Below Deck's Chef Rachel Explains Exactly What's in an "Eggs Halifax" Order
After a guest's breakfast order left many viewers puzzled, chef Rachel Hargrove detailed the contents of the meal.
On Below Deck's December 7 episode, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it breakfast order left viewers searching for answers.
During the charter guests' final breakfast on the episode, several members of the group ordered egg-based dishes including "two eggs over medium" and "two eggs over hard." However, after one guest nonchalantly requested "eggs Halifax," viewers wasted no time taking the internet by storm. There were Google searches. There were Reddit threads. There were so. many. tweets.
Finally, one Twitter user went to chef Rachel Hargrove directly to ask, "what the hell is eggs halifax?" and the chef quickly explained, "[it's] Benny with Smoked salmon" (as in, eggs Benedict with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon or ham).
The dish, seemingly similar to one known as "eggs Royale," was one of the last Rachel would make on the yacht before she abruptly quit on the show's December 14 episode. The shocking moment came during a preference sheet meeting in which Captain Lee Rosbach read off an extensive list of culinary requests from upcoming charter guests including "authentic New Orleans cuisine" and "an elaborate 10-course dinner."
"That preference sheet was over-the top," Captain Lee recalled during an episode of the Below Deck After Show. "There's no two ways about it. When somebody sits there and tells me they want their quail eggs at 160 degrees, that's over the line."
