Bios

AGE: 34
Bayeté is an artist, photographer, and arts educator living in New York City. He began his career as a photojournalist for the Knight Ridder Newspaper Corporation, and has exhibited with The San Francisco Arts Commission, the Oakland Museum of California, MoMA P.S.1, the New Museum, the Zacheta National Gallery of Art (Warsaw, Poland), and the Goethe Institute (Accra, Ghana), to name a few. His collaborative film with the Cause Collective screened at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. With accolades including FSP/Jerome Fellowship, fellowships and residencies the McColl Center for Visual Art and Can Serrat International Art Center, Bayeté's artistic reach is growing. He has also been involved in public arts projects with organizations like The International Center of Photography, Alternate Roots, and The Laundromat Project. His photographs have been published in numerous books and magazines, such as Dis:Integration: The Splintering of Black America by Eugene Robinson, Posing Beauty by Dr. Deborah Willis, and The Spirit of Family by Al and Tipper Gore.
