Kyle Viljoen Says One “Very Odd” Detail About the Yacht Made His Job Extra Tough
There was one aspect of the motor yacht Home that the Below Deck Mediterranean stew was totally not expecting.
On the July 11 episode of Below Deck Mediterranean, Captain Sandy Yawn raved about her crew’s new yacht for the charter season. “The cool thing about motor yacht Home, it’s a hybrid... It’s really futuristic looking,” she said. “Everything’s white, stainless, ultra-modern.”
While all of that may be true (see for yourself in the video above), stew Kyle Viljoen has mixed feelings about the vessel. “Well, for starters, it’s really such a pristine yacht,” Kyle told BravoTV.com last month. “Throughout my career, I’ve always worked on modern vessels... and preferably, because they started to cater a lot more [to] the crew space.” However, he explained, “In this case it was very odd, because on this boat, we have the smallest galley pantry for the stews that I’ve ever been on. Especially on this size vessel.”
“It is literally not even half a room. I would say a quarter of a room,” he continued. “So space is really to the minimum, and when you start piling up [dishes and glasses], it becomes an unsafe environment, and it’s difficult to maintain.”
Although Kyle said the lack of space presented “one of the biggest challenges for [the] interior crew,” he explained that hybrids are “where we want to go in the future” of the yachting industry. “Yachting is a luxury. But most yachts are also very [much] pollutants,” he noted.
Like Sandy, Kyle is a fan of the yacht’s sleek look. “I’m just glad they’re bringing in some modern aesthetic,” he said. “Because this is the fresh face that Below Deck Mediterranean needs.”
