The Daily Dish Below Deck Mediterranean

Tumi Mhlongo & Captain Sandy Yawn Have Some Strong Feelings About Below Deck Med Yacht, Mustique

The Below Deck Mediterranean chief stew and captain each had a surprising reaction to the Season 8 yacht.

By Cynthia Robinson

"Wow, like, I'm the chief stew on this big boat...it's crazy!" Tumi Mhlongo exclaimed during her arrival on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8, Episode 2 which aired on October 2.

After meeting Captain Sandy Yawn, Tumi then met up with Natalya Scudder, who was helming the ship (quite literally) while Tumi was absent over a visa issue. While Natalya was giving Tumi the lay of the land, it turned out the new chief stew wasn't exactly impressed with the setup, as you can revisit in the clip above.

"So, what do you think of the boat?" Natalya asked during the episode. "It's interesting, it's cute, it reminds me of Harry Potter," Tumi responded, seemingly speaking about the boat's blue-and-yellow decor aesthetic and dark wood paneling.

During a recent interview with BravoTV.com, Tumi explained more about why she had the reaction to the boat she did. "Well the thing is, Mustique is actually the same size as my first boat, so I kind of had to tap into the early days, and so it wasn't something that I wasn't necessarily familiar with," she said. "I would have loved two stews, but it was a challenge, but it wasn't too difficult, to be honest. I wasn't not familiar with it."

Tumi wasn't the only one who had some thoughts about the Season 8 yacht. During the Season 8 premiere episode as Captain Sandy got her own lay of the land, she revealed in a confessional how the boat was different than her last venture.

"This season it's completely different," Captain Sandy shared during the episode. "Stepping on Mustique at 989 gross tons after coming off Home [at 494 gross tons] is a huge adjustment for me. It's a commercial-built vessel. It's solid, it's steel, it's heavy. And it's a full displacement, massive yacht...we're in a whole different ball game now."
