I'm sitting in the TODAY greenroom, exhausted, and still in shock from last night. I was backstage at WWHL chatting with MSNBC's Willie Geist, who was scheduled to go on with Alexis, when word came that the President was making a mystery announcement. When we found out how serious it was, we gave Willie a raincheck to go do what he does best, and we went live on the air.
I am tickled that I did have the 411 for what seems like a lot of people who found out from our show -- of all places! -- that the wicked witch was dead. And I know many of you are a li'l embarrassed about that (so you are tweeting to me), but let it go! It's all good and you won't forget soon where you heard the news. Imagine my surprise at having to chitchat with Alexis whilst the world was awaiting Obama's speech. I would like to thank the President for waiting until we were off the air to speak.... I'm kidding, of course.
It's weird to celebrate someone's death, but there was so much energy and emotion going on last night that you just have to let it be and feel the moment. After the show I headed down to Ground Zero to be a New Yorker, to be an American, and just feel the energy down there. It was electric. Thousands of people spontaneously hurrying to the site to wave flags, spray champagne, and sing every patriotic anthem you can imagine.
I won't ever forget going down to the exact site on the night of September 11, 2001 with papers and soot and stink blowing around in the air and shock prevailing everywhere. So it was weird last night celebrating at such a sad sight, but it was certainly a full circle moment.
The weekend in St. Louis was fantastic. The benefit for COCA on Friday night raised a ton of money and notably sold three sets of two tickets to WWHL for 15 grand a set! I am excited for the St. Louis peeps to come to the Clubhouse. Otherwise it was a great weekend with my family.
OK I have to go figure out what the hell I'm chatting about with the ladies. Tonight is the Met Ball -- I'll tell you about that tomorrow.
OK so really I had to switch over to CNN [ but I was taping WWHL so it was all good] not that I didn't believe you I was so shocked and happy at the same time! Alexis was an interesting interview, can't wait for the reunion!!! Will Jim be at the reunion? Here's the thing, her extensions damn they are so long, how do women keep their head up dragging all that hair around??
What wonderful and descriptive words from you today, Andy. You are such a good person.
I am ashamed to admit I watched the President and all that followed on a channel other than yours ... who'da thunk it?? I admire your trip to Ground Zero to be amongst the people. Unami Man!!
Now ... I'm going to whine just a bit ... do we have to spend 15 thousand dollars to enjoy the glories of seeing you live?? What about us "commoners"?? I donate my pittance to various charities and also do my share of volunteer work ... is that good for a chance at tickets sometime? Don't forget us ...
You 'da best, Andy.
I can't celebrate anyone's death.. he was someone son .. father .. brother .. uncle ..etc. BUT I can and well celebrate THE SOB IS NO LONGER IN POWER AND HAS A HIGHER POWER TO DEAL WITH.
Hi Andy, Just to comment that I found out about Bin Laden's death while I was watching your show last night. What a surprise! Best news ever!! I also live in Miami and wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed watching season 1 of The Real Housewives of Miami. It was entertaining, glamorous, just with the right amount of drama, and yes, I agree with you, mother Elsa was the star of the show! I am looking forward to seeing season 2 of RHWM. Thanks, Vanessa
I would like to thank the Commander in Chief for his courageous decisions that led to the killing of Osama Bin Laden. For all our brave soldiers you get to rejoice for your bravery.
Andy I recorded OC housewives and wwhl I woke up about 1:00 AM and watched oc housewive and then wwhl I could not belive what you were saying about obl killed. So thats how I found out. Then it was CNN, FOX, MSNBC. Thank you
I will not admit this to anyone, but I found out that Osama Bin Laden was dead from the one and only -- ANDY COHEN.
Love your show. I was getting ready to switch on WWHL at 11:00 when I logged onto Facebook and found out about Bin Laden's death. I switched on the news to see if it was actually true. I caught the tailend of WWHL. Not a big fan of Alexis, but I love, love, you that I will watch no matter who your guest is.
Love love love you Andy. I am glad to read your blog because you did mention that it is weird to celebrate someone's death. I was reminded of how horrible I thought the Islamic people were on 9/11 for chanting and celebrating the deaths of our people and then I see our American people doing the same thing about OBL. When you said that it was a full circle moment it makes me feel better somehow. Thanks Andy :)
Forever are you connected in my memory now as I learned of Osama's death from your lips. Dh about died over your comment re: the guest list's factor in the level of drama. Those dinners never turn out well do they?
Andy, Love you and your show but please fix the housewives shows. Anytime there is someone nice they are replaced. I know we all like drama but a whole hour of mean is just getting to be too much and these shows have lost all sense of balance. Even the husbands/boyfriends are getting in on the act now. Seriously it's getting painful to watch and I find myself tuning out more and more. Last night's O.C. dinner party was a train wreck and just about the last straw for me. I like your show because it has a healthy balance and well lets face it you're easy on the eyes. I'd watch you read the phone book :).
I was so impressed with WWHL Andy. I could tell you were affected by what was happening. That's the thing I love about you....you are so REAL!
You Rock Andy!
Love you Andy, but we need to talk. I think you should limit each franchise to two seasons, three tops. These ladies start being recognized, have "fans" and they change completely to the point that they are no longer fun to watch. Add the constant pimping of their products and it becomes really unwatchable. Read the comments on EW if you're not reading the ones that don't get posted on this site. OC and New York are the first ones to evict~!
Hey Andy, love your show! I am trying to find out the song that Betheny was dancing to in Malibu. I want to dance when I hear it! Keep bringing us the best entertainment ever! Bravo is the number one Network as far as I'm concerned.
