I am actually quoting The New York freaking Times when I say "Work of Art works." And as I write this I am watching China Chow, Simone duPury, and Bill Powers on my Taxi TV, so that is total immersion.
WOA premieres following tonight's Top Chef Masters finale. The TCM episode features last season's finalists dining on this season's last meal. It's a fun watch.
And I will tell you that Work of Art is a blast. It is an idea we've been kicking around at Bravo for as long as I can remember, and one that the Magical Elves had been obsessed with on their own and concurrently so had Sarah Jessica Parker and her Pretty Matches Productions. The artists are talented, the challenges are fun to watch, the judges are so smart and at the top of their field, China Chow is a dream host (with great clothes) and our mentor Simon de Pury is not only Mr. Credibility but he's a total character!
Art is so subjective, and so it is sometimes a complicated affair judging one work against another. I think the show works, though, because it ignites the discussion and certainly added layers to my thought process surrounding what is "good" and "bad" art. I agreed with the judges tonight, but there are one or two calls coming up that I didn't totally get. That is the beauty of ART!
I am really excited about this one, people... .
And have I mentioned that Countess LuAnn's niece Nicole is one of the competitors? When the Countess heard about the show, she kept telling me what a great artist her Nicole is and that we should have her on. I told the Countess that she needed to try out like everybody else. She did, and Simone and the panel were impressed enough to want to see more. So watch for her! (The Countess does not appear, unfortunately!)
So let me know what you think of Work of Art, and know that it moves to it's regular 10 p.m. timeslot next week following the premiere of Top Chef D.C. (!). And by the way, stay tuned for big news about the NYC reunion later today....
Have a great one.
There is a saying that the artist sits at G0D's right hand. Being past my half century, an artist (facilitator, educator)of human potential, at the crossroads of a generational seriousness/insight/reflection, I sense or detect a new power in and of ART. Just as in my darkest and most grave moments where a good joke touches and sparks the life source, so too does art, in all its unlimited possibilities, awaken hope. The artists have represented theirselves admirably and with surprizing scope. There does however appear to exist a bit of mainstream homogeniety in the characters chosen (casted?) for the show. I think I miss the power of art to express or confront social and political concerns beyond but in the artist while of the world too!I say this even as I realize the many examples that prove me wrong. Here's waiting for the casting call.
Andy - I apologize for posting this on the comment section but I have been unsuccessful in finding where to access the info to the following question. How and when can I tryout for next session of Work of Art?
Is there a next season planned and how do you apply? Yes, I did not quite get how the critics overlooked Miles non use of the required materials and yes I do not consider a screen printed circuit board a requirement, Judith was a the correct choice.
Where can I find full episodes posted? It's making me nutty! I enjoyed episode 1 and missed episode 2 and cannot find it anywhere. I would love to see it before episode 3 this week! Thanks...
Andy, can you do something about the background "music". It really isn't music, but computer generated noise which is supposed to sound like music. It's just overbearing and way way too loud. Couldn't watch the show because of it. there seems to be a current trend of thinking that all shows need to have this god-awful music.
Love work of art...however. The ocd guy who keeps winning is too out there...Jerry Staltz needs help if he thinks the pillow sculpture with butt holes is better than the guy with the computer head. I need to be an art critic when I grow up.
This week the electronic junk art. What where the judges thinking!! The winner did not use any material from junk yard. He silk screened a printed circuit board on a pillow and he won. It was good art but he did not use the junk.
I did't think an art show would work. But I watched it "On Demand", and loved it.
You found some amazing artists, and interesting personalities. It was great to watch them create portraits of each other in such a short period of time.
I told friends to catch it and they had the same reaction - what a refreshing change in reality programming. Thank you!
The show came on at 11pm on the west coast last night, no way I am staying up for that on a work night. Good thing Bravo does 12 reruns every show every week.
I was skeptical about this one as I am an artist & come from a family of artists, but I really enjoyed last night's premier episode! The experts were discerning & the outcome was deserving! However I wanted to become a fan on Facebook but it would'nt 'load'-as well as the Bravo site kept 'blanking' out on me-very frustrating-is there a hacker out there who hates Sarah Jessica???!!!!
?... I've been watching the blogs and Bravo tonight but no announcement about the NYC reunion... What's up with that?
I can't wait to catch the premier of Work of Art. Finally! A show about the struggles and wonders of an artist on the rise. I have one question, "Where can I submit myself for Season 2?"
Its been years since the Colors of the world have caught my eye, but I'm a Poppa now and married to a beautiful wife. I'm 29 years old and I would love to be on Work of Art next season and demonstrate my love and talents in the great field of art.
Please let me know, its a once in a lifetime opportunity. And I'm ready to take it.
There are limits to some things, including my intake of reality shows. But I look forward to watching your new show, "Work of Art" and hope it provides all the entertainment that your other shows do.
Love Sonia's idea about doing a Real Housewives of SF using gay couples. Now that's drama! For now though, it is all about the Real Housewives of NYC reunion. I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!!!
PS - Andy, what do I have to do to get a job working for you? I am a successful businesswomen in my own right but am willing to give it all up if I could get into your inner circle (heck, I would pop the pimples on your back if I had to....not that you have any that is :-)

What about Real Housewives of San Francisco and include gay couples! Would love to watch a bunch of bickering queens, now that would be some great drama!!!!!
Love SJP, her intelligence, motherhood, and grace; BUT who's going to be the nut case that keeps the show alive? Picture Danielle and Kelly meeting at the Art exhibit and one upping each other about who has been treated worse by her cast mates! LOL
Andy, up until the last few weeks, we have seen each Housewife weigh in via blogs...what's up? How come there are a select few who neglect to give their views or side of the story? Seems like that should be required since they are obviously wildly popular and often give the REAL DEAL, not just what we viewers each week!
LOVE the premier of "Work of Art" almost as much as you! You are too cute, Andy. Keep bringing these great shows!
