Aaaaaahhh! 5 Chilled-Out Places to Unwind and Feel Good

Find your good place at one of these diverse retreats.

By Alesandra Dubin

In NBC's new show The Good Place, airing Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c, Kristen Bell plays a flawed human trying to find her way in an afterlife filled with saints. Even though she was supposed to go to the Bad Place because of the type of life she lived, she mistakenly ends up in the Good Place, where co-star Ted Danson helps her navigate. Smart comedy ensues.

While we're pumped about the show, we're glad we don't have to wait until the afterlife to enjoy all the good places way closer to home. Here are five sublime good places to relax, regroup, and get happy right here on earth.

1. Sanctuary on Camelback, Arizona

Scottsdale's 53-acre Sanctuary resort is a soothing place to detox, and a perfect launch pad for desert activities like hiking, horseback riding, and Jeep tours. On the property is a sanctuary within a sanctuary: The Spa House is a residence with private bedrooms, its own pool, treatment rooms, and fitness space.

2. Parker Palm Springs, California

Palm Springs gets ever chicer by the year, but the Parker Palm Springs remains one of the city's epicenters of casual chic. For the ultimate in posh pampering the low-key way, grab a friend and book the two-bedroom Gene Autry residence. Paradise amid the palms and bougainvillea. Now where's that good long book you've been meaning to savor poolside?

3. Montage Beverly Hills, California

Los Angeles is full of posh properties, but there is no better day spa in the city than at the Montage Beverly Hills. Done in traditional Spanish Colonial Revival style architecture, the 20,000-square-foot urban spa is uber luxe, and includes a stunning co-ed mineral pool — a very good place for relaxing with your honey.

4. Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, California

Just nearby is the Four Seasons, where you might find your good place in a surprising location: the hotel's helipad! Formerly off limits, the platform with panoramic views now offers helipad yoga for zen experiences among the city hustle and bustle. Or, maybe you'll find your calm over a glass of wine — and a celebrity sighting — at the sublime restaurant Culina, Modern Italian.

5. Four Seasons Oahu, Hawaii

The new Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina has good places at every turn: Find your zen among the 35,000-square-foot spa, a golf club designed by Ted Robinson with 18-hole course, and enormous rooms. And that's before even mentioning the world-class beach!
