Last night was the New York premiere of Jerry Seinfeld's "Bee Movie", which Seinfeld wrote and voices with Matthew Broderick, Renee Zellweger, Chris Rock.
They were all there, and so was James Gandolfini, who is not in the movie. They passed out those bee headbands that Oprah was wearing on her show the other day. I held onto mine until the very end of the night, damnit. I am kind of glad I lost mine, what would I have done with them? Oprah, by the way, provides the voice of the judge.
Before the movie, Jerry spoke about how making the film was like the movie "The Wizard of Oz", in which Dreamworks honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg was Oz, the director was the Tin Man, and on and on. It made me think of that great ROLLING STONE cover with the cast of "Seinfeld" as "Wizard" characters (i.e. Julie Louis-Dreyfus was 'Dorothy', remember?).
So Jerry asked the crowd who his wife, cookbook bestseller Jessica, would be from "Wizard"... Jessica screamed out "the Wicked Witch" and Jerry countered that she was "home", as in "there's no place like..." It was all very sweet and the crowd ooh'd and aah'd.
