Captain Sandy Yawn: "This Isn't About Me Choosing to Fall in Love with a Woman, This Was About My Heart"
The Below Deck Mediterranean boss shared inspiring words about love.
Since going public as a couple, Captain Sandy Yawn shared that her girlfriend, gospel singer Leah Shafer, has faced shaming from some churches, where representatives have stated she is no longer welcome. But that's not going to stop the Below Deck Mediterranean boss from showing pride in being part of the LGBTQ community.
"Guess what, everyone? I fell in love with a woman, and this isn't about me choosing to fall in love with a woman, this was about my heart," she asserted to Personal Space. "It is not about race, gender, politics, creed, color, black, white, yellow, blue, whatever. It’s not about that; it’s about what your heart's desire is, your soul's destination, and that soul connection. And over the years, that’s been a very difficult thing for me."
Captain Sandy shared that she hasn't traditionally labeled herself: "I have loved men and I have loved women and I don't have a label. I don't want to be in some club. I want to be just another human being walking the planet; all I want to do is love and be loved. And it’s that simple."
And if people don't like it, she's not going to waste time worrying about it.
"Who cares what people think about me? Because guess what? I’ve almost died 12 times in my life. I’m living this one life that I have to fulfill a purpose. That purpose is to do good business with good people for good purpose and to have love. Don’t you want that? I want that, and I fell in love, and I’m so happy. This is my happy dance!"
