Adele confirmed what her fans have suspected for some time— that she’s actually married to her long-term partner Simon Konecki.
While accepting the Grammy Award for album of the year for “25” on Sunday night, the singer first gushed over fellow nominee Beyoncé, then turned to Simon, who was standing for her.
“Grammys, I appreciate it, the Academy, I love you, my manager, my husband and my son – you’re the only reason I do it.”
But later, in the press room backstage, while Adele, 28, answered questions, she referred to him as her “partner,” and wouldn’t confirm to reporters if in fact the two had tied the knot.
The couple share a son, Angelo, 4, together. Simon, 42, first met the singer in 2011 but they kept it under wraps until she became pregnant in 2012. Over the years, Adele has been spotted wearing a band on her left ring finger, but has never confirmed what the meaning of it is.
She’s opened up about Simon, calling him perfect to Vanity Fair.
“I have no desire to be with anyone in show business because we all have egos,” she said earlier this year. “He’s not threatened by any stage of my life that I’m going for, and that’s an amazing thing. It’s the most serious relationship I’ve ever been in.”
The “Hello” singer also gushed over Beyoncé, who mouthed “I love you” in return.
“I can't possibly accept this award,” Adele said. “And I'm very humbled and I'm very grateful and gracious, but my artist of my life is Beyoncé and this album to me, the 'Lemonade' album, was just so monumental, Beyoncé. It was so monumental and so well thought out and so beautiful and soul-baring, and we all got to see another side to you that you don't always let us see, and we appreciate that. And all us artists here adore you. You are our light!”
One person who got knocked by Adele last night? Her father.
She revealed a lot that she usually keep private when she admitted to not loving her father Marc Evans, who abandoned her when she was 3-years-old. In her Record of the Year speech she said:
“Thank you to my manager because the comeback, as it were, was completely masterminded by him. And you executed it incredibly, and I owe you everything. We’ve been together for 10 years, and I love you like you’re my dad.”
Then pointed out, “I love you so, so much. I don’t love my dad, that’s the thing. That doesn’t mean a lot. I love you like I would love my dad.”
