Jamie Jason Opens up About Struggling with an Eating Disorder After Below Deck Med
The Below Deck Mediterranean alum details the "ugly battle" that contributed to her weight loss.
Below Deck Mediterranean alum Jamie Jason is opening up about overcoming an eating disorder after her time on the show.
On July 12, Jamie joined former castmate Anastasia Surmuva on her IGTV series "Spill the Rosé." During the virtual video session, Jamie and Anastasia answered questions from fans. It was then that a fan asked Jamie, "How did you lose so much weight after the season?" Jamie revealed, "That is a really heavy conversation to get into."
The Cape Town native shared that she had gained "10-15" pounds while filming. "I constantly drank so much Nesquik, so it was inevitable that I gained that much weight," she explained. She later added that "stress eating" also played a role in her weight gain.
Jamie then detailed the "ugly battle" that contributed to her weight loss. "You see yourself on tv and it gets to you. What is everyone else thinking? You criticize yourself. You tear everything apart. And I had developed a terrible eating disorder," she revealed. "I would analyze everything that I was eating. I would read every damn label — the back of the box, how much calories were in it, how many grams of sugar was in it. And that is not a life to live."
She explained that was how she lost "maybe 50 percent of it" before coming to a realization. "Then, thereafter I was like 'I cannot keep living like this way. It's exhausting. I'm tired.' You go to bed super tired, you're hungry," she said.
Jamie then turned to a healthier path. "I went to the gym, I ate healthy, I adopted a vegan diet at that point. And then, slowly moved back to vegetarian the more I was okay with food," she shared.
Jamie also addressed any fans who might've previously asked about her weight loss. "If you have asked me and I have not answered your question, please know I might've not been in the right place to answer that truthfully," she explained.
"It's something I don't ever want anyone to get into. There is not a girl on this planet that I would ever want to see do that," she shared.
