Meet the Real Shelter Dogs of Louisiana… And They’re All Adoptable!

These Big Easy dogs are easy to love.

Thanks to Southern Charm New Orleans, the Big Easy has been on our minds lately. We love watching all the beads, beignets and baffling idioms the city has to offer. The baffling idioms of course come from the 90’s-R&B-turtleneck-clad Jon Moody, who sprinkles his conversations with deep thoughts about the differences between how pigs and chickens look at decision making. Jon may not be our favorite New Orleans resident for long though, as we are about to meet a crop of canine cuties straight from NOLA for today’s Real Shelter Dogs.

Today’s dogs hail from Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO), an organization dedicated to the rescue and aid of abandoned and homeless animals in the New Orleans area, founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. They promote the foster, adoption and reunion of pets with caretakers as well as spaying and neutering all companion animals through their no-kill shelter. The shelter has a plethora of lovable dogs and cats available for adoption. We are sure that upon seeing them, our buddy Jon Moody would have a slightly eccentric expression on hand, something about raining cats and dogs and building the arc and/or the Titanic maybe? (He really has one, guys, we’re not just being facetious.)

And now without further ado, meet your Real Shelter Dogs, complete with opening credits-worthy taglines!

“No botox, just brains and boxer wrinkle for days.” - Trylah

I'm young and athletic, so hopefully my person will be too. I love people and other dogs. I am about 3 years old and am good at walking on a leash, but I am strong and full of energy so I need long walks or frequent playtime at the park. I get along with other dogs and with people of all ages. I am real smart and can even give you a high five if you ask me nicely.

“This bright flower is no shrinking violet!” - Petunia

I'm a short and stubby girl who wants all of my human’s attention on me, so I'll need to be the only animal. I love snuggling, napping, and long car rides while listening to the radio. I am extremely affectionate, gentle, and loving. I enjoy the company of others but also do well on my own.

“When life gives you squeak toys, put nine in a bowl.” - King

I'm a strong and independent boy who loves his people with every ounce of my being. I'm also a toy hoarder. I like long walks and long naps. I walk well on a leash and can be taught new skills with treats :) I would love to find a home where I can spend my days lying on a comfy sofa in the sun and playing fetch in the yard with my new family.

“Some people call me sleepy, but that’s just because I’m so focused on my dreams.” - Cookie

Did someone say bedtime? My favorite thing is a bed or a couch to lounge on. I have dietary restrictions, so we can meal plan together! I hope my future home has a yard or pool because lounging in the sun is my favorite too!

“I’m all about being in shape, first get in my circle, then you’ll have my heart.” - Charlie

I'll give you my entire heart once I get to know you and feel I trust you. I had a rough past so I take a while to adjust, but once I, do I'll give you all my sloppy kisses. I am about 4 years old and love to go for runs, car rides and spend time outside being active.

“Does it look like I'm judging you? It’s because I am.” – Boomer

I am picky about my dog friends, but I love my people. Some would say I have some stranger danger, but I say I'm just protecting my family. I love tennis balls more than life itself and love toys of all types and sizes. I have great manners, I get along well with people (I prefer to pick my own dog friends), and I am completely house trained.
