Andy Cohen reflects on amfAR's Inspiration gala (and the after-party, obvi.)
Tonight is the finale of Top Chef Masters (!) and the premiere of Rocco's Dinner Party. I think you'll like Rocco's show -- it's a fun format that combines fun elements of Top Chef (two competing dinner parties) with elements of design and entertaining, and all with Rocco at the helm. Oh and Rocco wears tight pants in every episode. Last night was the amfAR Inspiration gala at the Museum of Modern Art honoring Michael Kors and James Franco. There was a big fashion show featuring half clad dudes and women in red plastic, then a dinner. Jennifer Hudson performed and tore the roof off the place. I got to introduce Courtney Love, who sang "Under My Thumb", and later, Liza Minelli sang after speaking very well about Dame Elizabeth Taylor.
I sat with the Hugo Boss folks and that group included Lance Bass and Joanna Garcia, who I'd never met but really liked. I plied her with questions about Yankee players (she's married to one) and she obliged.
In the cab ride to the afterparty at Boom Boom Room, my very sweet driver asked me many questions about my white dinner jacket, as he is in the market for one and a white suit as well. He was so sincere in his hunt for the perfect white that I didn't want to steer him wrong. Now how the hell am I going to find out if he succeeded?? I'm pretty sure he's not on Twitter....
The afterthing went quite late. I got out alive at 2 but just barely, as I got sucked into the lure of a few (other) Yankees who were in our booth. What is it about the Yankees and last night? And even though I'm a Cardinal fan, what is it about the Yankees that makes a guy powerless?
