Miami to NYC

Andy Cohen recounts his whirlwind weekend.

Good morning. I'm at Miami Airport hopping on a flight home after an 18-hour jaunt here for last night's Real Housewives of Miami premiere party at Eden Roc. It was a hot, fun night with the ladies. It was clear hanging out with them that everyone in Miami knows these women and they know everybody, so it seems like we did a good job casting. Tonight at 11, I am live in the Clubhouse after the premiere with Lea, Adriana, and Alexia. I believe today's New York Times called Alexia a "post-millenial Charo." Interesting.

A lot has happened since last week. I co-hosted with Hoda Kotb last Friday and it was one of the most fun mornings I can remember. Everyone at TODAY is so freaking nice, and made the whole day so easy. Hoda is the most geniune, great-spirited person you could hope to meet; her energy is infectuous and she made me feel very welcome next to her. It was just fun. Oh, and walking in and seeing Kathie Lee's note in her dressing room made me smile. I really dig her.

That morning, I heard the shocking news that a dear old friend of mine, Perry Moore, had passed away. I had known Perry since his days as a researcher at The Rosie O'Donnell Show in the early '90s, and he and his partner Hunter have been fixtures in my life ever since. Perry was the most open-hearted, energetic, lovely guy you could want to know. We were all so proud of him a few years ago when his book Hero was published.  Perry was a comic book fanatic and channeled his displeasure with the lack of role models for gay kids reading comics into the book, about a gay superhero. Perry was a hero to a lot of gay kids, and to his friends who loved him so much. Everybody is still in shock, and will be for a long time. He was only 39.

Sunday night was a light respite and relief to the heavy-ness around me when I welcomed Phaedra and Kandi to the Clubhouse after Part 2 of the Atlanta Reunion. (Part 2 re-airs tonight at 9;  a lot of you are asking since we sneaked Miami on Sunday night.) The women were so fun and funny. I just giggled my way through the whole show.

I really dig Kandi's latest incarnation of her hair. This is the look that I would stick with if I were her, which I am not so what the hell do I know?  We played Pin the Tail on the Donkey Booty, which might be a new classic.

I also loved our "After Show" because we let our wee studio audience (including Mister Mickey from Paper Magazine and John Hill from The Approval Matrix) line up and ask questions of the Housewives. Check that out, and I'll see you at 11 tonight after the Miami premiere.
