Watch out, high society philanthropists! There’s a much younger woman on the charity circuit.
Meet Hannah Okel, a Wisconsin native responsible for a major giving campaign that’s already on its way to going viral. Have we mentioned that she’s 9 years old?
Hannah is a VIT—veterinarian in training—and pet parent to Scout the dog. While most of her peers rack up birthday wishlists that span from video games to headbands, Hannah has only one ask for her big 1-0: donations to the mighty worthy Bow Wow Buddies Foundation.
The 501(c)(3) foundation is devoted to making life better for our furriest family members—specifically, those who are sick or injured, and come from families that can’t afford the mounting vet bills. As their site puts it, they’re “lending a paw to dogs in need,” and thanks to Hannah, many more dogs across the country will be able to access grants to help them become their best selves.
Hannah hits double digits on February 18th, which means you have just under two weeks to join in on the double-dose of goodness: encouraging a selfless tween to continue following her dream AND help dogs in need.
What’s more, Camp Bow Wow Waukesha, Hannah’s local pet care company that spawned this charity, will be matching donations, so even if you can give the equivalent of a latte, they’ll double down on your gift and make it more substantial.
“I chose this because if Scout needed surgery and we didn’t have enough money to pay for it, I would be sad,” said Hannah. “So, I am putting my feet in other people’s shoes, and want to help those who can’t pay for their animal’s surgery.” Spoken like a true giver—and the kind of friend to animals that deserves many, many doggy kisses and wagging tails.
Click here to donate and don’t forget to include note “Hannah’s Birthday – CBW Waukesha” in the special note section so they can be sure to match your gift.
