See Chanel’s Wanderlust-Inspiring Fashion Show in Cuba

The destination show trend is en fuego — and so's the island nation.

Cuba's currently one of the buzziest countries for tourism — what with private jet travel, more celebs and luxury stays, and the historic return of a U.S. cruise shipAnd as the trend of destination fashion shows is on the rise — think Louis Vuitton celebrating its resort collection in Palm Springs last year, and Dior's 2016 cruise show in the Côte d'Azur— it was only a matter of time before a major show hit the island destination.

Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld has been taking the shows abroad for 10 years now — and his latest event in Cuba yesterday brought big industry names to the island... and gave us a glimpse inside the once closed-off nation.

The invite itself for the fashion elite carried old-world charm.

We saw models having an "amazing" time — wearing plenty of fantastically decorated Panama hats. (We'll take all those totally essential packing accessories, por favor).

If the idea for this cruise collection was to capture and display the aura of the people and the place, those classic cars made the perfect backdrop for resortwear.

We saw how a world-class wanderluster with French flair would dress for the high-class tropics — pearls for days and socks with sandals, apparently!

And we should all think of any paseo like a runway — there were plenty of intricately embroidered and crocheted white maxi dresses that lit up Instagram.

Gisele Bundchen looks like she had absolutely no FOMO skipping out on the Met Gala, and we're drooling with travel envy over her tres chic vacation photos in Cuba, pre- and post-show.

By the way, if you're looking for travel photography inspo, Lagerfeld is also exhibiting 200 photographs titled "Obra en Procesco (Work in Progress)" showcasing fashion, architecture, and landscape until May 12 at Factoria Habana. As if he hadn't already made us want to head to old-is-new Havana!
