity PAUL WILL WIN.
WHAT HAPPENED FOR ALL OF THE RESPECT FOR THE FOOD, ANIMALS, AND INGREDIENTS THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN PREACHED ON THIS SHOW!!! LIKE MOST THINGS, IT APPEARS TO BE LIP SERVICE! HOW MUCH FOOD WAS WASTED?
THIS WAS NOT ABOUT COOKING. YOU ARE LUCKY NO ONE BROKE A BONE OR WAS STABBED.
This episode was just wrong. Lindsay and Sarah should not have made it into the finals. Hopefully they don't pull a Hosea and steal the win from the most talented chef this season, Paul. Nyesha, Paul, Ed, and maybe Grayson or Beverly should have been the final four. Beverly is a good chef and she cooks to her flavor profile. I'm glad she got as far as she did.
I AM VERY UPSET THAT YOU LET SARAH AND SOME OF THE OTHER WOMEN TO CONTINUOUSLY BULLY BEV AND THEN YOUR PRODUCERS KEPT BEV AROUND TO PROVIDE SOME 'INTEREST'. THEN YOU PUT SARAH AND LINDSAY THROUGH BECAUSE THEY ARE MEBTORED BY TWO OF BRAVO'S TOP CHEF MASTERS CONTESTANTS. I'M SURE YOU WILL SEND PAUL HOME TOO EVEN THOUGH HE AND BEV BROUGHT A UNIQUE SKILL (I.E. ASIAN) TO THE SHOW WHICH EVERYONE ALWAYS LIKED. I THINK THAT SARAH AND LINDSAY ARE BORING CHEFS AND NASTY, JEALOUS AND MEAN WOMEN. YOU AND YOUR PRODUCERS SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!!!
I don't care how you try to justify the decision to send Beverly home. You can spin it 'til you're blue in the face & I'll still think it was a dreadful decison, not only from the culinary standpoint but from that of plain watchability. There is simply no way that I can bring myself to watch the Mean Girls in the finale, especially after the way Sarah behaved in the Final Four: interrupting Bev's answer to Paul's question, accusing Bev of taking her out when she did it to herself by hitting Bev's ski instead of skiing around, whining that Bev had more bullets than she did. What a disgusting display of passive aggression! I won't watch her in the finale, and I won't eat in her restaurant. I will, however, make a point of eating in Bev's. She's got more versatility, more creativity and way the hell more class. You blew it. Oh, and please lose all the gimmicks before next season. They sucked.
Ridiculos challenges. You should be ashame of yourself for being part of something as assinine as these challenges. I thought Top Chef was suppose to be about the food. The producers are turning a once great show into a reality farce. To do so in the final four is hiddious.
I would rather have my fish slightly underseasoned than to have to chew through tough rabbit. Sarah was a mean spirited and poor competitor throughout the season and I am shocked that she made it this far. In my opinion, and everyone elses that I have read or heard on television besides the judges, Beverly had consistently cooked circles around her and withstood her bullying admirably all season. Beverly was plainly the better chef and the better person. The thought of Sarah and Lindsay high fiving each other and crowing over Bev's elimination back in their hotel room makes me quite literally ill. And you know as well as I do that is what happened. They've done it all season so I don't see them changing themselves now. I can see Top Chef losing a few viewers over this one for the season finale. Some of them in my own household. The only reason I will be watching is because Paul is a wonderful chef and he cooks here in Texas, my home state. He has stood out as a Top Chef in a season of mediocrity. I'll be rooting for him and he'll win if there is any justice. But then again... this is Top Chef and justice has nothing to do with final decisions. Hang in there Paul!
SORRY BUT THIS CHALLENGE WAS SOOOOOO RIGGED TO ALLOW SARAH AND LINDSAY WIN - OF COURSE THEIR MENTORS ARE MEMBERS OF BRAVO'S TOP CHEF MASTERS SHOW!!!! SO IT CAN'T HURT TO HAVE THAT KIND OF INFLUENCE. SARAH AND SEVERAL OF THE OTHER WOMEN BEHAVED VERY BADLY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR. I'M SURE THE PRODUCERS OF THE SHOW LOVED THIS. TOP CHEF HAS NOW STOOPED TO A NEW LOW. THE SHOW IS NOW RIGHT UP THERE WITH 'SURVIVORS' WHICH IS REALLY TACKY. I KNOW THAT BY NOW IN REAL TIME THE FINAL WINNER HAS ALREADY BEEN DECIDED AND I WILL PREDICT IT WILL BE EITHER SARAH OR LINDSAY. THIS IS THE WORST SEASON EVER!!!
I don't think the challenges were relivant to what a Chef is. Did you ever have to cook under such conditions? I say put them in the kitchen and let them cook. Too, gimicky this time. Sorry. Sarah nice, please. Look at the series. Sarah is plain mean spirited and what she is is not worth going into. Beverly is a better chef then Sarah. I don't know what you all were thinking.
Top Chef is one of my favorite shows, ever since I started watching, back in Season 3, it has changed my perspective of food and made me appreciate chefs as passionate artists. But this episode was absolutely ridiculous, please, please, please fire whoever came up with the challenges this season. Don't ruin a great thing. Check any forum on this show, and the fans are extremely disgruntled. It's apparent to me that even Gail realizes the outrageousness of the challenges. I hope someone spoke up and we never have to watch such an atrocity again. It's a waste of some truly great talent. Good on the chefs for persevering despite the odds and still managing to put out amazing dishes. They deserve more respect than they're getting with these challenges.
How about giving them an area where food won't freeze on them? They are not athletes. Or is that what you want to put them into next....... Sorry you were all off on this whole situation.
the way beverly was treated by those girls...except grayson...was sad and disinheartining for those chicks who rock girl power and are not intimidated by other chicks that rock. Insecurity was all that came through especially from sarah and lindsay....they are the definition of sad insecure chicks. too bad....
I think Sarah came out of it with an appreciation for Beverly and the knowledge that you cannot underestimate her. Wow, you have really got something to learn about women. Poor Tom...Make all the excuses you want. Sarah is a miserable nasty woman. Now just put the cherry on top and let her win the competition. Then you all can delude yourselves about what a sweetie this woman is.
This season was perhaps the ugliest I've ever watched. Not because the cooking wasn't great or the challenges interesting. I just hated every moment of watching people be mean to Beverly. I mean, it was really vile at times and to have to watch her go home is just a sad day. I was hoping there would at least be a little justice left at the end. Now we have to watch Sarah for another episode. I'm not to fond of Lindsay either, to be honest. Both of them could use a little humble pie. So in the end .. its up to you Paul. I like you as well and was hoping it would be you and Bev. Its up to you to put those two asses in their place. Knock em down, buddy, because I really won't be watching the finale if its Lindsay and Sarah.
At least this episode makes it easy to root for Paul to win since it's him versus two total jerks in the finale.
This episode was just plain stupid! Why did someone not say something to the fool who thought that this would make ofr good viewer TV? Sarah was just as big of a whiner as she has been all season. Beverly DESERVED to be in the finale!! How very disappointing!
HUGE MISTAKE TO HAVE PICKED SARAH. HER DISHES ALWAYS FEEL UN INSPIRING, DULL AND HUMDRUM AND HEDR ATTITUDE IS AWFUL. I KNOW THIS IS NOT BASED ON PERSONALITY BUT AS A "TOP CHEF" YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO GET ALONG WITH MANY DIFF. PERSONALITIES WHICH SHE CANNOT DO. THIS IS ALMOST SAYING YOU CONDONE BULLYING LETTING HER WIN ::SMH::
First comment this season, but I just can't hold it anymore. PLEASE WIN PAUL!!! I do not care to see a 'mean girl' win, and Sarah and Lindsey are mean girls along with their partner in crime Heather.I thought the challenges this week were a little over the top. How safe is it to cook in a gondola? I guess... Anyway, kick butt Paul and Beverly , you are a top chef too!
So what happened to the cool show where top chefs utilize a plethora of interesting ingredients to cook truly elevate cuisine? I tuned into Bravo tonight and found Festivus for the Restuvus there instead. A guy advanced to the finals because he could smash ice better than girls. I watched ten minutes of ice breaking and slapstick antics and 10 seconds of cooking.
I am so very disappointed with this episode. Top Chef has lost it's focus. I turn in to watch great chefs cook and challenge each other in the kitchen. The Olympic challenge tonight was very unfair and annoying. I was bored and felt sorry for both of the ladies. It was just stupid and I am done watching.
Seriously, this is the last Top Chef Episode I will watch. Last time I worked in a kitchen, I do not recall having Chefs chip their ingredients from an ice block, ski and shoot for ingredients. The chef, who had the least strength, could not ski or shoot would naturally be set for failure.
My only suggestion to improve the ending would have been to see the judges chipping their utensils out of an ice block before their food got cold. Incredibly stupid episode design.
Mind sat there and said get up and get out! Go read a book. As Padma often stated, "Top Chef judges, please pack your show and go!"
This is the worst season of top chef. It had gimmicky silly competitions and horrible nasty people. It was painful to watch the lack of humanity and professionalism. Horrible season.
I have watched every season of Top Chef, and I have to say this may be it for me. The show started out about cooking. A competition, yes, but it was about the cooking. I am so tired of the silly "twists" and bizarre challenges that have nothing to do with the food. Cooking on a moving gondola? Cross-country skiing for your ingredients? Really? I'm over it. How about just letting the cooking and the chef's personalities and talents be what the show is about?
So sick of these stupid "survivor" type challenges! Stop the silliness and please let the chefs simply cook in the future. I expect a few minor twists on occasion for quick fire challenges but it has gotten out of control this season. Bev is obviously a good chef like the others but comes off as annoying.
This could be the last season of this show that I watch. I am so over the silly challenges and ridiculous situations that have nothing to do with the cooking or the talents of the chefs. I started watching this show in its first season because it was about extremely talented chefs in competition. Now it's about cooking in a moving gondola, or cross-country skiilng or bicycling for your ingredients. Really? Make it about the food again. Time constraints, limited ingredients, psychological stress of the competition, fine. But I'm so over the cutesy stuff which is irrelevant to the cooking. You are losing me as a viewer.
I am totally over the cutesy competitions which have nothing to do with cooking. I loved the early seasons where the show was about working under time constraints, the psychological stress of competition. Now most challenges are removed from the cooking itself. Cooking in a moving gondola, hacking ingredients out blocks of ice? Really? This is not about skill as a chef, and that's why I watch the show. This could be my last season as a viewer.
This episode is trash. Cooking on a Gondola, food in blocks of ice and having to skate? How about showing less theatrics and more cooking on this COOKING show. This show is getting worse every season.
This was the most ridiculous episode in the season and there was much to call ridiculous this past season.
Since we can't taste the dishes the decisions can't be disputed but it seems safe to say that the food is not really relevant to the show. The drama and petty relationships leave a sour taste so it is probably good we can't taste anything.
One thing I did learn is that I will avoid eating anyplace Sarah or Lindsey are cooking.
While I do understand why Beverly didn't win this challenge, I have to say that I was extremely disappointed to see both Sarah and Lindsay move on. I've watched Top Chef from the beginning, and I have to say that these two women (along with Heather) were particularly vicious to Beverly throughout the season. I actually don't recall a season where a pack of chefs so thoroughly displayed such hyena-like tendencies. And while they may be excellent chefs, I find them so dislikable that if not for Paul, I would likely give the next episode a pass. In fact, if Paul isn't in the final two, I think I will give the finale a pass. I have absolutely zero interest in watching a cook-off between Sarah and Lindsay.
This show has jumped the shark. Worst final four episode ever. I should have stopped watching after the Vegas season. I won't be wasting anymore time on this show.
Tom, Gail, and Padma, if you have any creative controll on this show, please, please don't give us another season with so many challenges that have so little to do with being a chef. The challenges this season have been ridiculous, and quite frankly insulting to the talented chefs you have competing. The contestants this season have rarely had opportunities to really show you what they can do, and the quality of the show has suffered as a result. I came to watch Top Chef, not some weird hybrid of Chopped and Wipe Out.
I have seen every episode of TC. This episode was tedious to watch. Whoever is designing the challenges is overthinking it. Way overthinking it. The whole season has been about physical challenges (considering the heat in Texas) and that's just not what I watch Top Chef for.
Nyesha...she has potential star quality. I'd love to see her come back in some capacity.
I enjoyed LCK itself because I enjoyed seeing more of Tom Colicchio (and solo), period. But somehow having Bev take Ed's place.....maybe if it had been Nyesha I wouldnt have minded so much, but I'd have liked to see Ed stay in and Bev banished for good when she lost the elimination challenge the first time.
Very disappointed in the final three. The only one I'll be rooting for is Paul, the two mean girls have done nothing outstanding in this competition. Hoping next episode they will say just kidding and give Sarah the boot! Her bitch-face doesn't deserve to be in the finale. Team Bev!
Tom, I was so dissappointed that Beverly was asked to pack her knives. . . I have no doubt that Sarah was the one who really should have gotten the boot.
Tom, you are from a different planet. Beverly was a class act. Sarah to the very end acted with no grace or class. Lindsay and Beverly made a connection. Yes mean spirited, bullys, and condescending. What a pair. Class act. Feeling so above everyone. Go ahead and send Paul home and You can have the Pair of Nice Ladies Co-Winners. You are something else when it comes to your choices
This episode was ridiculous. Just let them cook - no one wants to see stupid Olympic-style challenges.
Gail, you're terrific, but I cannot stand these physically abusive challenges that have nothing to do with food. Did you have an armed sharpshooter standing by in case either Sarah or Beverly went ballistic? A ridiculous penultimate finale to a poorly thought-out season.
I'm still angry with the "mean girls" Sarah and Lindsay. These women have been the most unlikable contestants ever. Lindsay is just plain nasty while Sarah cannot conceal her zeal when Beverly is criticized nor her disappointment when Beverly gets complimented. Also, may I say that tonight's challenge of cross country skiing and shooting was really not well thought out. Having these ladies cross country ski when they never have skied before was actually quite dangerous and shooting a target for their food was tacky. Luckily neither of these ladies broke any bones or got seriously injured skiing...they fell pretty hard many times and could have easily been hurt...not so smart Bravo!
It's supposed to be a cooking competition, not a suvival meet or an athletic event. This was the most disappointing "finals" competition I've seen. The food and cooking were secondary to the circus-like atmosphere surrounding the show. Seriously, a biathalon? Talk about jumping the shark.
Uhg...so sad to see Bev go. She is such a fighter! Unfortunately now there's only one more hero left to root for. It adds such sting to see two of the three wicked stepsisters remain. Paul will prevail...not just because he has proven to be the best, but also because he truly deserves the win and has made his way through the competition as a true Top Chef should...with strong character, dignity, humility, and true sportsmanship. I see such immense success in his future and hope that a good guy truly wins!
Am I the only viewer who found this episode ridiculous and probably quite dangerous? I could see one of the chef's stabbing themselves with the ice pick, or perhaps breaking a leg cross-country skiing, and it doesn't take much. What on earth does that actually have to do with their culinary abilities? Perhaps just a chance to humiliate them a little bit.......these young people have come so far; can't they just have a chance to cook without all this truly false and somewhat sickening sense of drama. I didn't think it was good reality TV, I thought it was frightening. I'm disappointed.
Since the Top Chef contestants are now being judged on their cross country skiing and target shooting ability as well as cooking, you really need to add professionalism and basic human decency to the mix. This would disqualify both Sarah and Lindsay immediately. Their bullying of Beverly was upsetting to watch -- hopefully folks will not patronize their restaurants as a result and a lesson will learned -- regardless of who wins this season. I am so dissapointed in Top Chef this season, I will not bother to watch the finale.
