The Backyard Envy Crew Encourages Everyone to Do This

Backyard Envy exterior design expert Melissa Brasier says it'll "enhance your quality of living."

Mel's Tips for a Backyard on a Budget

When you think of New York City apartments, beautiful backyards and plant-filled rooftops don’t really come to mind. Having lived in the Big Apple for more than a decade, I can attest that private outdoor space is a rarity in the real estate world — and if you’ve got it, you’re either wildly wealthy or one of those lucky few who were able to find an affordable dwelling that happened to come with a bit of al fresco square footage.

How to Watch

The Backyard Envy crew addressed this exact dilemma that New Yorkers face in a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times and their message was pretty simple: Take advantage of even the smallest bit of outdoor space you can find! “We always encourage our clients to use any outdoor space, whether it be a fire escape or a 10-square-foot Juliet balcony,” said the Manscapers’ in-house construction expert Melissa Brasier. “Any of those spaces can handle a potted plant. Seeing that bit of life and having something to care for really does enhance your quality of living.”

And I couldn’t agree with Melissa more — in my opinion, there’s no problem that some fresh air can’t fix. So, let’s follow the Backyard Envy crew’s advice and climb on out to our fire escape… and be sure to bring a potted plant with us. (Tune in to Backyard Envy on Thursdays at 10/9c!)
